  1. Forgot to say, I love the fact that all the flying distances are short. There is nothing more annoying than having to fly around for hours I a straight line. That's why I gave up with the medevac campaign (which was otherwise brilliant)
  2. After a few missions I learnt the area, so only use the briefing page to find out where to fly, and don't use the map (more realistic [emoji12]). I tried a level 10, picked up some troops, and whilst overflying base (on the way south) I got a chip detector. Being a cowboy, instead of landing I elected to continue to the troop drop of sight. I then got a hot transmission oil warning, quickly followed by an autorotation into a field. Great fun [emoji3]
  3. I have been having great fun with these missions. Thanks you so much!!! Has anyone noticed that there is a problem after dropping of the slingload. The helicopter behaves as if a load is still attached??
  4. Thanks for all the replies. I just couldn't work out why the developers had put in an option for non-ffb no-spring when it doesn't do anything. It makes a noise in the cockpit, so I suppose it is a placebo. I might use that button as the engineer/autopilot reset instead
  5. Cyclic Trim button My cyclic is balanced and stays in place when you let go. It has no centre position. So what is the point of pressing the trim button when the joystick already stays in place?
  6. I am lucky enough to have the full Komodo Sim Huey kit, and the cyclic is hydraulic damped free moving without any centre spring. In the Mi-8 options there are several trim options, and I have chosen the non FFB, no centre spring one. My question is, what does the trim button now do. As far as I understand it, in the real helicopter, your move the cyclic (pushing against forces) and pressing the trim button removes those forces so that the stich position stays where it is, but there is no longer a force to push against. On the sim rig, the cyclic moves to a position, but as it has no force feedback, there are no forces acting against it, and removing your hand from the stick, just leaves it there. So what happens when I now press the trim button? I am a bit confused (easily done)
  7. Just had a go at this. Fantastic!!! Just a couple of questions, the radio for Groom is given as Channel 1, but I am unable to contact ATC. Also, does anyone know how to get the map to display on the kneeboard? Thirdly, (and unfortunately, most importantly) I will have to wait a while longer until DCS 2 is updated to remove the bug where any AI Mig-21 crashes the FPS from 45 (AWS) to about 8-11 whilst flying in VR.
  8. Hi guys, I am having so much fun with the Mig, after a couple of months, I have now got it mostly figured. I know how to avoid engine flameout by avoiding negative G or inverted flight, but there is one flameout that still confuses me. Yesterday I was returning from a mission and needed to burn some fuel off before landing to reduce below maximum landing weight, so I thought I would descend slowly with afterburn on to burn fuel off quickly. However, as I approached Mach 1.5, the engine flamed out. There were no warning lights on prior to this and the engine N1 and temperature gauges were all okay. I did a relight and tried again, once more the engine flamed out, and this time I couldn't relight it (and yes, I did keep my speed high enough on the relight attempt :-) ) I didn't get any noises to indicate a compressor stall, the only thing I can think of is that I was trying to fly too fast too low, but this didn't seem to give any kind of warning before it happened. I can't say how much I'm loving this plane, thanks for any replies
  9. Thanks for the in depth answer! Can I pick your brain further about the SAU stability mode. When should this used by pilots. It seems to have a large damping effect on all controls. Should it be switched on after take-off and off just before combat manoeuvring, and then back on for landing? I have not really used this mode much
  10. The 3D is fantastic with Rift (I don't have a Vice so can't comment, but would expect it to be similar). VR is so immersive that when I open the canopy/door at the end of a flight, I feel the cool breeze blowing across me (I really do, although with time this is getting less and less - but then the nausea also disappeared, so the brain has adjusted)
  11. I gave it another go, and managed to briefly get a lock on the third B-52. It seems a lot harder than in the Tutorial, maybe it is the lower heat signature, or as you said, the scramble time. I absolutely love the MIG -21 in VR. Blows my mind. I landed with 1 missile left. What a struggle. I assume you are supposed to dump unused ordinance before landing?
  12. Sorry about the delay, here is a copy of the mission. The payload is the standard "Short Range" Mig-21_B52_intrcept_Dusk-cold.miz
  13. Thanks for the quick answers! What a fantastic forum! The landing lights were as predicted operator error. I wasn't retracting them in time, so they ripped off :-( I think the SAU problem is probably linked to the flight model changes. I know that when I came back to the MIG-21, I had real problems on finals, keeping it straight without rocking side to side. I blamed it on my new hardware (I updated from a Thrustmaster 1600 to a Warthog Hotas). I now realise that it is a change to the flight model. Having said that, the reason why I really love DCS (both Helis and fixed wing) is that the flight models have a real feeling of inertia. In FSX/P3D, it always feels like the aircraft don't weigh anything. My real world flying is always a lot easier as you feel the weight of the plane. DCS always manages to put this feeling across a lot more than other sims. The missile problem. I go into editor, change the load to the pre-defined 2xIR 2xRAD (2x3S and 2x3R??), and looking out onto the wing, I have 2 different types of missile. In the tutorial I have no problems, but in the mission I select the IR missile (both the missile selector toggle on the left, and the correct pylon station), but following the B-52s, I never get the lock on beep, or the pipper moving over the target. I can fire the RAD missiles fine, and use my guns, but can't manage to get the IR missiles to fire
  14. Hi All, I have been getting into flying the MIG-21 again (with my Oculus). With VR it absolutely blows your mind! I am having a few problems and was wondering if any MIG 21 experts might be able to help. 1) The SAU landing mode seems to induce massive side to side rocking motions. I have tried different airports in the Caucasus, and on approach, when perfectly lined up at the correct speed, when I select Auto Land mode, it rocks from side to side (making me feel quite sick with my VR). 2) The landing/Taxi light seem to work fine on taxi out, but after landing back, there is no sign of them on the ground, even though they are definitely on. 3) I downloaded a great mission which involves scrambling from Kuboleti to intercept 4 B-52s and shoot them down. The mission has 4 Radar missiles loaded. I went into the mission editor to change this to 2 Radar and 2 IR, but I never get a lock with the IR missiles. Do B-52s not emit enough heat signature? ps. what is the correct pylon numbering. In the tutorial it seems to say 1/2 are the outer pylons 3/4 the inner, but when I fire 1/2, the inner pylons seem to fire????? Soooo many questions. Sorry, Neil
  15. Good question :-) When I switch on ASW, anything below 45 drops and gives you an fps (as it is no longer locked to 45). When I press CTR-1 and turn off ASW, I get the fps readout even above 45fps. I know when I first ran DCS, it either locked to 45 or 90, but with the CTR-1 CTR-4 keys with ASW, this no longer seems the case
  16. I have definitely noticed some performance decreases in 1.5 recently. I had my (fairly new) PC running perfectly giving around 85-90 with VR (it never dropped below 85, but was capped at 90 by the VR). Since one of the updates, I struggle to get more than 55. In some busy areas with lots of AI, it even drops to 20ish
  17. I have been sling loading VR style in the Huey, there is no camera or indicator, but VR still makes it easier. I am not getting the voice help though, is this Mi8 only?
