Not really... Rift spec says 110 degree FOV. For NVG, I think it’s 40 per eye, but due to overlap I don’t think that equates to 80 degrees. From a subjective point of view, with hundreds of hours flying helicopters on NVG, I can tell you the rift FOV is significantly more than NVGs.

One thing I have noticed is that stick is not necessarily the first column in the DCS control setup. In fact, the order of mine from left to right is throttle, pedals then stick. As the column titles usually cut off the full name of the controller, mouse over the heading to get the full name and verify that you are trying to bind the correct controller. Remember to click the cell in the correct column when you are binding the axis. It sounds to me like the columns are reversed.

Didn’t know that! But it makes perfect sense, I am hoping we will get them in the helicopter community, peripheral vision is so important for us. The weight will still be an issue though...

I used 2 X55s and loved them. If you spend a half hour and crack open the throttle to tape up the wiring (before it becomes a problem), they last. I used each one for over 2 years. They do have some well documented issues, but there are fixes for all of them. Aside from this there are obviously one off problems, as with any other product. The warthog has issues too (just look at all the frustration about the TDC controller for the Hornet), and it costs twice as much. For what you get in terms of button selection and software control, the X55/X56 is a great setup for the price. Try one out before you bash it. But back to the point of my post, my X55s did not have this slop in the middle. Everything else about my new X56 (it’s the new grey Logitech model) has been great.

The FOV for standard binocular NVGs is only 40 degrees. 4 tube panoramic NVG expand this to around 90, but are only in use by a very small subset of the community. The rest of us fly behind binocular NVG.

DCS World - Heatblur F-14 Tomcat - Early Access First Look
Sandman1330 replied to Jabbers_'s topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Tell Meg I love her! So I wasn’t the only one who thought this might be an Easter egg?? -
Nope, they don’t all click. Just pressure on the two thumb hats is usually enough, they move but don’t click.
-
Noticed it in the A10, though I never thought to shut down the engines to see if it’s still there. I just thought it was the sound of a pump or something that they added... it sounds like a fuel pump to me.

Nobody? This is getting more and more infuriating. I have to use a deadzone of 4 to cancel out the slop, and it makes very precise movements difficult. I owned 2 different X55s, neither of which had this problem. I'm considering RMAing it, but I wonder if I'll just end up with more of the same...

Hey Doug, Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I just checked mine, and the mode switch does indeed work for both the stick and throttle. In the Logitech software, when I change modes, my profile for both the stick and throttle changes. I also only have 1 X56 icon in my taskbar. Perhaps this has something to do with your problem... Did you perhaps used to have an X55? If so, maybe there's a conflict with the old Saitek and new Logitech software?

Hahahaha, yeah we all do it. I feel bad asking sometimes because it feels like telling them how to suck eggs, but often it’s a simple brain fart!

None of which mention multi crew. I read every one of them (the English ones anyway) Not being dramatic. All I’m saying is there is a valid argument for an update on this point.

How do you use AMG65E when JTAC tells you line1/2/3 N/A
Sandman1330 replied to phil106ci's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Yeah, I believe infantry M4 doesn’t have the ability to lase. He should but doesn’t. -

Sandman1330 replied to phil106ci's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Until we get a targeting pod, you can’t without a friend in a Harrier or A10 to lase for you. You’ll need to modify the mission to get the JTAC closer and/or give him line of sight to the target. Also make sure he’s in a platform that has the capability to lase. Predator/reaper works well, as they have good LoS and can lase. -
HOW TO CONVERT JTAC COORDINATES IN LONG/LAT
Sandman1330 replied to phil106ci's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Yup, that easy. In the top bar of the F10 menu, it shows the coords of your mouse pointer. Just use LAlt+y to change the format of those coords. -
They do have a point with regard to the multi crew. When I bought the Huey years ago, I did so with the expectation, based on the advertising, that I would be able to take some friends up and show them how to employ the Huey operationally, from the front seat. It would be nice to get an update on this feature that I paid for but have not yet seen. I don’t mean this negatively, but if I buy any other product that does not deliver what was advertised, I’m going to be unimpressed as well. On this one point, because some of us committed money based on the promise, I think we should get some kind of word. I agree, if it’s not feasible, please just tell us so we can move on. As of today it is still advertised in the DCS store as forthcoming.

In VR the pilot body adds an immense level of immersion. Seriously, on numerous occasions I have moved my real arm or leg in order to reach a switch, thinking the pilots body will also move! It sounds stupid but it’s true. I’ve even tried to lean on the canopy sill of the Spitfire while leaning outside to taxi...

To attack the more obvious questions first, are you remembering to hold TDC down while slewing, and ensuring you have used sensor select right/left (depending on which DDI you are on) and verifying you have the diamond in the corner of the screen? I find I have to hit SSS left twice for some reason to get the diamond...

HOW TO CONVERT JTAC COORDINATES IN LONG/LAT
Sandman1330 replied to phil106ci's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
JTAC is giving you MGRS, or military grid reference system, which is more accurate than lat/long. In 10 figure format, it’s accurate down to 1 meter. The Hornet will have the ability to input waypoints in MGRS, it’s just not implemented yet. In the meantime, what I do is find the MGRS using the F10 map (use left alt+y to change the coord format in the map). For AGM65E, it’s sufficient to just look at the map then reference that to landmarks outside the cockpit and get a general idea of the target area, as the maverick will lock on the laser for precision guidance as long as you point it in the right area. When more precision is required, such as with bombs/rockets or when we get the TGP, once I’ve located the spot on the F10 map using MGRS, I will use left alt+y to change into lat/long and copy the coords off the map, then I put them into the hornet system as a waypoint. -

Also note that in order to lase he must give you a Type II (or Type I, though I’ve never seen this in DCS). A Type III he expects you to identify and engage the targets in your own, usually because he can’t see them, so you won’t get a lase. Based on your description of the radio items available to you, it sounds like he is giving you a Type III. -
Yeah, you have to switch modes once or twice after airstarting (switch to AIM120, AIM9 then back), then it works fine. Seems to happen less since the last open beta update though.

[REPORTED] Whatever happened to the shallows?
Sandman1330 replied to Lixma 06's topic in General Bugs
My understanding of Kegety’s mod is that it helps alleviate GPU usage, allowing midrange GPUs to run slightly higher MSAA or other settings without impacting FPS. I’ve never run it, as my bottleneck is CPU and I struggle to get full GPU usage as it is. I suspect with the beast of a system that you have, you’ll be in the same boat. Your 8700 has better single core than my Ryzen, but I’d bet it still struggles to feed your monster 2080ti. I think you’ll likely see very little gain from Kegety’s mod. Crank up those visual settings! -
I’m away from home until Tuesday, I’ll check how mine behaves when I get home. I honestly don’t use the mode switch at all...

LOL, happens to all of us, no worries :)

Actually the very reference you quoted says 150hr for heli CPL. In Canada it’s only 100hrs IIRC
