  1. Ok, back on topic... That's actually the complete opposite of procedural generation. Procedural generation uses... procedures... math and algos to generate the terrain. Pulling DEM data and satellite imagery is the opposite of procedural. The current DCS maps are created the same way, with DEM data, satellite imagery, and then In the case of the Caucasus map, used a limited palette of of card-board cutout buildings to fill in where towns should. The only difference I can imagine is those structures are potentially hand placed vs dynamically generated, but is no more accurate than the "generic textures and objects" of other sims. In some of the newer maps, tere aren't as many generic, albeit they aren't as generic as you might think in FS and the videos Wu70 posted. You do realize most of the major populous centers have been 3D mapped by community on google maps at this point, ya?
  2. I'll take bigger maps with more detail please. Why would I want bigger maps with less detail? Is this based on your personal coding abilities, pessimism, or what? As Wu70 has showcased, and most of us who are either devs and/or dabble with other products/latest methods, it's not that far reaching of an ask. Anyway, this is a wishlist, no need to filter based on your own perceived limits of practicality or ability, unless you believe you're an expert in the field and it applies.
  3. His opinion of small and ugly doesn't change the ask, which is what the replies here should be based on. Your reply adds no value is what I'm saying, but if it makes you feel better, please... continue.
  4. Slightly off topic, but can I ask a potentially ignorant/stupid question here? I'm just wondering, is the DCS engine treating VR in any special manner (other than just driving two offset viewports)? I don't own VR, and from a programming point of view (with the exception of driving two virwports and the extra code for tracking input) I fail to understand why it would. Reason I ask is, I can understand that the VR community is more susceptible to performance issues given the resolutions your trying to drive, and things like micro stutters might be more noticable to you with the immersion level etc, but in almost every performance thread I've read where the OP calls out VR, the entire community, VR or not is impacted and the fixes, solutions can apply to all.
  5. Not really, relative to some other products on the market, one could argue they are small and ugly. There are currently good technical reasons they are the way they are. The question is, what's the point of your post? The guy has a dream and posted it, and I'd find it hard to believe no one here would want it, regardless of the likelihood we'll ever see it. Mods need to really start filtering this garbage out, that's why the community is where it's at currently.
  6. There's at least 5 threads on this currently. For starters... https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=238815&highlight=F10+precise+decimal https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=266035 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=263781&highlight=F%2Fa-18c+precise Mostly related to JDAM, but the inaccuracies described there relate to JSOW as well. Basically, are you using precise mode and entering extended HMS.ddd or Hours/Minutes/thousanths of seconds decimal as your coords? Are you taking the coords from TGP and not taking slant angle into account (locking ground under vehicle, not the vehicle itself)? Then there is the general inaccuracy of the weapon itself (about 3 meters according to wikipedia)... Lastly, yeah, we're waiting on updates...
  7. OMG the political correctness of today's society makes me sick. Bad PR? Someone sitting at home playing a new DCS title and not going out could technically literally save a life. While people are busy building a home cockpit out of their excess toiletpaper, might as we give them something to fly in it. Edit: Regardless of how you feel toward the situation, countless peeps are stuck at home, either forced, suggested, scared or otherwise, again regardless of personal feelings towards it, it is a reality. In such a circumstance, I would imagine sales would naturally go up because of the situation, people looking for something to do and all. Offering a discount during this time likely wouldn't increase sales, it would be offering relief to folks in that situation. How on earth could that leave a bad taste!? If you think simply throwing things on sale magically increases revenues and profits, you've lost your mind, might as well permanently leave things on sale. I guess if manufacturers of masks and TP offered a discount at the moment, that would leave a bad taste in your mouth as well? Unreal.
  8. 150 kts for 1 min at the end of a sortie is reason enough to bail on it ? lol This is why most MP servers are worries of the likes of you... bunch of peeps trying to land on a boat, 50% doing it right, 50% doing it "wrong", either way, bad things will happen... ripping downwind, landing straight it, whatever... it will be chaos. That's why this community is so split. Neither side is right or wrong, they are just looking to get different things out of the sim. Bring those two groups to the same party... not a great idea.
  9. I also find the A-10 is far more accurate when dropping GBU-31/38s. I wonder, if this issue due to the fact that the TGP is calculating the slant angle, and therefore at longer distances, is providing a coordinate behind the tank (which can be solved by lasing the target, which is not modeled in F-18 yet?) In the A-10 i'm generally at 15k ft, 10nm out, F-18, much higher and further out, leading to the calculated co-ordinate being behind the target. (see my amazing diagram attached...)