  18. I can't find Upuaut's complete mod anywhere :-( His signature now links to lots of separate files. Would installing all of these do the same job?
  19. Just found this mission, Fantastic work, look forward to more!!!
  20. Hi all, I just upgraded to 2.04, and it has missions available for the Mig-21. When I run the Cold and Dark startup one, I begin at Nellis, with 2 F-16s starting on my left and my wingman in a Mig-21 on my right. With VR, I get very low fps (about 20-25) as the F-16s taxi out and depart. As soon as I taxi forward, I get my usual 50-80fps (although capped to 45 with ASW). I have tried the same thing without VR, and do not have the same problems?????? For the rest of the flight, my FPS are absolutely fine, it is only bad before taxi (I even waited for the F-16s to disappear, thinking it might be AI related, but this makes no difference. I still get low FPS until I move)
  21. Hi All, I know there was a thread about this, but I just can't find it. I seem to remember it saying that it was better to leave pixel density at 1 in the DCS menu, and to run it at 2 (or any other setting) in the Debug Tool. Is this correct? I can't really spot any real difference?
  22. I seem to really be struggling with FPS since the latest update. I have a fast overclocked i7 6700 with a GTX1080. Up to now, everything has been fine, but after updating DCS to 1.5.5, it seemed to reset some of my settings. I selected the VR presets in Display Options, but I am getting low FPS at times. My normal test flight is the Harbour Tour mission with the Huey, and after lift off when following the AI heli, my FPS now drop between 45 and 25 (using ASW). I am pretty sure that this didn't happen before. I have done some trouble shooting, changing settings (even as far as everything on LOW) but this doesn't seem to make a difference. In my trouble shooting I did notice that the biggest culprit seems to be smoke. If I fly over the top of a chimney stack, my FPS go down to 15-25. When I approach a village/Town and smoking chimneys come into view, the FPS dip. Any hints would be appreciated!
  23. When I first got my Rift CV1 (especially for the Huey, which I love flying) I really suffered beyond belief. Any lateral Yaw movement, or any rocking from side to side on lift off, and I felt very sick. I really panicked and thought I had wasted 3k on a new computer and Rift, only to be sick whenever I used it! After about 2 months I am absolutely fine. It has to be said that I am mostly flying fixed wing in P3D using the excellent Fly Inside, but even when I go back to the Huey I am fine. Another point is that the total immersion has also disappeared (my brain has realised that I am not in a helicopter, but that I am sitting at the computer), but it is still 1000% better than flat monitor flying. @Brixmis don't panic!!! it was probably just an off day! The human body (psychology) is a very complex thing. The more we worry about things, the worse they get. For me, it was after going away on holiday for a few weeks, and then coming back to it, expecting to feel sick, so not worrying, that it all got better!
  24. I have the Oculus CV1, a brand new computer (i7 6700 @ 4.6Ghz, GTX1080) and am getting 90fps most of the time, dropping to 45 over built up areas. I fired up the Oculus with European Truck Simulator 2, thinking this has got to be sedate, and for the most part it was. But when I drove down the ramp from the ferry, my head and stomach lurched as I got to the bottom. It must be the fact that my nervous system is expecting some kind of physical sensation to match what it is seeing, and doesn't get it! I flew the Huey again yesterday, and it is teaching me to fly very, very precisely and sedately. The minute I get any swaying (if the horizon moves quickly) I feel completely disorientated, and don't recover! My big problem is trying to align my Komodo Cyclic before lift, as I don't have the control indicator (CTR-Enter) to set the initial position, so I always get a bit of sway as I lift. I wish Rich would hurry up and get his force trim system working ;-) After £3000+ invested to go VR, I am so disappointed
  25. I'm having real problems. Never really been motion sick before, not in driving, not in sailing and not in real world flying. The moment I nose over the Huey to accelerate down the runway, my head goes mad and I start feeling queezy. I've been trying lots of short 5 minute sessions for the last week, but it isn't getting any better. Its really annoying, as the immersion of flying with VR is amazing! I have tried the sea bands, but they don't even help slightly. :(
