  1. My only gripe with the Mi8 is that it is completely pathetic when it comes to taking small arms fire. In the UH1 you can land in a hot LZ and get absolutely punished by inf with 7.62. At worst you'll lose some panels, cop a cracked windscreen and maybe have an elec problem. Unfortunately however, the Mi-8 seems to fall on the other end of the spectrum. Where even the quickest and lightest brush with hostile 7.62 will usually render one engine completely inop and 8/10 times you lose all your SAS channels which is incredibly painful. Has anyone else had similar experience with the 8 being too soft and squishy when it comes to enemy small arms fire?
  2. Hunting the Medina Division Name: Hunting the Medina Division Author: Dusty Mission Type: Co-op 4/SP Controllable: 4x Ka-50 (Other aircraft could be added without breaking mission) Download Link: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3308631/ Quick summary: 'Hunting the Medina Division' is a co-op (4x Ka-50) mission on the Persian Gulf map. Loosely based on the 'Battle of Medina Ridge' in the 91 Gulf War, this mission can be played SP. Engage hostile ground forces in a deep attack/killbox interdiction style mission. SITUATION: Coalition ground forces are advancing on the city of Jiroft. BLUE armored units will push north from a staging area, their objective is to reach two overwatch positions just south of Jiroft city by bypassing the small town of Mohammadabad. Two Combined Arms Battalions composing of M1A1 Abrams and M2 Bradleys will maneuver east and west of Mohammadabad to reach Objective Hasan and Halil. Elements of a REDFOR armored/mechanised division are defending the objective. Their strength and disposition is unknown. REDFOR is equipped with T72 and T55 main battle tanks along with BMP2 and other IFV/APCs. Mission Notes: - This mission should take roughly 1.7 hours to complete. - Recommended as a coop but can be played as SP. - This mission uses the 'Autonomous Ground Force Tasking' script by 'gromit190'. - The ground force battle will be unique and each mission start. - Hostile air defenses are randomized at each mission launch for additional replayability. - KNOWN ISSUE: Sometimes ground vehicles will get stuck in buildings, this is a limitation of the DCS engine but shouldn't affect mission outcome.
  3. Hey Nealius - Just map the Autopilot Flight Director switch to your HOTAS! Otherwise known as the 'make this thing fly like a normal helo button'.
  4. +1 For working windscreen wipers!!! The Ka50 has the rain droplets on the windshield, the wiper has no effect on moving them so that you can see clearly. Hovering in a downfall is really challenging because you can barely see at the moment. The Shkval seems unaffected by rain.
  5. Hey eyewave, did you ever upload your working version for DCS 2.5?
  6. You consistently give poor advice to new 'players' cromhunt. Again, VRS/settling with power is not a myth and whether or not it is 'over-modeled' in DCS is irrelevant. @cromhunt - Yes you absolutely do and should fly an approach similar to a fixed with aircraft, especially in a heavy Mi8. That's helicopter approach 101. To suggest otherwise shows how inadequate your knowledge on the matter is. The appropriate advice to newbs is to avoid excessive rate of descent with insufficient forward airspeed on approach. Plan your approach like you would in a fixed with aircraft and pick an appropriate base and final leg to reach your LZ. You can then terminate to a roll on landing OR a hover - it matters not. If you nail your approach, you will not have any trouble flying this aircraft. It's a joy to fly and having the extra mass and inertia over the UH-1 makes for an extra challenge and greater reward when you get it right!
  7. +1 The Mi-8 is my first 'non-western' aircraft in any sim and I've completely fallen in love with it. The thing that I found most pleasantly unexpected is that the systems are very logical and easy to use. It looks like a lunar module cockpit initially and very daunting, but the start-up procedure is so logical that it took me less time to get comfortable with than in the Huey!
  8. ^^LOL! 'VRS is a Myth'! I hope newbies don't listen to this guy.
  9. That functionality would be a great win for DCS helo pilots!
  10. In 2.5.6 when switching to the left door gunner the firing sound starts to loop and it seems to be 'doubled' when switching back to another seat. I.e, the sound file plays multiple times and becomes louder even when moving away from the gunner position.
  11. Hilarious, looks and sounds like a great group!
  12. Which mission was this?
  13. Hahahah +1
  14. Press RALT+\ to access the comms menu in flight
  15. Absolutely!
  16. Does anyone know how to fix broken skin packs? So many of the downloads from the user files section of the website have been broken in updates. I'm specifically trying to fix: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3187553/ TIA
  17. +1 MH-60 DAP and HH-60G would be an absolute dream in DCS. I'd settle for a bog standard UH-60L also. It would surely be an immensely popular module so I hope DCS/Belsimtek or any 3rd party Dev picks this up in the next couple of years!
  18. Honestly couldn't care less about a functioning M4. I want the OH-58 to fly it, not to shoot a carbine out the window while an AI pilot flies for me.
  19. +1 Amazing!
  20. Tarawa is still broken for cold starts, no matter what aircraft. Helicopters start off the left hand side of the deck.
  21. Nice, thanks for the answer!
  22. Hey guys, Does anyone have a list of MP servers (PVE or PVP) that have CSAR missions enabled? Thanks
  23. Thanks for the info guys!
  24. Hey all, What kind of weapon loadouts can we expect from the OH-58D? I've never seen a Kiowa carrying 4x AGM114s but that would be a fun loadout for use in the sim! Any confirmation on whether Polychop will aim to simulate the stinger?
