NOW AVAILABLE: Community A-4E-C Mod

Select the scooter in roles, click fly, then Escape, Select Role, Back to Spectator, then back to the plane. The Scooter is one of the A-4's many nicknames. -
Wait....seriously!!!???!!! The HUD doesn't show airspeed????

There is a game mode for most modules. Not sure about the F-14, but you could go play one of those if you'd like. -

Why are the f14 instrument clusters so poorly designed?
Tirak replied to lancerr's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I've been flying the Community A-4E for the past few months, so when I started flying the F-14, things were pretty easy to transition into, especially with being able to just ignore the HUD. It's nice to have the descent rate shown on the HUD during landing, but I've got no worries about putting her down on deck without the HUD at all because of all the practice I did with the Scooter. -
The Tomcat's hud has a fairly low refresh rate for some items, so yes it's supposed to be juttery. Things like the guncross are updated much more frequently and operate much more smoothly.

There isn't yet, but HB says they will be including the option. -
This for sure. I've got a buddy who refused to touch any DCS plane, but when the Tomcat got announced and he heard he could be a RIO, he was psyched. Bugs me to play all the time now, it's great to expand the hobby XD.

The Tomcat has around 300~370lbs of captive fuel that can't be used.

If you're on the Stable release then that's an ED problem. It has been fixed on the Open Beta branch but hasn't shown up on stable yet. -
With no Chuck's Guide, please recommend best material to read on F-14

Most folks are plug and play players. So the map is part of the already set up infrastructure of just plug and play for them. For the Skyhawk they've got to go to be aware enough of the community to know it exists, go to a separate download, then place it properly, and then go to play on servers without an integrity check. While that's really not as much effort as it sounds, and it doesn't even sound like a lot of effort, it's a process unfamiliar to folks who don't play lots of mods. I think we sometimes forget that modded playthroughs aren't actually the norm. While much more common on PC because of the history of modding, an entire generation of PC gamers comes from a console childhood and so the idea that you can alter your game to suit whatever you desire is foreign to them. A couple of months ago I had a conversation with someone who could not possibly understand modding as anything other than cheating, it was bizzare to say the least. With that said, and at the risk of starting to talk about things I don't really know about, there's also the IC problem, since you can't run a server with a Skyhawk, as far as I know, that opens you up to cheating of all kinds, and most server admins would rather not bother with that headache at all. It would be nice if ED set up a system wherein files could be added to the IC, so servers could run a 'server sanctioned' Skyhawk, that would take pressure off them from that front at least. -

The issue with Skyhawks in multiplayer is that anyone who does not have the A-4E-C will be unable to join the server. Most servers would prefer not to place a barrier to entry for new pilots to join and fly with them. -
My first attempt, and my second landing in general in the Tomcat. Sadly I was too elated with the landing to check which wire I snagged. sr5CjH3k7XA?t=10320

During setup you've pushed the wing sweep lever all the way forward, then pushed it in, closed the cover, set auto and pressed the reset? Then once in flight you've made sure not to bump the manual switch?

Do you have more than one DCS folder in your Saved Games folder? If you're on the beta branch it should be something like dcsworldbeta. If so, try placing it in there. -
Using lantrin when playing in pilot seat only?

Any chance of making the LANTIRN controllable from the front cockpit? -

The backwards roll is intentional, that's why the wheel chocks were added in. -

It's very interesting you say that, as I've run into similar lateral accuracy problems with the Mk82, but I've just assumed I had a bad lineup because I've had drops that go exactly where i aim them for. Have you noticed this behavior with both slicks and snakeeyes or just one or the other? Which pylons were you using? -
You see funny you should mention that because LN just announced they were doing the F-8 Crusader.

That is the Community A-4E mod. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=224989 Gyro was a coder for the mod before he graduated to Heatblur.

The RIO pit is done and has been shown in several videos. Ralfi just did a startup vid from the backseat as well.

@Nealius- I don't believe the AWRS update is on the current live version, however it does work in the current developer alpha with the AWRS correctly limiting drop numbers. @assafm25- As to when it will release? No idea. However things to look forward to in it is a completely overhauled Carrier Catapult Takeoff system, functioning audible RWR (with THREAT light on the dash that illuminates when fired on), various model improvements mainly around the ECM control panel on the glare guard, fixed interior lights, Shrike lock tones, fixed AWRS behavior, chocks, overhauled damage model and more... -

Alpha Version =/= Release Version, I'm part of a squadron that likes to help test the dev builds they release. -

Well in the current alpha version the Shrike Lock tone works and is amazing at improving your accuracy with Shrikes within weapon parameters, and the simple RWR is working very well, though you'll have to get used to the base tone that plays continuously and the threat light works well too. The more advanced RWR is working in testing, but is still a while away from being a useful player aid.
