In 1v1 BVR, the eagle should have some form of advantage over most other fighters. It is what it was designed for. The mig29 on the other hand is much more agile at high angles of attack and getting the speed back after high alpha bleeding manoeuvres. Not only 120 and ET will change in FC2, but also other missiles. I can tell you Su27 is not useless in bvr in Fc2. Also afaik the switching between different lock types in mig29 and su27 is modelled after the real aircraft systems and combat manuals. If you want to bring that up talk to ED.

I think we are talking about different things here Borchi. You are talking about missile performance in the game. What I have quoted is the range of the missiles in real life, that is what the graphs show. ET in the game right now maybe has 40% less range than ER, when I'm guessing it should be more like 10% less. In fact the ET has been given a lot of extra drag in the game compared to the ER. If you want the reasons, you will need to ask ED, as I cannot speak for ED. For example, here is engagement range of RVV-AE ( the R77 that lockon tries to model ) There is no other R77 in service today, I qoute Chizh on that.

Jag tycker vi ska fixa ett team Scandinavia och utmana lite vanliga squads ;)

Sorry if I misunderstand your posts here, but as from what I can tell you say you have simulated the missiles yourself based on some data? I dont know what exact stuff you are using but the actual maximum engagement ranges at different altitudes and closures of these missiles have actually been posted by ED in the russian forums, so there is no need for this ;) There is no need to approximate the missile ranges with your own, as this data is already out. Btw what simulation software have you used, or did you write your own. What data sources for drag etc and flight models have you used. Here is Aim120 A : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=816680&postcount=2455 Here is R27ER : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=816710&postcount=2467 Ranges stated "75" is not range flown above ground, it is range to target when missile is fired. Range covered over ground should be much less. Also there is no datalink on the R27ET, so it wont help you if maddogged. Also 2-3 degrees are FOV, not search limits, there is no known data on search algorithms when not having a target. You could be looking at the completely different place. Third, do you know if the IR missiles of these type have any intertial stabilization to begin with? Otherwise a maddog can just make a 180 turn and do nothing if it isnt stable ;) I agree with you that ET should not have much shorter range than ER in terms of kinematics. I have also ran tests on this and the nose shape is not a huge factor. Maybe 5-10% range difference from what I've seen. However ED may have better data than that. I recommend running translate.google.com on that thread in russion forums, as many questions are answered here by ED developers. Or maybe you know Russian ( I dont :) )

There should be some pictures available online of the sperry MPCD ( is that the right name? ) and the datalink connected. However it shows a lot more features than Leavu has at this point, and because of the lack of information I chose implementing something more available, like the dlink setup and display on the MLU1 and MLU2 of F16s. These are reasonable old aircraft, and I could show you their manuals and that of other aircraft. There are also some bits and pieces from manuals from F15Cs, dated 1989. You do not need to go to a Superhornet, older F18s have datalink as well, positioning, datapoints, radar targets etc, datalinked, just like the F16. Did you for example know that you could target step to datalinked contacts on the older aircraft ;). These things are far more than my datalink will do and this is no Super Hornet ;). My sources for my claims above are manuals, pilots, one F15 crew chief and one F15 avionics specialist, not to mention other documents bringing these things up.

Nobody is stopping you from flying such things, but you're hardly using a diplomatic approach by trying to make fun of others. And that is just one out many things on a long list. Still, nobody is stopping you from running a "clean" server without any mods, but let's be honest here, some of us do not agree with the game being "fair" by default, nor that it has to be. Again, nobody stopping you from playing your kind of game.

What are you talking about. LEAVU is software for generating any external instruments. If you talk about one of the LEAVU instruments currently developed, the MFD, it is not meant to 1:1 replicate any particular aircraft. If any it is a mix of F18, F16 MLU 1-2 and the C eagle dated as GG said. It uses very old school datalink and other information. Targeting datalinks have been available for USAF in some planes since 60s, so how difficult is it to believe they exist in todays planes :P.
-
Well T, nobody said imrovements were for the F15 only. Some seem to believe that FC2 is some kind of F15 only upgrade, while nothing could be further from the truth.
-
Leavu just got an fps and synchronization upgrade! Leavu instruments can now run at the same smoothness and rate as those ingame :).

It is as GG says, but a little clarification. The physics models are not changed, but some of the numbers may be tweaked a little. However there are no astronomical changes.

Thrustmaster MFD Availability

DCS already implements shared memory for exporting displays ( and even mirrors ) You can do it in Black Shark already afaik. Raw switch data etc must be exported through lua though. -
Looks like im running into this problem here : http://lists.apple.com/archives/mac-opengl/2007/Nov/msg00102.html UPDATE: no it was something much simpler :). I got help on JOGL forums...I had forgotten to give the normal vector for my text, doh, Now it works !!
-
thanks but ive already checked 21.030. I do have lighting, it's just t hat it is .....strange for the textures...... My geometry is shaded just fine. The problem I'm having is this : http://www.javagaming.org/index.php/topic,21809.msg179280.html#msg179280 if you have any ideas on how to set it up for the text to be shaded properly I'd be very happy :). Also with textures comes the problem of having to draw one. I know I could not make one very easily, I'm absolute crap at drawing things. The ADI looks fairly decent but it is becuase i have not drawn anything, I just programmed the 3d geometry ;)

Leavu is open source, so even if you downloaded a version without datalink they could just go in and change one parameter and bling it works again. Also the server cannot control it because the datalink has really nothing to do with lockon. In fact LEAVU is intended to eventually work with any sim, so tying such things to lockon would be counter productive. ( But I think it's not even possible to tie it to any specific sim ) Once Leavu gets "my information" from lockon, then the nothing goes through lockon anymore. It is like LOVP or touch buddy, you could limit the amount of information available to be exported from lockon, but datalink doesnt require anything more than LEAVU does in general. It just needs "where am I" and "where are my targets" ( this information is also used to draw the radar screen) I'm sure there will be servers who go both ways, at least my server will :). It will run russian datalink on red side an leavu datalink on blue. Eventually i am thinking of including a GCI package in leavu for red side, so the datalink does what the real red dlink does : GCI can control your radar to let you attack targets! I really want to integrate leavu with ATC software :). Improved shading a little bit If anybody has suggestions where I can get new 3d models, how to generate new ones etc, that would be very welcome, or if you want to code them yourself that is even better :). All contributions to leavu would be very welcome.

