  1. One thing I've found that really helps me a lot, other than just doing a reset is to use RAMmap and empty the standby list.
  2. Found the issue, it is windows caching stuff in RAM, and wasn't releasing it like it should.
  3. http://www.dell.com/support/article/uk/en/ukbsdt1/sln156899/hard-drive-why-do-solid-state-devices-ssd-wear-out?lang=en Dell seem to agree, and it's only 5 months old 2017....
  4. We'll have to agree to disagree on that, if you're not maxing out your available RAM then the system should not write to the swap file at all, and as you said you have 32, and the current build is only using about 11.... So it should not need it, and any writes to any SSD will wear it out, it's just that with modern SSD's they've built in measures to reduce the rate.
  5. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm really surprised about needing a swap file if you have 32GB though, like you say it's typically using only around the 11GB mark with the current build. Also as I said, I've only been seeing this since the last couple of updates. I'm starting to wonder if there is an actual fault somewhere in my system.
  6. Well for one, it's not needed, the page file should only be used if you're running out of RAM, and you're effectively wasting HDD space, it's basically of no benefit to you.
  7. Well I have 16GB of RAM, I was thinking something is sticking around in RAM when it should have been cleared, the thing is this has only started happening since a couple of updates back.
  8. Also I'd set your temp folder, internet temp folder and download directory to a platter too, to save writes to an SSD.
  9. I'd manually set it on a platter drive rather than an SSD and considering the amount of RAM you have I'd set it at no more than a couple of gig. You don't have to have it the same size as your RAM, and there are some tricks you can use to manage it a bit better. If you have plenty of RAM you don't really need a page file at all, except that some applications, especially older ones like to see it. In that case you can trick them by setting up a RAM drive, and setting aside a couple of gig as a drive and use that entirely, the advantage is it's as fast as RAM, because it IS RAM, and that your system still has a page file, so applications are happy.
  10. Didn't help, seems only a reset sorts it.
  11. I don't know what other people have been seeing WRT the performance issues, but I've found that if my system has been running for a while if I try to use DCS I get low frame rates, but if I restart my system and go into DCS it's smooth as silk. I was wondering if this is a software issue, or if anyone thinks it could be something faulty on my system. Seems weird because no other games/applications suffer from this.
  12. Thanks :)
  13. Any chance of getting the E model? Could be quite useful for stand off against a FAC designated target.
  14. Make sure you use the FAC-Engage Group command in the ME, not Assign Group.
  15. Thanks :)
  16. What folder, also will it cause problems with multiplayer, I'm running a stock 2.5beta install, and I don't want kicking from servers just because I'm running skins.
  17. Su-22, or Su-24.
  18. I don't think it would be as hard to do as you think.
  19. If its an aircraft like say the F/A-18 that's easy, in the Harrier for example you select the sidewinders or the cannon in A/A mode, then it wouldn't be hard to do it based on that.
  20. If would could treat the current Normandy map as like a baseline map, and then add modern airfields in in the ME, we would in effect have the ability to turn it into two maps. There are plenty of old abandoned WW2 airfields in the South of England and Northern France to this day. I'm not saying we would turn it from WW2 to a modern representation by default, but that mission builders could choose to do so if they wanted, it would make that map more usable by modern jets, by having more suitable runways.
  21. If we use a helicopter like say an OH-58 as an AFAC, it should face the direction of what ever it is designating, at the moment it does what it wants.
  22. We really could do with having the ability to tell a helicopter to hover over a point at a specific altitude and heading until or if a condition is met. I was thinking it would act like the option to tell them to land, where a line with the triangle marker is used to specify the point.
  23. At the moment we can set them up as FAC engage group, but we can't specify a unit in the group, since sometimes you want to hit a specific target first. There are work arounds, such as setting up multiple small groups, and then setting up user flags to enable/disable FAC actions as you work your way through them, but it would be better to have the ability to specify units.
  24. Good idea, also context sensitive snapping would be good, if there are a lot of switches in close proximity and you happen to be in say air to air mode, you don't want to be snapping to say the selector for bombs. If it was implemented it would have to be able to be enabled and disabled by the user.
