  1. Yep a nice skin with panel lines , and skinning detailing applied - such as the side engine air vent thingies applied etc , and Mr Blackjack would look extra super duper ! :-)

Forum meet Mr Blackjack , or the beast as i like to call him :-0 TU 160 Blackjack my latest creation weighs in at 58044 polys , the highest poly aircraft i have ever made , i was aiming for below 60000 and achieved it - i have spent an insane amount of hours building this , but man am i proud of it , and very pleased with the end result :-) the model is finished , un animated , un uvwed and unskinned , but complete to the best of my abilities - the colours applied are 3dmax primitives - nothing more ) The model can be made available to Lock ON , my standard terms and conditions apply ) The model has a refuel probe , 8 x kh55 cruise missiles - 6 on board in bomb bays on rotary launcher , and 2 missiles in flight Bomb bays and gear recesses are cut , with doors , all flaps are cut in correction positions as per drawings . Cockpit glass is cut and transparent Just need to add in some LO pilot dude figurines , which i don't have ! Anyway i am off to bed - enjoy the picture links below , which are all renders from 3dmax of the completed aircraft scene . I am a great believer in that if you find a web site such as above , save stuff off it asap and back it up to dvd for your own use , particularly if you plan to model long term , and perhaps make one of those aircraft in the future - the web can be a fickle place , and you never know if that resource of drawings may disappear and go offline in the future - its not worth the risk , those drawings are very excellent and a precious resource , thats why i leeched it all off and backed it all up for my future usage )

  5. this is my fave place - and the best drawings - the cross section slices thru the planes are a must when 3d modelling i find i have all these saved off and burnt to dvd ,my current model build uses one of these drawings http://www.airwar.ru/other/drawe.html

Ok no probs Sponge ) i used to use icq , but have it deinstalled for a long time now i can install Msn etc for online chat etc - mail me with your details etc ) my pc is actually struggling here tech wise at the moment , so i tend to keep it as clean as i can , and have as little loaded at start up at possible i am on xp pro , on an old athlon xp1900+ with a geforce 4 ti 4200 128mb 3d gfx card and 640 ram - i have a about 100 gbs of hd space total - but my pc needs upgrading badly , and i am currently saving my cash , to buy a new base - ie cpu , new hds , 3d card , ram etc i am experiencing crashing of 3dmax at times , its lucky i save alot when modelling ) anyway - until my finances improve , what with car loan , mortgage and my wife and daughter , i will have to make do with what i have and the occasional frustrating pc crash / lock up - i am hoping for a new pc around xmas / new year 08 , all being well anyway send me a mail etc ) Roger
  7. here is the tutorial - its for gmax - the free version of 3dmax - but i used 3dmax and the main aspects are the same - i don't model exactly this way - but its helpful , an insight , and i do recomend you box model - mount images onto planes in the viewports etc http://www.planesimulation.com/gmax2.htm

Sponge , dude the only reason i posted in your thred , was you asked for some help , and i gave you as much info as i could to help on page 1 , i am sorry if you feel your thred was hijacked :-0 i will give you as much help as i can, and i will continue to offer you help and encouragement to continue 3d modelling if you saw the models i made when i first started hobby 3d modelling 5 years ago or more ? frankly you would laugh and i would die of embarassment , my models then were so bad ! Your modelling has alot of potential , and frankly i have seen alot worse - and yes you will improve , and you yourself are the best person to critique your own work - so its not for me to criticise your achievement so far - far from it - i only offer you encouragement to continue - 3d modelling is hard work , pain sweat , the occasional tear and frustration at times - but ultimately its alot of fun and a great feeling to make something great which you feel proud of :-) if you want to contact me off forum etc - you can always email me at troffmeister@hotmail.com i used to use a prog called rccad before i got 3dmax , and then did a tutorial online to build a p38 ww2 plane - which taught me how to mount pics properly and model better using 3dmax - since then all i have learnt and can do is thru years of effort and hours of work , and i still make mistakes and rebuild sections , and as i said before - i do hobby modelling , and i stick to the techniques i know and that work for me Please do not think or feel that no one cares about your projects or 3d modelling all the best Roger :-)

Beer aside , that is why i have been trying to post , some info , some requests , some constructiveness , some sanity into this stupid and pointless request about source code its pretty obvious i am wasting my breath trying to make some headway here regarding 3d modding issues this thred is like letting a someone into the hallway of your house , and then that person then in front of you , decides to discuss how and why they are going to trash your house and rob you , and steal your large big screen telly - its as subtle as that ! Frankly i think this thred should just be closed , better still deleted off the face of the earth - it has no merit and it serves no purpose as can clearly be seen and read !

There is no problem - i have never asked for , nor do i want the source code what would be nice - is to be able to add and do 3d stuff properly using the existing tools , and a new object placement / addition tool - thats my point i disagree - not all Lo models are bad , most are good shapes - personally the a10 / su25 . f15 and others you mention are not even issues to me for 3d enhancement .