ADI mostly finished, some cpu usage test results on the new leavu 3d renderer

DCS available on Steam soon please?
RvEYoda replied to fearlessfrog's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I think steam is not being considered due to high costs? But also have a look at one of the competitors : "Impulse", which I think in most ways is superior to Steam. http://www.impulsedriven.com/ ( wow their main page is ugly, luckily their app is pretty :)) -
Ok I have started implementing 3d rendering into leavu, i'm currently coding and testing some basic shapes. Don't mind the colors here, I mean, they are TEST colors :). I will replace them, and maybe texture map the whole thing.. Maybe add lighting. Picture below renders a half sphere (white) with a full circle of 10 degree markers. Update , some colors : Update : update 4 : Now I just need to implement material properties

No i think the seeker range will be about the same ( cannot confirm ) but that that the missile is REALLY unlikely to pick up anything if maddogged ( basically just wont ). Well that is how I have understood things. Same goes for all other heaters as well.
-
It already shows in Fc 1.12 when it has a seeker lock. the "LA" appears with a box around, meaning the missile is authorized to launch. in the case of the ET this means seeker lock and in range.

In some ways I think 3d would be easier than 2d

Steam Gauges Ok now I feel I'm basically done with the MFD and the main parts of the LEAVU architecture, i've heard that many people are looking for steamgauges, general instruments. So I'd like to know what you think is the best way of rendering these things. It has to scale with size/resolution though so just a fixed size bitmap wont work, but a texture on top of geometry could work... But what I really would like is to have a blank resizeable windo where you can remove or add instruments to. Like you start the steamgauges instrument in leavu, then you get two windows, one with the available gauges and another where you can drop them. Does this sound like a reasonable solution to you ? Otherwise the easiest solution is probably just to render each gauge in a separate window. The problem here is that the window becomes square or rectangular, java does not support anything else... Thinking about it, this is probably the best idea... Now question : is it important for the gauges to be rendered in 3D? Will it look nicer ? It is probably the same amount of work so im just wondering if you think it will be prettier.. I am not sure

Ok, I dont want to steal this thread or anything, but I think it may be interesting to share some opinions about different hotas setups we've tried ? Ive gone through 2 cougars with 3 different mods and an X52 plus a few cheaper sticks. So to give my impression on the following : Saitek X52 Hotas Cougar Stock Hotas Cougar u2NXT Hotas Cougar FCC2 Hotas Cougar FssbR2 Hotas Cougar Stock Well the metal frame is nice ;), and the programming software rocks. The inside mechanics are junk and the sensors are of the quality you can buy yourself for less than 1 euro a piece. Their game performance reflects that price unfortunately. Mechanics wear very fast, so tbh you really dont want to use an unmodded cougar... IMHO if you cannot get a modded version you should prob get a ... Saitek X52 Plastic fantastic! The programming software honestly is crap, the sensors ( i have not opnened it so I can only speak from experience using it ) seem to be crap as well, but the X,Y sensors work very well with good precision. The throttle sensor also seems to work decent but the rotators are imprecise and tend to jump a bit, also the mouse isn't very good, Cougar mouse is better imo. Hotas Cougar u2nxt Well, to this date the most precise stick i have ever tried, both mechanically and electronically. If you want to fly on 3.1 G or a precise -2.95 degree glide slope this mod will do the trick :). Still, for quick dogfighting etc you still have a heavy stick to kick around. Very good for smooth play, little heavy for twitchy gaming. You dont need to set up a deadzone for this mod. well, that is if you can hold the stick precise enough in the center, cause the sensors will not let you down :). Also expect having to replace a spring every 2-3 mths or so if you are a heavy user ( more than 1 hr/day ) Hotas Cougar FCC2 I've had all sorts of issues with this mod unfortunately. It is possible I got one that didnt come out of production well but the sensors are not very precise, and mine tended to need recalibration based on room temperature and/or what computer I plugged it into, also it seemed to vary with ground potential of where I was at or something like that, cause if I moved the computer the sensors were showing completely diff numbers. Very quick, better than stock cougar, but no NXT killer :). Excellent for twitchy dogfights. Hotas Cougar FSSB R2 Sure it may be the most expensive variant, but is it worth its money? For my purposes, there is a resounding YES!!! Since it is a force stick it is VERY quick. On top of this calibration setup is basically a one time thing, precision is great both high and low G. You can expect to not need more than 1-2% dead zone or possibly even zero if you are lucky :). It does not beat the nxt in terms of precision flying in my opinion, but it comes close, and the other advantages it offers are simply great. For my kind of flying this is the stick for me :). This kind of stick will, in my experience, allow you to control the plane directly, rather than just seeing the stick move ingame and somewhat reflect your intentions, with this mod it will really feel like the plane is an extension of your arm.

I guess it is possible the author has programmed wrong altitudes for runways? Maybe he set them to sealevel ?

Keyboard input video is up! for some reason it only works in HD.

Ok Ive made my first successful tests in controlling my MFD with keyboard :) now i must create a simple way to set up and save controls. Update : ok this is decent enough, I will try to create a demo video Youtube processing.....is slow
