Energy will save you from having to merge, though. Alternatively, energy can collapse the WEZ while you merge, so you can blow through...
-
If the merge isn't safe, why not reject it and extend? Losing SA on bandits within decision range is...Inadvisable. I'd try to separate before that happens. Especially against threat weapons I cannot effectively defend. And as for Russian stuff...Well, you're already trying to min range the AMRAAM, so why not do that with the AIM-9X? Nobody said this was going to be easy! :smilewink: Raptors just got the 9X IRL and still don't have JHMCS. They didn't need either of them, though they are certainly great things to have. Of course, the Raptor has sensors, stealth, and speed, all of which successfully offset the lack of HMD and HOBS heater. Now here's how that ties into the discussion: the Eagle in-game, when compared with just about every other platform, has high speeds and persistence at those speeds to offset other shortcomings. I can decide whether we fight or not fight, merge or not merge, with my throttles. I can *force* you to fight *my* fight.

Should the F-15C get JHMCS due to the F-18 getting JHMCS? ABSOLUTELY NOT! And all this AIM-9Xphobia is kinda silly...It's a great missile, sure, but there's definitely ways around it. Rmin-ing isn't quite impossible, and simply avoiding the merge is going to be really really easy. The Bug ain't running you down, after all. The Eagle could use an avionics update, but JHMCS isn't it. I don't think people understand just how off our sensors are in the DCS Eagle. There's a lot of capability you just don't have available. That needs to come first before any "nice to have' stuff like JHMCS/-9X/MIDS/whatever, but truth is that a lot of that would be in a DCS: F-15C module and not the FC3 one. And as for strike fighters getting things that fighters don't...Why did F-22As *just* get AIM-9X where Bugs/Vipers/etc. (not F-15Es though) have had it for 10-15 years? ;) P.S. Our Eagle is from 2000 or so, but it doesn't even represent an F-15A sometimes...-220s and NerfRAAMs aside.

Yeah I think it was the wing fuel tanks being dropped that caused the disconnect bug. The centerline is jettisonable without bugging. Tbh I think just the two wingtip heaters would be the best configuration, the F-5 is pretty good on gas, after all! Thanks again!
-
That's all good, dude. Protecting your work isn't a bad thing at all. And as for decoys...VEAO might find out with the Typhoon? That thing has towed decoys IRL, don't it? No idea if the one we're getting had them or if they can even put them in (due to game or other reasons). Yeah I really want TALDs or ITALDs or MALDs.
-
Why is the Eagle dead? I'll tell you why; because you aren't thinking about entering the merge the right way. Watch and learn...Also this is 1v1, and you probably don't want that...
-
On the ATFLIR, IDK about ETs...I mean, you should be eyes out and expecting the shot...But if you can zoom in enough it should give you an idea of the threat's configuration, which is helpful (I've done that pre-merge in the A-10, long time ago...). A/A TGPs for the win, though, no matter how ya use 'em. L16 track file-->Radar track-->ATLFIR handoff might be a fun thing to try, assuming you don't get masked in maneuvering and lose track! The APG-73 is a development of the APG-65 is a development of......The APG-63. APG-70s came from the -63 as well, after all. The Eagle's gonna have the bigger radar, BUT, it doesn't perform up to the expectations of some. So it should be on par in range performance. As for functionality and other things , who knows. Stuff like TWS memory or various radar submodes are just gone in the Eagle, so the Bug should have some better stuff in that regard. I'm looking at the App B stuff for the Eagle with -220s...Lol. Not to make it a complete urination contest, but the Eagle, at 40k, with 8 missiles and a bag (48,000lbs), goes Mach .8 to 1.5 in 180-190 seconds. That's standard day. Not sure where the Hornet is best at accelerating, though, in terms of altitude...The Eagle loves 36,000ft for that thing. :joystick: A lot of the fun SA tools (datalink/HMD/TGP) are great, but the core ability of taking your radar and the radars of your wingmen and putting them into one big picture...That's something that no amount of fun SA tools will make up for. You and whoever else ya fly with probably do that just fine (you talk like you can, at least!). Dunno about some randoms off the street, though. That's why I hope this stuff forces people to learn how to build more SA to use offensively. We all get cool stuff, people learn more about fighting other simulated aircraft...Sounds like a win/win to me! You want towed decoys? Go bark at Skate to make that Rhino flyable! Pretty sure they have ALE-50s...Don't think the Legacies do, though. :D

I feel like an expanded NTTR including more parts of the Western US would be great. That region certainly has something for everyone. But that's more a wishlist item than "what are they gonna do?", I suppose.
-
Yup. Tomcat's an interesting case for sure. There's a very easy solution to the APG-63 range stuff, btw. Increase the power or gain (I forget which)in the definitions and you can get a properly performing radar in that regard. Obviously, you're still missing modes and NCTR effective range (still 25nmi hardcoded). Detecting and tracking a tanker at 160nmi is fun. Personally, not yet...We need a core fire control suite that works well. Then add all the goodies in if you'd like. :D

Ban 'em, ban 'em all! :megalol:

We supposedly have the AIM-120C5 ingame, FWIW. Doesn't get much more modern than that. AIM-120C6 wasn't much IIRC, C7 was something like a new seeker, maybe? That was 2005-2007, I believe. So probably within timeframe. But do you want another NerfRAAM, that is the question. :D Edit: You might not get a new AMRAAM, but the Hornet definitely could use AIM-7P2s IRL. Those things sound pretty sexy from all I've read... And yeah, the Eagle's nav system is pretty basic in-game. Hoping BST's update in December '16 ("we will continue on an abandoned project" or something like that) was about the Eagle and ASM! That'd be so nice......TSD, a decent radar...Okay I'm done, back to reality.

