  1. Well, there are always *free versions but I don't usually go that route. You can try here: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/installation-licensing/32bit-3ds-max-trial-needed-any-version/td-p/5616246 Post 2, if you follow that link you can still DL 2013 which has a 32 bit compatibility.
  2. Blender is just as powerful as 3dsMax but certain things aren't as easy or require work arounds. The biggest issue is the conversion process but all those issues can be fixed. Blender may be the most powerful tool out there without a price tag. If you have 3dsMax then you might as well learn that and use it since you have support and an easier route to get from model to game. I use Blender for my work and yes you run into conversion issues occasionally but nothing is ever dead in the water due to that.
  3. Yup, I noticed this on my first night flight while warming up, just looking around and I noticed Orion and then Pleiades, right where they should have been at the time and season. Amazing stuff.
  4. Haven't heard about a fix for 1.2, probably not on the list but in 2.0 Nevada they are spot on so once 2.0 comes out of alpha and they get the other map upgraded for it you'll see it there.
  5. Yup, on the list.
  6. Yeah, I'm away from my PC so once I get back I'll export it.
  7. Whatever you want. I have mine set like this: "Nellis Tower, Nellis Ground, Nellis Approach" (Replace Nellis with the other airfields as well) Those voice commands brings up the next ATC command list, so the above is \, F5, F1. Then I say "[Callsign] requesting start up, or [Callsign] requesting blanket clearance to runway zero three left (or whatever runway), or [Callsign] requesting inbound, [Callsign] requesting landing clearance on runway XX, [Callsign] requesting emergency landing, etc etc. Then to exit the ATC command I have "roger" or wilco or clear comms. Its basically endless. I'm not a real pilot so not sure what you would call to bring up ATC but as an aircraft recovery spec driving around the airfield we would either say "X Tower" or " X Ground." I like saying "X approach when requesting landing though. I also have the ground crew commands, so I say Chief, or wrench monkeys, or crew chief, which brings up the ground crew list, then "brass and gas" or rearm or refuel, or wash the windows, check the oil, or hook up ground power, or disconnect ground power. The more ways to say the same command the better, because you often forget them. One thing is a must though: Train windows at least 6-7 times. I noticed when I upgraded to windows 10 it has much better recognition.
  8. Performance would tank even if you had multiple Titans. If you had every reflection show a true reflection it would be like having mirrors on but having 30 mirrors. The techniques used give us the best look without hitting the performance. As time goes, the limits will be pushed and new techniques will be tried and tested. This is seen with the different cockpits as mentioned above, some have these newer things, some don't. VR is a good example of adapting and trying new techniques, with that working a modeler has to be careful about what polygons you delete since the player can see a lot more now at difference angles. Before you could get away with deleting basically the back half of everything, saving huge numbers of polys. Just look how much we've come in 14 years, the next 3-5 years are going to amazing so don't worry, I think you'll get your wish:
  9. Maybe try this out, might help: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=143331
  10. There are these, not quite what you may be looking for but something: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=124251
  11. Yup, either way works. The program is a must IMO, on par with trackir or VR.
  12. This should get you started: http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/forums/showthread.php/461-Panel-Line-and-Rivet-Shading
  13. No worries, I may be missing something. All I did was cleared every command that is set by default. In my situation, in the controls area I have the following from left to right: Keyboard, Saitek Yoke/Throttle, G940 rudder, G940 throttle, G940 stick, GP-Wiz40, TrackIR, Mouse. After clearing everything, I was able to assign whatever I wanted to whatever button. Then just assign cockpit view to shift+V+G+ whatever and then it frees up the F commands to stay with the ATC stuff. I'll double check this once I get back to my PC later this week but I know I have toggle switches assigned to F commands to change between map and cockpit view and they don't seem to interfere with the ATC commands unless the menu is up and active.
  14. Just change the view key from F1 to something else in the keyboard section of the controls.
  15. I highly recommend getting Voice Attack. It is only $8.00 http://www.voiceattack.com/ With the rift, DCS A-10C, and DCS 2.0 NTTR, Voice Attack is a must. Can't get much closer to real. You can have as long and as many voice commands to activate anything. For example, to bring up the ATC command list, it is \, F5, and then the closest airfield is F1. So if I'm at Nellis wanting to power up, I say "Nellis Ground" and that series of key presses activates, bringing me to the next list, then I say "[Callsign], requesting start up." "Nellis Tower" brings up my ATC command when I want an inbound, "Nellis Approach" brings up when I want to request landing clearance. Taxing can get more real as well. I say "[Callsign] requesting blanket clearance to runway zero three left" or whatever runway, so if you are at Creech, one three or any of the other runways. It takes a while to set up but totally worth it. Etc, etc. With your set up its a must. You won't regret it. One other thing, I also set up all the F command and numbers as Foxtrot One, Foxtrot Two, etc for if I forget what I have to say. If not, just assign the F keys like any other key.
  16. Glad there is a little interest. Need to finish the rear wheels and undercarriage system and the details for the horizontal and vertical stabilizers as well as the main wings, and then add some rivets and panel lines and create the bump/spec maps. After that it should be quicker and easier to do the other airlines. Toughest part will be getting them into DCS since I use Blender.
  17. See here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2603189&postcount=4 Here's another shot:
  18. This is very much a side project but when I have time I'll keep knocking it out. I started this last night so hopefully I can get these done in a short time. Again, these are secondary modeling projects and will be static. A-319/320 -Frontier's Grizwald the Bear and I'll also do Virginia the Wolf -United Possibly a Jetblue and USAirways 737-800 -Southwest -United
  19. For one McCarren should be lit up all night and in low light, everything on and a blaze. Can't speak to the other three airfields since I don't have that knowledge but in my time in the USMC we had all airfield lighting on during operations until the airfield closed, if it did. Anyways, for the issue I found. At Creech if you cold start and get the runway 13 once you get to the runway and get clearance the lights turn on but that isn't that case when landing on 13 if you don't start from that airfield. You get clearance for 13 but they never turn the lights on. Probably drinking beer in the tower.
  20. With OR's release just around the corner I was curious on if there are any plans on putting a pilot in the A-10C with animations.
  21. Loving DCS 2.0 NTTR. Brilliant stuff.
  22. Who is this dude... creeper. Haha
  23. There are plenty of Ponderosa Pine around the Vegas area. Just north of Vegas are some good hiking areas that are pretty densely populated with big pines, and just east you start getting into the Colorado plateau area once you get into Utah. Same with just west, you start getting closer to the Sierras. This area in real life (the southwest/Colorado plateau, not Vegas :) ) is one of the coolest areas on earth because of the drastic changes in vegetation/scenery and how quick those changes happen. I only fly fixed wings so I may be missing what you are saying but I haven't noticed the forest areas until I get away from Vegas and the ground elevation gets higher.
  24. Anyone know where to get the pilot template? I'd like to add some stuff there if possible.
