Hey, a two bag F-15 with the radar mod + AIM-54s is a half decent Tomcat simulator!

Blackout/Redout automatic recovery protection?
Sweep replied to sc_neo's topic in Military and Aviation
You mean like this? Yep, auto-GCAS exists. Breathing appropriately helps, though. :P -
I think the fact that we're dealing with clean, head-on RCSs for all aspects is what's killing radar performance. There's a "scripts/database" file you can edit to increase the radar range (hint: same one with RCS values)...If you do it right, you're detecting Fulcrums at 100nmi and bugging at 80 like Eagles do IRL... ...Well, Eagles with MSAs. Crank the range setting if you want DCS: AESA Open Alpha. :D Public, airquake MP, yep. Not everything in MP is public nor airquake, fyi. ;)

That and Tacview...That'd be a great start.

Please teach me the basics of dogfighting in a multiplayer session
Sweep replied to a topic in Multiplayer
I'm kinda busy teaching this stuff to my comrades at 5e EVC right now so I can't do too much actual instruction...I can, however, spam links that might help you. -
1v1, yup. Sustainable doesn't necessarily have to mean sustained, either. :)

Simming the stealth fleet; a matter of time?
Sweep replied to proletariat23's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Higher res here btw: Off to the right side? That's just an indication of where the sensor is looking relative to the bore line. No, what you miss is a standard butterfly HA BFM setup. No BVR stuff. Example: Sources? More goes into air to air combat than straight up WVR. You can win WVR by winning BVR. And I don't mean killing from BVR. Anyway, ever here what pilots have to say of the F-16C B.30/50 and the F-22A? Amazing BFMers. But do pilots just go BFM each other all day? No. Awareness and coordination are more important than anything else. Ever listen to pilots talk about F-35s? F-15s? The things that they value aren't exactly "xddd I'm a rate fighter!" From what I've heard the F-16's inboard pylons are A/A capable but it isn't used or theorized about. Source is an F-16 pilot on the f-16.net forum. IIRC, he knew somebody that tried to get a "71-1" configuration certified or he was involved himself. IDK. Boyd/EM/classification - Ya got any of that there sauce? I wanna try some... :) A what? Like, a human brain? Or do you mean "Eddie" from Stealth? :megalol: And there wasn't even a kill in this fight...If the Raptor met the criteria he would've been called dead. -
There's a reason why I taped my G13 to the desk! :D

Those avionics tho'...Can't wait!

Thanks for clarifying your mindset! Makes more sense now. ;) As for Blue Flag - The first two rounds...Package cohesion, decentralized and competent leadership, well at least where Blue was concerned...I think the playerbase has changed quite a bit since then, unfortunately. It was a good transition for a lot of deathmatch-oriented types from TDM to somewhat realistic flying. And as for the 9X, yeah it's overhyped. It's good distraction from telling people how dropping contacts on the A/A radar modes works, though! (you have to hit the MFD Radar page reset button, as I remember)

These aren't AIM-7Ds you'd be getting! :P

Check the OP's linked post that ends in "230" "AA radar + Long range missiles" - well it doesn't have long range missiles, but it does have 2 kinds of MRMs...