I think the F-15C will remain relevant against the Typhoon, definitely. It's just going to make you work that much harder to win. Like a Flanker, almost, but a bit different. WVR will be exceptionally tough for the Eagle with good pilots on both sides. A proper Eagle would fix some things, but performance wise...Good luck. I think the Typhoon's only performance problem is very slow speed/high Alpha stuff. Hornet/Eagle guys should love fighting it slow. Otherwise, it goes high, it goes fast, it gets fast fast. I think VEAO figured out all that first time crap with module making, so it should be very interesting to fight. Slightly better acceleration is an understatement when you throw in payloads, I think. It's not that drastic. It's a ~3 year difference between AIM-9X/JHMCS and our Eagle, roughly. R-74s are, AFAIK, pre-IOC (if that...). Interesting comparison for sure. :P You're not firing AIM-120s radar off. AIM-120D and APG-63v3 might be able to do that, but not a C5 with older radars. Besides datalink and the enhanced TSD-style pages, there ought to be quite a few similarities, radar wise. The Eagle' radar underperforms, so if the Hornet's is done right they'll have some performance similarities. The Hornet should have much better functionality in some regards (e.g. AACQ modes) than what we currently have. That just might be a huge advantage for public PVP/air quake stuff. Aaaand this is the best point you could bring up. The Hornet will enable tactics for one side and force the other to use better tactics. That is the biggest thing with the Hornet and air to air, IMO. Make A/A Great Again! :megalol:
-
Could you check the F-5E airstarts (the "AIR" ones) at some point? I think they have 3 fuel tanks...Normally I'd just jettison them, but whenever I tried that on your server, I would get a connection timeout...Every single time! Thanks!
-
Yeah the Typhoon is going to be a huge threat for everybody, everywhere. USMC F-18 pilot on exchange with the RAF's Typhoons had some remarks about 1v1s a few years ago...Something like "The Hornet get's a chance at the first turn, then it's all tea and crumpets" And as for RCS...This one value for all angles/configurations thing is definitely going to make reduced RCS platforms an interesting challenge! Sarcastic one line response to a sarcastic comment. Just saaaaaaaaayin'. :D Data link is definitely nice. It makes killing the 1v1 air to air mentality just that much easier for the uninitiated, which is just perfect. ATFLIR ought to be cool too, but I think that really comes down to what other ID capabilities we'll get in the Bug...Like, do I want that pod or do I want an AMRAAM? The radar, I'd imagine, is somewhat on par with what we currently have in the Eagle, probably with more functionality for certain things. The range and stuff is important though for the Bug because your acceleration sucks, so getting a clear picture and getting the commit started from early on is a priority. More missiles brings a bunch of other problems. Look, mach 1.4, 1.5, whatever, that's great - How long does it take you to reach that? That's the problem. And that's where the Eagle will dominate the Hornet. Another thing here: Can you afford to go over the Mach? Do you have the gas to do it? That might be an issue too. Also, I'm typically operating under the assumption that the AIM-9X is completely unaffected by flares.

The necro'er's requests are not unreasonable, they're unnecessary. You don't need fancy crap to win against a Hornet. Get above him in altitude and Mach and watch him...Uhh, Bug...Off? No, Bug out! :D So about that AIM-9X: That DLZ is still collapsible. You can Rmin it, it's just very tough to do. Any mid-90s to early 2000s Eagle will kill the Hornet fine IMO. The current modeling should do alright because these fights are all kinematically driven right now (missile FMs! yay!)...A few mods to the FC3 systems would probably be the best compromise of realism, cost, and dev time. And as for balance...
-
As some kind of track breaking jammer? That'd be realistic...:( He does.
-
It'd be nice if there was no warm up time. So we could actually use Defensive ECM for Defensive purposes. Instead of "Look at me! I'm the Growler now!" Edit: Made a meme for that...
-
IIRC, yes.
-
Don't disable NWS or enable NWS maneuvering range. Just line up, roll, and try to be very gentle with the rudder. If you have to, you can use left/right stick to add slight rudder...Doing that at high speeds will roll the jet, but below 100kts you get very slight yaw movement opposite of stick direction.
-
9nmi Rmax, 8nmi Rpi, 7nmi Rtr/MAR. That's the AMRAAM DLZ for medium altitude/transsonic...Go faster/higher and you'll get a few more miles out of it, but not much...
-
Engage attitude hold then altitude hold and see if that works.
-
Your fav tactics against Su-27 in a merge ?
Sweep replied to PrototypeBayu8's topic in F-15C for DCS World
That sucks! Good to see you're back in the sim, tho'. -
Thanks but no thanks. Disagree with the emphasis on "possibly" - They want it, we want it, it's just a question of "can it happen". Working towards developing the module is still some form of working on it, isn't it? :P

Good things come to those who wait. In addition to the F-15C that BST is working on, RAZBAM is doing the E.
