BUILDING NEW PC SEEKING OPINIONS
Gnadentod replied to ZQuickSilverZ's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That would be a proper X370/X390 chipset board with a 9700K/9900K, 32 GB RAM and a 2080TI, the cooling scales upward depending on how much cooling you want (overclocking or not and if yes how far?). You can run it with a machine under 4000$, could be better though (SLI setup). Will not be ideal but Pimax also has Brainwarp which makes it possible. Get the 5k+ over the 8K with only a single 2080TI, the 8K only outshines the 5k+ if you have the machine for it. There's really not much difference between them, but there is one. If you decide to not overclock your CPU then you can take a 280 or 240 radiator instead. If you decide on a 280 one get the EVGA CLC 280, this is what I'd buy. The ASUS Z390 boards don't seem to be the best this generation and pricerange because of its fake 8 phase VRM on the board. Look into a Gigabyte, MSI or ASRock equivalent. You only need 240/256GB of storage for a DCS-only plate, it doesn't fill up as of now even with a lot or all of the modules. If you're one of those getting every module and every map then stick to the 500GB, who knows how much space the new maps will take? You can actually install 3200 Mhz or even higher if the board supports it but you automatically overclock the memory controller on the CPU if you enable XMP (which activates the 3200 Mhz) which translates into more heat and likely also more voltage on the CPU = less overclock potential. If you don't aim for a high overclock it doesn't matter much in any case. Around 850W high quality PSU is good for this if you don't plan to have the possibility to build a SLI machine with it, 9900K pulls some power, the 2080TI also. A bit of headroom on these do rarely hurt. Taking faster RAM than the CPU is "designed" for puts more strain on the memory controller of the CPU and reduces overclock potential a bit. They can run higher RAM clocks than specified though. -
I don't know, can't say for sure. For me it is months out for getting the system and if it isn't implemented now they will have a look into it. They are or already have implemented fixed foveated rendering and brainwarp. These Pimax guys seem to actually understand things a lot faster than the rest, fortunately - or unfortunately. Isn't it something they look into it or did they tell people like: "we don't care about SLI"? I haven't read up on it (yet). But I have found these: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3753297&postcount=10 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=201454&highlight=SLI https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3408608&postcount=40 Let's hope they get it out fast and it can compete with the high end stuff of Intel. I'd be the first to buy a AMD system with new interfaces.

GTX 1070 and GT 1030 with 6 displays FPS issue?
Gnadentod replied to xoxen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The platform itself (chipset, RAM and CPU together) isn't the fastest either indeed. Try this. The screens for the GPU values do look weird to me because of the shared VRAM e.g. how is 2GB and 8GB = 16, 18 and 24GB VRAM (bottom left and one column right of it)? -

Go ahead but don't forget to put the whole context in it so people realize you can't articulate yourself like an adult. Only the whole story is the truth. Didn't you say "Context helps"? You did. You could've just admitted but now you give off these butthurt vibes. -

GTX 1070 and GT 1030 with 6 displays FPS issue?
Gnadentod replied to xoxen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Could you upload screens of data for the GPU(s) at best while testing the DCS scene you mentioned in the first post? VRAM usage GPU1 and 2, Utilization GPU1 and 2 and so on? The screen you posted is just CPU data. -

Oh boy ... let's examine this: No I am not, it seems you didn't read my previous post or lack the capacity to understand what I wrote. You don't even need to start that I did implicate that M2 cards can't use the AHCI protocol, which SATA3 interface uses, but I pointed out you didn't articulate yourself properly and not precisely and thus inviting people to misunderstand you. Because you don't express yourself precise enough. Both HDDs and SSDs can be SATA3, like I said, you had setup the dialectic with SATA3, not me. It's not about the advice in your intention, but about the fact that your advice wasn't precise enough and the best evidence is that I thought you were talking about HDDs, especially after naming such a low price. I am right with what I say. You tried to push it off as me being unable to understand you when in reality you are unable to express the thoughts you have in your head into the real world to get your intention across properly. People can't look into your head through the internet when you write on your keyboard or do you actually believe that human communication works correctly this way? Looking into other peoples heads? It's not about you having the comparison wrong in your head but you didn't express yourself precise enough so people can't "misunderstand" you in the first place mate. What you have in your head you gotta translate properly into the real world through your words for other people atleast it's still this way in 2019. SATA3 can be both SSDs and HDDs. I hope it's clear when I have now repeated this several times, it came across. -

Exactly, and the context was it which made me think what you mean by SATA3 storages because of this in your previous post #17: "I agree on the price point.. 970 Evo Plus can be had for $127USD for 500GB. Can't say I feel bad about that, even if I can get a 500GB sata III for like $70 or sometimes even less." $70 dollars is a bit low for a 500GB SATA3 SSD still but perfectly fine for a decent HDD SATA3 storage. Not saying you can't get one at this price but its still generally higher and more likely you meant a HDD SATA3. If you would have said you mean for 70$ on a sale that's a different story, but you haven't. No, SATA3 can be SSDs and HDDs, not M2 can be NVMe or SATA3 (storage). M2 can be AHCI or NVMe. You could've said "M2 cards can use the AHCI protocol which SATA3 coincidentally also uses". "Sorry that you seem to be confused." Arrogance? Maybe articulate yourself properly so people can't "misunderstand" you in the first place? M2 are the cards which get installed directly on your board while a SATA3 drive you connect with a SATA3 cable and is not installed on the motherboard directly through a PCIe slot. You setup the dialectic of NVMe versus SATA3 in your posts which doesn't exclude HDDs from the equation since they can run on SATA3 too and with the price point you mentioned for a 500GB storage it was even more likely you mean a HDD. -

Very true, I just didn't intend to push him or others too far when he didn't know yet that both HDDs and SSDs can be SATA3. It can really be confusing at first all this computer stuff. -

How important is bang for the buck for you? If a lot then build a Ryzen system with probably a AMD card and overclock it. If not a lot but still build the usual X370 or X390 chipset with 8700K/9700K, maybe 9600K or 9900K and overclock it. If you want best performance and money isn't really a concern for you for this setup then build a X299 Intel machine, get a second card for SLI and overclock it aswell. Which is it? Also the Pimax 5K+ and Pimax 8K are really worth looking into, Rift and similar are getting obsolete. Not 100% sure if it's different from the usual situation with Threadripper but with the current Intel for example they are declared as supporting 2666 Mhz but can run higher clocked kits once XMP is turned on in the BIOS. This on the other hand overclocks the memory controller of the CPU. But they can run higher clocks. Depends on the application you are testing it in but on average it's 25% stronger. Say 15 to 35% or rarely 40%. -
For VR multiplayer you obviously should get the best in terms of performance and visuals available right now, which is the Pimax 5k+ or Pimax 8K and you drive this with SLI in the best case. Get an EVGA X299 Dark since they are those who care about cooling of the motherboard and its components the most (which translates into the best overclocking results later for these kind of boards). Build a 7900X into it since it is 1) a CPU which supports usage of 44 PCIe lanes (for 2x full x16 PCIe GPUs, max potential). This combination gets you the most performance out of your SLI system because of the high amount of PCIe lanes and 2) the possiblity of running quad channel RAM to get more bandwidth. In this case you would need 4x8GB or step up to 4x16GB. Since you have a lot of PCIe lanes you can use a M2 NVMe SSD instead of a normal SATA3 one to its maximum speed. Considering the performance it hasn't a lot of advantage over a SATA3 (non M2) one (for DCS) but they are also the same price, so why not get the newer one. You will notice the full potential of this combination only once you get a second card for SLI, otherwise you can go the normal X370/390 chipset with dual channel ram anyway. This is about the best performance you can get right now for DCS VR. I intend to buy the exact same system in the near future.

GTX 1070 and GT 1030 with 6 displays FPS issue?
Gnadentod replied to xoxen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Besides the PCIe bandwidth story I just read yesterday that if you have two different cards working together their VRAM doesn't stack but both cards use 2x the smaller VRAM (or even only 1x the smaller VRAM which I doubt but is a possibility) and this could indeed be a nasty bottleneck because of the big difference between 1030GT and 1070 GTX. Edit: Which doesn't make sense if you consider the VRAM usage values you get to be 100% correct. SLI with two different cards isn't ideal in any case, even with these numbers I wouldn't dismiss the thought the smaller card is restricting the whole system somehow. -
It's alive and well, have a look into the Pimax 5K+ and Pimax 8K.
-
I'll get a setup like this because I'm quite sure it does work. I can't see a reason that it shouldn't work, only people complaining it doesn't and blaming ED for "not implementing it" which they don't deserve while they were just unable to buy the correct hardware for it or didn't even test it themselves in the first place. I've found a screenshot that proves that SLI works in DCS and also found posts of people who got it working in DCS with VR within some hours of research and these were without the best hardware for the purpose (they have Z370 or Z390 chipsets). Yeah, it's almost over for screens for DCS Simmers. No one should buy a new system for DCS and not get a Pimax from now onward other than for budget reasons. Not immediately hopping onto the Oculus hypetrain because it being first generation is and was the right decision for most but now it's a different story with the new HMDs already here (Pimax) or coming in.

Psht, don't make it too complicated. First let people see that SATA3 can be both HDD and SSD before you come with protocols.:book: -
Sure, makes sense. I don't know if you insist on buying only Intel or also get AMD but the new Ryzen series is around the corner and in about a year or in quarter four of 2019 the new Intel 10nm gets released which should get you a performance boost. I'd stay away from any 6700K to whatever newer Intel CPU upgrade before 10nm comes out unless you really have the money lying around right now. 1 year is passing fast.

you might get a PSU with a slightly higher wattage Yes you name it, almost. Correct, and as far as I can see no one claimed otherwise. So you recommend getting a power wattage you're aiming for when your system is on about 50% to 70% of load instead of taking one with more "headroom"? Is this is what you're implying? Correct. Read the thread again and you will see that I didn't name a specific number but I wrote and I quote: "... you might get a PSU with a slightly higher wattage". How is it wrong what I or anybody else recommended to him? I don't see it. Also you are agreeing with me because this is exactly what I said in post #31 number 4, without me naming a number. No he hasn't. How do you know if he will not buy a AMD card, wants SLI in the future or the new cards will draw the same amount of power or less? You can't look years ahead into the future do you? Otherwise it's stunning on how much you insist on your opinion considering the fact people recommended +100W on the PSU or a $$$ difference of literally 40$ on a 2500$+ machine. You're acting like people wanted to rip the thread creator of like 500$ and make him go buy a PSU with a power output way too high. It's ok to have money and spend it. CL30 knows what to do I guess.

Asus failed with this generation considering the highend boards. Look into EVGA X390 Dark, it just was released for sale outside the US, has real 16 phase VRM with cooling. With a good 8700K or similiar you might get a stable 5.3 with a healthy voltage if everything else is right. Or go build a AMD machine because I dislike Intels "market monopoly" but at the same time I want the performance for a future Pimax 8K setup, so go ahead with AMD. :music_whistling:

10/10. Like almost everywhere else in life you better buy "too good" than "too bad" for your peace of mind. Those buying the "big systems" now first are the last ones to upgrade in the next decade.
