  1. firstly if you are a gamer , leave vista alone until they improve its compatibility etc stick with winxp for gaming - thats not my advice , but from most forums , most gamers and most pc gaming magazines - vista yes one day , when they fix it etc , but not yet !
  2. why do you think certain people don't post here anymore ? answer becoz - you ask for help , you don't get it , everyone wants a free lunch , and they don't want to set the table or do the dishes afterwards !

We don't all do multiplayer , so in relation to 3d modding etc , its not an issue i feel - as one has the option to install or not install addons - for yourself and your multi player buddies as you see fit - the mp argument is not in itself a valid reason to cease or desist any modding effort imo . i really think tho this thred should be closed now - as we / you are all pontificating about leaking / releasing a source code of the LO - which has not / and will never happen - and this thred is just going around and around in pointless circles ! we may as well be discussing the merits of 2 tramps / vagrants urinating up a wall , its about as valid and pointless as that !
  5. p.s you don't need the very latest version of 3dmax to do this either , older versions can handle animation / skinning etc , and they are out there on the web to find ! i started to model on 3dmax r3 years ago - which is old now but still more than capable of doing the required processes ! i forgot to add GMAX - is the free version of 3dmax you can download - if you want to learn to skin / animate and generally mess around with 3d objects if i can help further , you can all mail me at troffmeister@hotmail.com no problemos :-) Roger

  7. what is needed is for more community members to learn the arts of skinning and animation , and Lo game engine argument tweaking - then models might actually get released for people to play with and enjoy imo ! the community needs to learn the tools that are out there now , and contribute , and help out people like myself - that have made and are prepared to donate the odd 3d model or two - this would be alot more constructive , than all the leak the source code pontifications !   15. so is there some sort of anti phallus thing going on ?? - i thought every aircraft had a cockpit - the place - where men or women pilots sit and fly the things ? does not a 747 have a cockpit - or is it called the bridge - like a ship or a starship nowadays ? my ford focus car has a windscreen - an f16 has a canopy i believe and a cockpit ! as far as i am concerned it is and always will be a cockpit , and as we were discussing a 3d model , cockpit glass seems fine too me if its politically incorrect term , hey bring it on , i luv being politically incorrect , perhaps send some large feminist types wearing boiler suits over to sit on my chest ) roflmao :-)
  16. i normally use the colors white and red in 3dmax , as i build models , to show parts , and also to show up any nasty stretching or errors etc as a visual aid ) colours applied to models at this stage have no effect on the actual skinning process , which is the application of uvw to the model , then the actual skin camouflage itself , a bmp picture etc Roger ps whats happened to the cockpit glass ?

Thanks ALFA thats heartening to know ) i am about 3 weeks away from showing 3 new related 3d objects , i have built / still making here ) depending on the response i get to these in terms of LO implementation , when i publish the screenshot renders , i will review the 3d modding situation then . The worse case scenario for me , means paying a small monthly fee for some reliable webspace , doing my own modelling hobby website , and continuing to build the 3d models i want , still to the 60-125k poly thresholds for aircraft and ships - as a general fun hobby , and not specifically aimed for LO if i decide to do this , then its unlikely i will continue to post here , its pointless to show 3d stuff here on the LO forums , if the objects will never make it into the LO game engine correctly anyway thats my take on the situation ,cheers for the info Roger )

Thanks Alfa , that is the kind of clarification , i have been waiting for along time , both reading and posting on these forums ) having digested the info you have provided , it sadly confirms what i had thought , and my worse case scenario ! my aspiration , was to be able to add alot of new stuff into the Lo engine , and do a fs2004 in terms of planes , ships etc - and have these new 3d entities in the game mission editor as usuable objects , eg planes a flying , ships a sailing , and weapons a firing etc - as this is not possible to achieve satisfactorily - and as i personally find the swapping in / out of existing 3d objects undesirable , i think its time to be realistic and abandon my LO game engine 3d aspirations thanks for clarifying Roger

Re the new TU160 , its here safe , saved , i am still awaiting the community - so god knows ? anyway - only ED knows , thats exactly my point - can ED clarify , if a tool , can or will ever exist , and is it possible to add an infinite number of new 3d objects into the game engine by the community - or is this just a dream , and its only possible to replace or swap out existing objects ?????? can we have a defininate answer please ?