(quote emphasis is mine ofc) This is wrong. Based in reality. Why? IRL, right now, Su-27s fly intercept with all R-27 variants, typically the short burn ones. They're facing aircraft equipped with AIM-120C5, C6, C7, and -120D. Is that unrealistic? No. In the 90s, you had Eagles with AIM-120A, B, and C3/C4 fighting MiG-29 9.12x that had AA-10A. Is that unrealistic? No. Is it inherently unfair to one side? Yes. Is AIM-9X vs anything WVR unrealistic? Nope. Although if you ask some it might be a fair fight. And that's quite a period correct weapon for most things...2003-present. Anyway, fairness and realism aren't the same thing. Realism isn't about making a fight easy or hard, it's really about fighting realistically. That is, for realistic goals, by (mostly!) realistic means, using a real mindset (e.g. "I don't wanna die!" vs "I WANT ALL THE KILLS!" or something). Weapons capabilities in the sim don't make your scenario more or less realistic, btw. Look at Blue Flag early on - Generally realistic, just extremely condensed battlespace among other things, right? They used modern and 80s weapons. Heck, they even tried WW2 for the same scenario. Didn't change much. ;) Why? Is it due to the fact that your MiG-21 makes you press 30 switches to do the same thing? Switchology realism doesn't give you scenario realism. AMRAAM shooters don't register as serious flyers to you likely because you're playing a flight game and not a simulation. Better yet, I could take a Hornet with 10 heaters and the HMD and go sneak my way into merges all day long and kill everybody...Now I have switchology realism because it's ASM, but do I have a serious element or scenario realism overall? Probably not. And just imagine this, realistically speaking, the APG-63 and AIM-120 combo is insanely mean. What we have now is easy mode...Not for the F-15 pilot, but for the bandit. :) I think you two are in agreement on that! Did you misread the quote? "(...) doesn't register in my book as serious flying in DCS, nor giving both sides the same plane types (...)"

CA's citing the same source, though. I avoid single source claims with air power. Especially something this recent and controversial. That's not even getting into supporting/rejecting what they're claiming. AFAIK, "R-27s have a 0.000000000005 Pk" has more credibility in that regard than this. :)

This is an unconfirmed report FYI. Edit: PM is quoting CNN - Who is CNN quoting? http://theaviationgeekclub.com/breaking-case-wondering-u-s-navy-super-hornet-squadron-shot-syrian-su-22-fitter-find-answer/?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=postplanner&utm_source=facebook.com That article? Which cites...Facebook? Okay, it also cites War Is Boring, but not for the engagement details in question! :P Anything else from the 20th on this? Edit II: 20th or earlier I mean.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
Sweep replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Hard work is still magical though isn't it!? :D -
Says who? The online, Call of Duty-alike stuff is a small minority in the community... Online requires a mindset change in general, not more balancing. For the record I agree with "Majinbot", a Su-27SM or, better yet, a Su-27S with R-77s is needed. I don't agree with the idea of balancing a simulator though. If we can't have a specific platform that would fill a realistic role, we need a stand-in for that platform. I've thrown Russian weapons and some other mods on an Eagle, in the past, and called it a modern Flanker replicator. You can't have perfection, so you have to do the next best thing...That's not balance, although sometimes the fix would be the same. ;)

Why not remove the player's marker on F10 while keeping the map itself? -

If extreme low level ambush CAP and fighter sweep profiles are all you know how to fly then DL/IRST are very useful. Otherwise, the DL is quite nice, but the IRST isn't as useful. As for the Mirage/530...It's a horrible radar/missile combo. Flanker/Fulcrum's best bet is beam drag and Rmin all the things. You'll not just defeat his missiles but probably kill his SA while you're at it. -
Is this a game or a simulator? Should a vpilot of any given platform give a rats rear end about balance at the development level (or any level...really...)? As for fighting...You can do a lot of fighting with modern weapons. 120s, X-rays, Archers, they should redefine how you do certain things and whether you'll do those things at all ever. The fight doesn't get easier, you just win/lose the fight earlier due to less obvious parameters.

Yeah maybe with the A/A-only alignment mode? Doesn't the full one still take 8 minutes? Pretty sure those "unaligned" Mirages are just Mirages with the alignment requirement disabled, as mentioned above. IIRC, some were doing that to simulate the stored/memory alignment option you'd have IRL. Wouldn't doubt that many just do it for gamey reasons however. Did I just read "R-77s in 1982"? Edit: And 120s? It took about 10 years for the 120 to go from that (82 was developmental test I think?) to service. -
Did my sarcasm detector fail or are you serious? I mean, a radar gimbal limit 9X shot is quite offbore. I wonder if you could uncage it on a lost/memory contact (like, lock, check outside gimbal limit...shoot? Hmmmmm)...

Re Growlers: "ALQ-218" :) There's some stuff about the ALR-67v2/3 being able to target for ARMs as well. Not much in the way of specifics though, as I recall. Would be one hell of a capability considering that the ALR-67 is standard, AFAIK, for all Hornet operators.
