Am I going mad, or has there been a change to the Huey flight model? I tried a few autorotations today (with variable payloads) and the huey now has a hell of a descent rate compared to what I remember. This might be more realistic, but I can't remember any release notes mentioning anything about the Huey for a while now. Also, the slingloading seems very erratic now. When I pick loads up, I often get the screen black out as if I have pulled some mad G, at which point I quickly drop the load and recover. The load then goes mad on the ground, and I end up with it bouncing around like a rabid dog (it is quite entertaining to see a container with a life of its own attacking the control tower building and jumping all over the place).

Sorry for the delay. I renamed the settings.lua and it rebuilt, but still the missions and training are missing. I have found a work round. You can still load them all in the mission editor, just not from the main menu.

Since the latest update I seem to have lost most (apart from the 3 Standard missions - mount Elbrus rescue, etc) of my missions. All the quick starts are gone, as are all the training missions. Any ideas?

I have been away from DCS for a couple of months, and just had a go in my beloved MIG-21. (Just updated DCS to the latest 1.5.7) I flew the first mission of the stillness in time campaign, from the updated version with more realistic AI (where you position from Krymsk to Kutaisi) and performance is awful. I haven't changed any of my settings (I'm running a pd of 1.7 through the oculus tray tool) and am getting 25 fps on the ground (where I always got 45 with ASW Auto). Once at 10,000 m, the horizon (which has a lovely orange glow above the cloud) becomes very strange. It is made up of lots of jaggy steps, as opposed to a straight line (almost like a Comodore 64 game, but worse). At this point my frame rate is 90. I have tried turning off ASW, but it doesn't help. Any suggestions?

And that is why I will never buy another Saitek product (even though they're now Logitech). I have owned so many of their sticks, yokes, throttles, Pedals etc. And they are made with the cheapest possible potentiometers. All my current gear (from my fantastic Komodo Sim helicopter stuff, to my thrustmaster warthog and Crosswind pedals) now have Hall Sensors. No need to worry any more, no more spiking, or constant cleaning [emoji3]

I can second the crosswinds (and warthog extension). Fantastic quality

I had this same problem. It turned out that the throttle twist grip on my Komodo Sim Collective wasn't registering 0 throttle input when fully rolled off. I deselected it for this part of the mission, and used the keyboard to decrease throttle, and this did the job. Hope this might help!

I just completed the brilliant Argo campaign (thanks Greg and team for putting the effort in - campaigns are sorely lacking in DCS). I just thought I would give my 2 pence worth of observations! Positive: - A great variety of missions, covering all sorts of mission types and surprises as well. - Nice voice overs keeping you informed the whole time of your mission progress. - Good level of difficulty (with none too impossible) - Lots of nice Farps and many ship landings - Good story line linking missions together nicely. Things I might possibly change if I were tailoring it to me: - More ATC involvement, as flying in and out of airports/FARPS would involve a fair bit of following precise instructions (maybe because I'm and Air Traffic Controller I notice this more :) ) - Less flying in a straight line for long periods (did the Argo really need to be so far from shore?). I have limited time on my computer, and a mission which involves flying long distances in a straight line becomes difficult. I know in real life helicopter pilots fly in straight lines for long periods, but I would have preferred more manoeuvring/mission based stuff. This becomes particularly noticeable when you have to re-fly a mission, and spend the first 20 minutes getting anywhere near the action (or like in the last mission, the last 45 minutes getting back home). - Although I absolutely loved the weather (varying conditions - difficult conditions), you don't get CB clouds sparking lightning out with a cloud ceiling of 30,000 ft. More like between 2000-5000 for this type of cloud. - the formation flying was strange. Having the helicopters following you (but flying in front) is hilarious at times. A system similar to the one used in the UN campaign would be better, where you follow a formation to the target. This also helps improve formation flying (which is great fun). - Some random failures on the helicopter would also be nice Please don't let these observations detract from what was the most fun campaign I have flown in DCS. I am really looking forward to your next one! :)

Thanks, I finally managed it. It was the first vehicle that was giving me trouble, it is the one that blows itself up. On the third attempt I knew to keep a very good distance from it, and I finished the mission. 2 to go!!!!
-
I have tried a few times now without luck to complete this excellent mission! As you have no rockets, you have to get quite close in to destroy the vehicle, and then I always end up dead in the explosion. Anyone got any tips for this one? Thanks Neil

I second this! Been flying in vR a bit, and the cockpit looks like there is a stage spotlight illuminating it at times!

Does that mean that pilots turn heading to north after shutting down. On most aircraft I have flown, the DI is roughly where it was left from the last flight, and only needs minor adjustment (if any). I suppose the aircraft could have been hangerred overnight and returned to a new position, but this seems unlikely on the back of a ship [emoji12]

I always seem to have to sync it from cold start (unless my helicopter happens to be facing North)

upuaut's Bell 47 Alpha release!
LCYCowboy replied to Hawkeye60's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Fantastic Mod!!!! How do you guys work out your side slip (with no ball, and no string on the canopy)? Also, is it possible to get a pilot into the cockpit. Kind of freaky in VR -
I love the latest update: - The pitch nodding has gone - The SAU landing mode is now very stable - Aircraft seems to have more inertia BUT, the first time I retracted the gear after takeoff, I got 3 clicks instead of the nice thuds. The second time and thereafter, I got no sounds at all when retracting landing gear!

I fiddled with the digital vibrance settings under Nvidia, and it makes it look a lot better with OR. Definitely worth doing -

I have noticed that flying (VR) very near smoke kills FPS, but they are useful when heli flying to gauge the wind direction and strength. -

At least you found the cargo [emoji12] -

Why turn it off, is this to save fps? -
"ARGO" DCS UH-1H SP Campaign - Upcoming DLC
LCYCowboy replied to gregzagk's topic in UH-1H Argo Campaign
Hi Greg, I just checked the mission editor, and the cargo is where it should be. I will have another go at flying it tomorrow (family permitting). Thanks again, Neil ps. I noticed the routing on the kneeboard and in the mission editor. Is this just a nicety, or should I be following it strictly? On this mission, I just climbed to the North up to 3000ft, and then followed the NDB direct. -

I landed at about 20 places (including right under the C-17 tail) and never got an F6 option -

Thanks Greg, But there is definitely something wrong here. I flew around for 20 minutes and there was definitely no liquid oxygen tank. There was the C17, with a big fuel tanker directly behind it, and then a large area of ramp (lit up by the parked trucks). I looked everywhere. One thing I did do is fly direct from the FARP to the airport (following the ADF) rather than following the route on the kneeboard. Did I maybe get there too early? -

I agree wholeheartedly. Fantastic campaign. I am stuck on 8 at the moment (I can't find any cargo where it should be), but I am probably doing something wrong. I've enjoyed the other 7 missions immensely. Lots of variety -
Mission 8: I flew successfully to the airport, and found the C-17 with trucks and soldiers behind it (the trucks were illuminating an area behind it), but there was no cargo there. Directly behind the C-17 was a big tanker truck. I landed in the area behind the C-17 illuminated by the trucks, but there was no cargo anywhere. I tried F6, but there was no cargo listed. I flew all around the airfield a few times, landed in various places near the C-17, but still no cargo. Pity, as it has destroyed my 100% campaign success :-)