This is another perfect example of why i have requested on numerous occasions a new modding tool - an object slot creator / editor from ED - for the community we need to be able to add new items whatever they may be to the Lo game engine / mission editor imo -be that ship / plane / vehicle / building whatever - its a travesty to have to remove game engine built items - in order to add in a new object - it defeats the whole purpose of 3d modding , we want to enhance and add additional objects - NOT have to remove ED created game object items I am so fed up of saying this and no one listens - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ED tune you radar into this request , and give it some serous consideration , and see what you can do for us all to add new object slots into the LO game engine - thankyou in advance ) The hangar etc , and the pics are all very nice btw BRAVO !! :-) Roger :-)
  21. sounds good - i have some carrier ideas - i will use that term generically - i have schematic line drawing plans of a number of interesting objects , that 1 day i would like to 3d build - i think 100 to 150 k as a maximum figure could do some of my carrier ideas very nicely ) i am a great believer in less is more - and to utilise skinning to enhance object detail - particularly in relation to game engine 3d modelling obviously you don't have to 3d model every air vent etc on an object , when a nice skin can yield the same visual effect - obviously critical object recesses is a different matter - eg an aircraft engine intake etc ) i will also model - the full object truely - i mean by that - on a ship / submarine it will have a full hull and propellers etc , under the water line - despite Lo not needing this underwater aspect - for me its essential to do the object correct obviously , one can always slice off the model at the game engine water line to cut off the underwater area and save polys etc for the game engine if they ever get that far )
  22. ok thanks , thats fascinating experiments you have conducted there ) i think then if i build to say max 100.000 polys , that would seem reasonable to not over stress the game engine , on the water as u mention i can build a very wicked big ship at well below 100k , military or commercial , also i can model all the main bits masts etc - very intricate detail features - say for example every cross beam on a masts super structure . or a meshed radar dish , can always be skinned on for extra detail features i feel i think at 100k , a very nice overall shape should be possible , and still look very nice in the game engine , with a nicely detailed skin thanks for the reply ) Roger

Alfa , can you give me some info please on the poly count of the naval vessels eg how big is the Kuz ? can you give me a general run down on the size of the other military capital ships on both the USA and USSR sides , and also some target figures for some of the commercial shipping objects please ? generally i am after poly sizes to build to - if i wanted to add any new 3d shipping objects of the different types , obviously i don't want to build too poly high and stress out the game engine ) thankyou in advance Roger )

Its troffmeister@hotmail.com? yep correct got your mail - this may be a liitle short / blunt as i am really busy here real life stuff today - but here is a short reply / help view these http://www.bobsyouruncle.net/SF3dMod...king3views.rar http://www.bobsyouruncle.net/3dtutor...03%20views.rar download all these , view them take notes / keep them safe - and these below http://www.gulfknight.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2198 basically all 3 way drawings are normally wrong size wise - get photoshop or acdsee or some image manipulator , and cut all the views - top / side / front / back etc - views of your plane eg f16 then actually measure them and check they are all 100% straight , you may have to rotate them even by 0.5 of a degree sometimes ! you should - " open box model " and stamp your cut images onto walls / planes in 3d max , as per above videos that way you have correct sizes on all 3 walls - eg length 10 m , height 5 ms , width 8 ms etc - eg the box is correct / the images are correct size and all dead straight , so u can model correct and accurate - do exactly as the above vids - its the best it takes time to prepare but is 1000% worth it ) all my model parts are 100 % cylinders / wings . tail . nose . canopy etc - i cut pieces out using the compound boolean technique - see the vid about creating canopy glass - i use exactly this to cut the flaps on tail . wings . bomb bay - whatever i need i try this technique did i forget anything ?   25. sorry your wrong / misunderstand my post - the reason i am getting a new pc - is to be able to keep up , play stuff and do more 3d stuff - and play blue shark and other stuff like crysis and dx10 pc games etc ) i did not say anything about not wanting models x or y - at whatever the poly count is - far from it bring them on - just hope my new pc will cope with them , as and when ) what i said is - i personally will not 3d model an f15 , a su27 or an a10 etc myself , and come here to show it off etc , purely becoz of the politics and stuff i mentioned above IF i ever 3d model these aircraft , and i have no intention of doing so right now , i have alot of other ideas of stuff i would like to do / make - too much stuff in fact goes thru my head on a daily basis re 3d building - a plethora of new exciting objects - of which i already have the schematic drawings prepared and loaded into 3dmax , ready for the day i actually start to build model x or y - and thats the truth , i am a building a new ground object today , and will continue later tonight ) IF i did build say an F15 it would be for my hobby , my personal pleasure , and the hell of doing it , Not for the Lock On game engine , simply becoz i don't want to model anything and feel under pressure and scrutiny from the community Mr BLACKJACK TU160 - i made becoz i like the plane alot , it was not expected , no politics , no pressure , and simply becoz i could , and i wanted too - and its sitting here waiting for you guys to take it off my hands and add it to the LO game engine - notice i have moved on to a new 3d build ) there is lets say alot of expectation in regard to the LO flyable aircraft - in terms if one was to rebuild them , simply becoz they are that , they are the flyables , in essence they are the game we paid cash for ! jesus ,soon i will be clarifying my clarifications for the sake of clarification - gasp lol this is what i am saying !
