  1. Hahahaha, yeah we all do it. I feel bad asking sometimes because it feels like telling them how to suck eggs, but often it’s a simple brain fart!
  2. None of which mention multi crew. I read every one of them (the English ones anyway) Not being dramatic. All I’m saying is there is a valid argument for an update on this point.
  3. Yeah, I believe infantry M4 doesn’t have the ability to lase. He should but doesn’t.
  4. Until we get a targeting pod, you can’t without a friend in a Harrier or A10 to lase for you. You’ll need to modify the mission to get the JTAC closer and/or give him line of sight to the target. Also make sure he’s in a platform that has the capability to lase. Predator/reaper works well, as they have good LoS and can lase.
  5. Yup, that easy. In the top bar of the F10 menu, it shows the coords of your mouse pointer. Just use LAlt+y to change the format of those coords.
  6. They do have a point with regard to the multi crew. When I bought the Huey years ago, I did so with the expectation, based on the advertising, that I would be able to take some friends up and show them how to employ the Huey operationally, from the front seat. It would be nice to get an update on this feature that I paid for but have not yet seen. I don’t mean this negatively, but if I buy any other product that does not deliver what was advertised, I’m going to be unimpressed as well. On this one point, because some of us committed money based on the promise, I think we should get some kind of word. I agree, if it’s not feasible, please just tell us so we can move on. As of today it is still advertised in the DCS store as forthcoming.
  7. In VR the pilot body adds an immense level of immersion. Seriously, on numerous occasions I have moved my real arm or leg in order to reach a switch, thinking the pilots body will also move! It sounds stupid but it’s true. I’ve even tried to lean on the canopy sill of the Spitfire while leaning outside to taxi...
  8. To attack the more obvious questions first, are you remembering to hold TDC down while slewing, and ensuring you have used sensor select right/left (depending on which DDI you are on) and verifying you have the diamond in the corner of the screen? I find I have to hit SSS left twice for some reason to get the diamond...
  9. JTAC is giving you MGRS, or military grid reference system, which is more accurate than lat/long. In 10 figure format, it’s accurate down to 1 meter. The Hornet will have the ability to input waypoints in MGRS, it’s just not implemented yet. In the meantime, what I do is find the MGRS using the F10 map (use left alt+y to change the coord format in the map). For AGM65E, it’s sufficient to just look at the map then reference that to landmarks outside the cockpit and get a general idea of the target area, as the maverick will lock on the laser for precision guidance as long as you point it in the right area. When more precision is required, such as with bombs/rockets or when we get the TGP, once I’ve located the spot on the F10 map using MGRS, I will use left alt+y to change into lat/long and copy the coords off the map, then I put them into the hornet system as a waypoint.
  10. Also note that in order to lase he must give you a Type II (or Type I, though I’ve never seen this in DCS). A Type III he expects you to identify and engage the targets in your own, usually because he can’t see them, so you won’t get a lase. Based on your description of the radio items available to you, it sounds like he is giving you a Type III.
  11. Yeah, you have to switch modes once or twice after airstarting (switch to AIM120, AIM9 then back), then it works fine. Seems to happen less since the last open beta update though.
  12. My understanding of Kegety’s mod is that it helps alleviate GPU usage, allowing midrange GPUs to run slightly higher MSAA or other settings without impacting FPS. I’ve never run it, as my bottleneck is CPU and I struggle to get full GPU usage as it is. I suspect with the beast of a system that you have, you’ll be in the same boat. Your 8700 has better single core than my Ryzen, but I’d bet it still struggles to feed your monster 2080ti. I think you’ll likely see very little gain from Kegety’s mod. Crank up those visual settings!
  13. I’m away from home until Tuesday, I’ll check how mine behaves when I get home. I honestly don’t use the mode switch at all...
  14. LOL, happens to all of us, no worries :)
  15. Actually the very reference you quoted says 150hr for heli CPL. In Canada it’s only 100hrs IIRC
  16. Yeah, you nailed it. When I started first flying the DCS Huey, I rage quit several times. I’m a friggin’ real life chopper pilot, and I can’t fly this thing! The FM is junk, I’d say to myself. Can’t hover, too sensitive to VRS, etc. After a lot of practice I got better, but I still cannot fly it to the precision that I can with the real thing. I still couldn’t do this in DCS, but I did it IRL: The difference is control precision (I don’t have an extension) and seat of the pants feel. VR helps a lot but doesn’t make up for it all.
  17. I’ve also noticed it can be difficult to get the 9X seeker to slave to radar when using JHMCS. It almost seems like the seeker isn’t sure whether to follow the JHMCS circle or the radar cueing.
  18. I would too, but the problem would be those who aren’t willing to pay. Because they’ve already purchased modules, ED has to continue supporting those paid for modules. Therefore, we’d need to split the branches again, and those who remember the good old days of 1.5 and 2.0 on different branches know this isn’t feasible.
  19. But you CAN fly the OH58 IN Afghanistan, when the Afghan map comes out in a couple years. I remember Banshee flight supporting us Canadians in Afghanistan in 2008... they were incredible and went way above and beyond for us. I’d also like to use this platform for FAC, as you can lase with the ball. If we get a platform with hellfire, we could do buddy lasing with that as well. Imagine a Kiowa lasing for Cobra or Apache, or even other Kiowas - all in a radar threat environment where UAVs or A10C AFACs couldn’t survive.
  20. Yup. The laser spot ends in midair 8NM from the source, so if the lasing aircraft is further than 8NM, the weapon will chase a point in space in midair.
  21. It works great, aside from the long standing 8NM bug. I’ve been laying for my hornet buddies and vice versa, using laser mavs and GBUs without problem. It’s a lot of fun!
  22. Hey LOGIRich, I was wondering if there was any appetite at Logitech to produce an extension for the X56. Given the simple threaded attachments, it would be a very simple matter to install/remove an extension, and I feel like minimal effort on the part of Logitech to produce them. I've been dabbling a bit the last few days in using parts from an older X55 that fried on me during a power surge to create my own extension. I've used the top and bottom couplings, and have no issues there. However, the wiring just isn't going to work, as there's a couple of circuit boards in there that convert 8 wires into 10 pins and I have no idea how they break down. Simply bridging the 10 pins will require some fabbing that I'm not able to do. But if Logitech were to produce an extension... I think there'd be a market for it. Any thoughts?
  23. I thought so too. It almost sounds like something else is running behind you. I kept checking to make sure the APU was off. Just a slightly different sound.
  24. I’ve noticed no difference at all this update. PD 1.5 and MSAA 4x, no shader mod. I haven’t seen any difference in quality, even looking specifically for the new sweet spot everyone talks about, I can’t see it. FPS is also still pegged at 45 with ASW off, no change there. But then I’ve always been CPU limited (waiting for Ryzen 3000 series!!!), and I think the optimizations are aimed at reducing GPU usage.
  25. Merry Christmas to you as well! I see what you’re saying. The diamond is predicated on someone actually declaring the track hostile (whether the pilot using VID, NCTR or another means, or AWACS via datalink). It’s not automated via the IFF interrogation system. I think the great misunderstanding that I was trying to dispel is that IFF alone can tell you someone is hostile - that is of course incorrect, it can only identify friendly or unknown. But you know this :smilewink:
