Good one, tell me: how long do you must wait for it to arrive? What's written in the mail?
-
I didn't say it will still be the best then and none other come close. Do you need to upgrade if you now get a XTAL instead of a Oculus, Pimax or whatever? No, but with all these others headsets you can be sure. With the XTAL you're the least likely to upgrade, it's miles ahead of the competition as of now. It can survive atleast one full generation refresh by the others and even after that it is also unlikely their competition will reach in to those quality levels, think of the price. There's a reason the XTAL is so expensive, VR in general is already a niche market. You will not see Oculus, Samsung and what not making premium VR headsets. It will be top-notch longer than you might think. You can literally make an appointment with them or even visit them spontaneously if you are close by for testing the headset. Their door is open.

When you compare the costs of the XTAL against what it does cost you to be a fighter pilot in real life/get the chance to fly a supersonic jet in real life (edge of space flight in russia 16000$ for like 1 hour for example) then you will quickly find that the headset isn't as expensive as it's made out to be. Yes it is 5000 bucks as of now, surely less with a consumer version in a few months or so but when you put in perspective? It's really not too much. Especially when you see that you don't have to buy a new headset every few years. Will there be headsets which will be better someday than the XTAL? Probably yes. But do you have to upgrade "every 2-3 years" with such a headset? No, you only have to when you don't buy XTAL but an Oculus, Odyssey, Pimax and what not. If you build the "strongest" computer today it will last you longer than someone building a "medium budget" one so he has to upgrade earlier = same or nearly the same costs as building a strong one right from the start. Here it is the same - but you have the quality experience earlier than others. With the advancing of the peripherals for flight simulations today you can build a simulator so good you could take people from the street and give them a flight for 50 or 100 bucks, not kidding. Have a look at Bergisons G-Seat, DCS World software, the new flight sticks with pedals and throttle and finally a XTAL headset. This is pretty damn realistic, this blows the mind of average joe. You have to put in the money once and then you only have to turn on the computer and be able to fly from your home. All in all it is less than 9000 to 10000 bucks (with G-Seat; with XTAL) and from then it will cost you only internet and electricity per month.

Unveiling the VKB TECS Throttle Control System
Gnadentod replied to UIV's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
Consider the thought to only release the middle part of the throttle system (first), especially with VR on the horizon. The advantage of the whole system is diminishing the more time goes on since VR gets more ripe each week. You know it's true. -
10/10 points. Average people in terms of intelligence inflate their ego so much they think they are a genius. Our world in a nutshell. Go watch the video where he explains to you how the XTAL works and then you know why the image IS sharper than in the Pimax with the same resolution. It's not that the XTAL does something magic, it more like the Pimax team isn't as capable as the XTAL one - they made a product which is more efficient. The image IS sharper AND it costs less horsepower to drive it. Deal with it. And again, money is not the issue for the OP, so just let it out the discussion completely. It must blow your mind so much that "average folks" here on the forums are wealthy where most are "just nerds" right? Keep wasting other peoples time.

"Look at me! I don't like what you say even when you have evidence on your side, I just will not have a look at your conspiracy theories. It's my feelings which matter and not the universe ok???"

For the dude who felt offended by my letters on his screen, for whatever reason? - I'm so sorry! I hope you are fine.

The Motion Integrated G-Seat

Ok - it's time for (military) flightsims to get really epic. Bring it on. -
Sweviver does a XTAL video - this is a whole new level
Gnadentod replied to Kirin's topic in Virtual Reality
Maybe you get a glimpse if you watch the videos, the Sweviver one explains some things. Wrong, watch the video first. The XTAL has the best performance because it's the only one actually only rendering the displays resolution. Pimax for example renders a much higher resolution than it has advertised output. It's less like: "The XTAL developers have put some magic into their VR headset" but "Pimax is selling you crap in terms of picture quality plus performance". Either they really can't build it better or they do (did) it on purpose because they thought everyone thinks the Pimax is the non plus ultra and will buy their stuff anyway. -
Need advice on periodic maintenance
Gnadentod replied to ElCuco68's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Depending on what you already know about computer maintenance (or not) consider a fresh install of your operating system and then keeping it clean with something like WinOptimizer 2019 which is free. -
Sweviver does a XTAL video - this is a whole new level
Gnadentod replied to Kirin's topic in Virtual Reality
The XTAL seems to have a lot of modules coming with it which can be cut out for "gaming" purposes. Even if it "only" drops to 3000 or so it's worth it if you're passionate and serious. Like I said, with this you will not need any upgrades for quite some time while others have to pay themselves up to get better picture quality over years. It is available to the public. If you have the cash you can have it now. -

On a 9900K I would've go the water route but with 9700K not really (necessary). -
Sweviver does a XTAL video - this is a whole new level
Gnadentod replied to Kirin's topic in Virtual Reality
Said tech-youtuber also said VRgineers, developers of XTAL, plan on implementing foveated rendering. He didn't state if fixed foveated rendering or the "real" one. The XTAL itself also has eye tracking already (for the automatic IPD adjustment). Like most of the time - you get what you pay for. If you have one of these you can be sure to not need a "upgrade" for a long time while others are climbing up the ladder in terms of picture quality every 2 or so years. This will also cost them money which you don't pay then. This headset will separate the wheat from the chaff, the serious ones from the "casual". -

Damn I didn't know about this one, now you have showed me something mate ... over 5000 bucks. Yes, this might be the endgame already available. No need to wait years for the hardware or software to "evolve". Apparently the developers are planning to release a "gaming/consumer" version of the headset for the masses as heard from another tech-youtuber which met with them. -

I just underlined why Microsoft suddenly gave out a brand new OS for free = to get as many people as possible onto it. I don't know what you are trying to tell me though. Nevermind, have no intention to derail javelinas thread. ? -
The Motion Integrated G-Seat
Gnadentod replied to Bergison's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
He is working on a DIY kit for the seat so you can build it yourself. I'd also pay up to 2500€ for a finished one. -
Unveiling the VKB TECS Throttle Control System
Gnadentod replied to UIV's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
And this is exactly why post #323 and following made perfect sense. It remembers me when ED announced the EDGE engine literally years before it came out and kind of shot themselves in the foot being "too early" and teasing everyone but don't release it. -

Gnadentod replied to javelina1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Maybe. More likely just look for alternatives instead. I'm also not talking about the average people you can find on the street. For these it often is too exhausting to question the motives behind free stuff, especially from companies which are the closest to having a monopoly on computer operating systems right? -

That is like 5 years out, Windows 7 is epic and it's obvious to many what Windows 10 does is a bit too obvious. Especially when you ask yourself why they suddenly gave a new OS to everyone for free ... = get as many people to use it as possible. Migrate to a non Windows OS because a huge amount of people will decide against a Windows 10 spyware on their system and thus make Linux distros work for their games for example if they don't do it by now. Microsoft also might decide to not let support for Windows 7 end too soon if at all because they know they would lose a considerable amount of security aware users to the competition. As a last resort I will be forced to use Windows 10 for certain things and this makes it undeniable what's up isn't it? -
i7-8700K vs. i7-9700K, DCS VR, and the future with Vulkan
Gnadentod replied to Strikeeagle345's topic in Virtual Reality
I think I remember hearing somewhere that Vulkans "efficiency sweetspot" is 8 Threads / for 8 cores - so the 9700K would just fit right in. I doubt the difference is that big in the end but I'm sure there is a small one. -

Gnadentod replied to javelina1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
What do you need a "supported" OS (up to date 100% of the time) for a gamer rig for? You don't. Don't fall for memes if you don't have an "up to date" OS suddenly your computer stops working forever, it doesn't. We wish, atleast I really do. -

Case - Lian Li O11 Dynamic or Air version. Superb Airflow and visuals (not that I care for visuals on a computer but a lot do). W10 is spyware. Do you play ArmA3 EUTW mod? -

In non VR - yes. In VR - no, not now.