Mmmmmm , i think that if you open pandoras box , you should open it all the way , or alternatively leave it firmly locked shut and padlocked ! what i mean by that is - ok ED released 3d max plugins and the Lo viewer which is brilliant , but frankly what is the point of it all , if you cannot add a new object to the game engine permanently ? i know there are different opinions on new aircraft ,flight models , cockpit implementation on new 3d planes , the mp argument as above and probably a whole host of other issues i cannot remember right now - but lets cut to the chase with an example to illustrate my point - i have a nice zubr hovercraft model which i would have liked to have added to the game engine permanently , and using the mission editor , i would liked to have made a single player mission , with a load of these new 3d hovercraft storming a beach head etc even on this basic new 3d ground object and mission idea , i cannot implement this , becoz the new 3d object can't go into the game engine easily and permanently , unless an existing object is removed or transvestised ! the same applies to say adding a farmers tractor or maybe a new submarine etc etc so if you follow this train of thought , what is the point and validity of having any 3d modding tools , such as the current status quo , or even bothering to do 3d modding to this Lo game engine at all with this handicap ? One could think further out of the box and summise - 1 - Black shark is taking a long time to develop - 2- was or is it the case that perhaps ,secretly the reason for relesing the 3d modding tools as is - was to perhaps only facilitate the 3d rebuild and replacement of existing game objects by a 3d modding community - there are some game engine models that could do with some 3d shape tweaking for better shaped smoother models - for example the kc10 refueller model - no offence to ED modellers - i picked that model as an example - with current cpus and gfx cards that model could now do with being smoother and less angular in the game engine . So as Shakespeare said - TO BE , OR NOT TO BE , THAT IS THE QUESTION !

  14. this is my last post in this thred - i am kind of getting cheesed off with it all , but before i depart i just want to highlight a few things 1 - we don't all play online - i have been pc gaming since the days of 486 dx33 processors - i have played descent on a lan , and played some mp - doom , quake , and some of the medal of honor type fps games online - and frankly i get so bored playing mp deathmatch games etc - its just oh so repetitive - so in summary to me multi player gaming is not even on my radar - i prefer the single player experience , as well as using a mission editor to make some fun single player misions etc so where i am coming from - the notion that one should not 3d mod a game - or add in new 3d content becoz - a - it might upset the mp crowd , and -b - it might break the mp crowds fun , becoz of incompatibilities between mp version of the game , is at best in my opinion , tough luck , and also all this can easily be avoided - by installing vanilla LO , and just DON'T install 3rd party community mods - if you want to play MP simply follow and stick to this oh so simple process ,and problem solved. MP and 3d modding do not have to rain on each others parade ! Lastly can we all just shut up about stealing game engine codes - even if it was delivered by courier to you door , most of us me included would not even have a clue what to do with it - and its really really disrespectful to post here on ED's forum door step and even talk about stealing their property ! I have suggested a few constructive ways that ED could help / enhance the current situation , and help us all to expand community modding - you can read it above or over the page - i am not going to state it all again if you guys whether you can mod or not , would actually speak up , engage brains and add your constructive support to ideas and requests , maybe things can and will move forward , and some new util tools might get made and released to help us all from ED Roger

  19. 1 am here just off to bed , did some modelling tonight, made good progress , just the main wing to build and clone over to other side , and 1 missile to build then prepare the 3dmax scene to take some renders / screenshots , to post up on here to show you all i am really pleased with it , an un-veiling soon - i reckon the weekend at latest )

  22. once i finish the new model i will post up alot of pics - i think i am 1 week away from finishing - i said that last week tho - my wife , my 2 yr old toddler , and my job and free time are getting in the way of finishing the new model - i will be doing some modelling tonight for sure ) its my daughters 2nd birthday on thursday , so this week i am having to help the wife out in the evening doing preparation - apparently weds night - i have a mammoth blowing up of balloons task to do - lol :-)
  23. p.s to make the pit open once modelled, just give it a pivot and rotate it i tend to copy the whole canopy so in my 3dmax scene on the model i have an open and closed canopy on the same model - eg 2 pieces stuck on the model by this stage my model is 100% built and saved out , off the pc onto blank dvd for my collection - the next stage is uvw mapping / skinning - which i don't do - i just build stuff for fun )
  24. i make my models 100% out of cylinders too - primitive 3dmax objects - as editable meshes etc re the cockpit canopy - on a plane eg the f16 - i would make the cockpit bubble as a cylinder a fresh piece - i would model the cockpit struts and the cuts - ie where the pit opens and closes as a specific line in the model - saves cutting it at a later date - once the pit and frame is done - i would highlight and remove / color in 3dmax materials all the glass areas as a visual aid - so all the glass would now be a separate object - normally i call it pit glass , and give it a blue color which i make 40% opaque to give transparent glass effect whilst building the rest of the model , this leaves the frame as 1 piece - to make the pit frame more 3d - rather than a 2d wall effect - i would use extrude on the faces inward to where the pilot sits to make the frame more meaty and 3d ! i used this technique on my eurofighters - but it was an after thought - ie i went back and had to cut all the pieces - eg where the cockpit frame opens - so next time i make a fighter eg your f16 for example - i would specifically model the pit cuts at outset - to deliberately make the cockpit open and close for a LO fighter hope this helps - i am only a 3d hobby modeller and self taught i am no expert - i stick to the techniques that i like and that work for me - there is probably a more efficient / different way to do it - we all model differently , but i like my way , and i end up with a very clean nice looking efficient model , and when adding to a game engine , this i feel counts alot anyway have fun i hope this helps ) Roger :-)
  25. are you using line drawings mounted in 3dmax - the so called open box modelling technique ? i.e reference line drawing pics mounted on planes / walls in 3dmax on my new model i have main wing to do - 1 missile and 1 gear bay strut to cut - hopefully have it done within 1 week - real life gets getting in the way of 3d modelling right now tho ( ! i am determined to get it 100% finished asap ) Roger