  10. Yep, a lot of things have to start going right for the proper procedure to work smoothly. I found after lots of practice that, by properly achieving 250kts during the break-turn, and deploying full flaps while I'm still almost completely horizontal, the "balloon" is obviously diminished and I roll out and trim without too much issue. If I roll out and then hit full flaps, ya... hold on to your hats, she's gonna balloon. Make sure you're dumping throttle on entry to the break turn to ensure you're hitting 250 maybe 3/4 into your turn. @victorlima01, curious to know if this makes sense, I'm not familiar with the documented proc.
  11. I can't believe we can't give flags a name...
  12. I'll post a track next time I'm up. Last mission the targets were in fairly open terrain, but at about 275ft and at 700 HOF they just hit the turf, at 1000 HOF, they opened about what looked like 200ft off the deck, like maybe 7 seconds of parachute action.
  13. In 2.5.6. I was obscured for some time in my orbit,.and it was bang on, and again, happens when the target is well hidden by trees, it maintains perfect lock although I have absolutely no view of the target.
  14. If you get a point lock on a target with the TGP, and they drive in a forest for example and are completely obscured, the point lock remains. I've noticed even when I get INR-P for awhile, the target is also still locked and shouldn't be.
  15. I don't disagree that's how it "should" work, which is why I began my sentence that way, but it game, I believe its baro. The fuze is a doppler radar proximity sensor, so yes it "should" be AGL. But when deploying in mountainous terrain, I definitely need to bump the HOF or they run into the ground. Either I'm missing something or it's a bug.
  16. On a similar note, anyone know if there is a way to change the default brt/con of the MFDs? It is a bit bothersome tweaking it before every flight.
  17. Like I said, that may in itself might be the issue, many peeps including myself felt a need to adjust it with the lighting changes in the latest patch. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=264248 The good news is, it's possible to adjust gamma while in flight. I angled my view so the TGP and cockpit controls below it were still visible when I brought up the options menu, and adjusted it that way until it felt right. I think I ended up dropping down to 1.8, but the number will be dependent on your monitor, etc, which is why its tweakable in the first place. Long story short, gamma will have a big impact on that white TGP screen.
  18. I'm not sure what to say mate, I'm on vacation and can't test anything but I'm fairly certain with the playtime I had before leaving, brightness 15, contrast 31 is what I used and I needed to tweak it in both 2.5.5 a d 2.5.6 every flight. Day and night btw, because it's not obvious, just store two different configs with night being aboit 50% IIRC, day is 32/31/64 and night is 15/31/32 brightness/contrast/symbology. I don't mean it dims 50%, they are separate configs, so adjust day to whatever, switch to night, it will be 15/31/32, not 50% of your day setting. Many of the comments floating around in other threads relate to most folks needing to adjust their gamma setting because of the lighting update. I too tweaked by gamma after the update, which is perhaps why I don't notice a difference because I used that to normalize the overall lighting. Perhaps your gamma needs tweaking or inadvertantly got reset after update.
  19. That adds more color to the situation, I kinda get it but, IRL pilot as well (PPL) and can't imagine some basket case bothering me with a flashlight in their backyard unless they were standing on the threshold, which is why I asked how many lumens that bad boy of a flashlight is. Shine a typical flashlight on a surface 100ft away it's pretty diminishing returns. I guess a backyard BBQ dance with a strobe light and kids with glowsticks are a local bylaw in the surrounding region as well?? I'm sorry but, the more I read this story, I can't get the meme "Knock knock mother....r, freedom is here" out of my head. The money spent on prosecuting and incarcerating an old lady with a flashlight. Are the Americans that short on real estate that it's not just the wildlife being displaced? The real crime here is poor zoning.
  20. Without understanding issue, I'll take a stab in the dark. In a recent update, they changed the default from add waypoint to edit waypoint. So if you want to add a route, you need to click the "Add" button, located right above waypoint actions on the far right and then click the map to place them.
  21. I haven't noticed anything new, even in 2.5.5, first thing I did after startup was brightness 10 on the left and brightness 15-20 on the right, contrast 31, and those figures still work well in 2.5.6 for me. Are you sure both default screenshots are in the same day/night setting for the MFD?
  22. This YouTube channel does a great job at explaining the basics: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCERjcJzbzHmoBVPJpqn9RjQ
  23. Regardless of what it should it, I believe its barometric. I generally use 700 HOF on CBU-97/105- in A-10C, and if I don't increase the height when going into terrain they just smash onto the ground before opening.
  24. +1 The Navy should be outright embarrassed that a simple flashlight could cause such interference. The article seems to go back and forth between "flashlight" and "laser"... laser I can get, but flashlight? How many lumens is that bad boy!?
