  1. It's the lock tone that probably alerts them, besides the AI loves flaring. I've seen it flare through turns where I never ever had a firing solution on the target.
  2. Thanks for the link to the reading material Hadwell! Cool movies once more as well!!
  3. I know this question has probably been asked before, but what is the best way to get to grips with fighting in the MIG-21? I've had a dable in multiplayer with it, so far without success and have been going up against AI aircraft, but I mostly need more practice with defensive flying. Unfortunately the manual is rather sparse on this, I do remember there being several guides online on modern dogfighting. What is all applicable on the Mig 21?
  4. Nice video's! Although at one point someone mentions slewing the radar cone up and down, and you can't do that in the 21, it has a fixed Sapphire radar system, although it can angle up a bit with the low altitude flying mode to get some of the clutter out of the way.
  5. Have you tried using the R-3R SAR missiles instead of IR missiles? I've had a much greater succes against targets that arent very hot(Hercules, SU-25, etc) with SAR then IR. Besides, the SU-25 is quite agile in the vertical without a armament load, especially if flying abeam on you. I would recommend not going into a turn and burn fight with them, but firing the selected missile type to consequently after burn away from the target before they get a chance to engage defensive against you. EDIT: Will give your mission a go and see how I fare against the honourable frogfoot.
  6. So, is there any special trick to using the retarded bombs, been trying them out but sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I have the Sapphire in Locked Beam Mode so the piper gets an accurate measurement, flying low level and releasing when the pipper is on target. Sometimes I get a succesful hit, sometimes the bomb is way off. I really feel a bit foolish that I cannot figure this out! Excellent video's as well, gives me a good idea on how the bombs work and what the result is!
  7. And did you? There's something fun with how fast this thing can climb. The whole world feels a lot smaller at Mach 2 :)
  8. Very well made! Besides, all the emergency's in the 21 end up in ejecting anyway as the final step!
  9. Also make sure the mouse is not in click-mode, where you can flip switches etc. It should be so that if you move the mouse you move the view.
  10. Possibly the training yes, but the medical will quite likely have to be renewed in the country you are flying in, so it won't be worth the trouble in the long run. Contact a medical center that certifies pilots for their medical checkup and contact a local flightschool. They will be able to inform you infinitely better and are up to date with the specifics on local regulation. Since you mentioned Europe, many things are EASA certified but medical checkups for GA are usually left to local regulations.
  11. Read both the autopilot articles and the trimmer article found here: http://www.simhq.com/_air13/air_429a.html They are most excellent in explaining how the autopilot functions and what its purpose is in the helicopter!
  12. The UH-1H uses a gas-turbine engine as described in the engine section of the manual, the Cessna C-172 is piston powered, so no they are different engines.
  13. That sounds very likely, I've been flying on the TAW server the most, the 104th mission for the Huey is in most cases extremely difficult if you don't have a KA-50 with you!
  14. The gun aiming can be done in two ways, it can be slewed to the mouse, so that if you move the mouse you will aim the gun of the current position you are occupying, this is done with the following option activated: Options > Special > UH-1H > TRACKIR AIMING The second option is the same control set that you would use to slew the shkval, I haven't found them in the control options yet but the manual does mention them, this is taken from the official manual:
  15. The huey has quickly become my favourite module as well, although The Shark will always hold a dear spot in my heart just for the sheer hell it can raise anywhere it goes!
  16. Are you sure all the switches at the top are in the correct position(AC Phase, ESS Bus, Inverter off, STARTER GEN, BATT ON, etc)? Basicly use the quick start guide start up procedure found in the docs folder of the UH-1H. Not sure how to post the track here, I know you can do a quick mission generator thing, do the start up as you are used to. quite, save the track on that screen and then copy it from a folder. I think the folder is located somewhere in My Documents/DCS, last time I checked. EDIT: Saw you fixed it, ignore my post...(The answers pop'd up after I responded).
  17. The ...Leopard mission(Forgot the full name) lacks ammunitions or the staff to resupply the UH-1H in the most northern FOB(Dallas I believe). I tried it multiple times yesterday. One first has to fly to the airfield south west where all the other ground attack aircraft spawn and then fly back up again. Not a big problem but it adds some time to the mission, and gets cumbersome once one gets shot down. I believe the FOB was on the Blue side that were deep into russian territory and were at risk of being flanked, according to the mission briefing.
  18. HYD loss is not disastrous since you still have some control, I would try and do a skidded landing at 40 to 60 kts. A oil leak will cause the bearings to either grind or overheat in the gasturbine engine, which might cause a fail sooner or later. The best you could do in that case is always be in a state to execute a auto rotation.
  19. I think it also has something to do with that many people are not programmers by trade and thus library's and using them are not a native concept to them. On the otherhand, if that is true then it's a massive compliment to your work!
  20. Odd, I can score pretty much hit 100% of the time from that range in a hover. Anything else you might have changed in the vikhr settings?
  21. Fifou, in what sort of position are you firing if you miss below 3KM, quick movement?
  22. I finished all the switches, rotary's, potentiometer. 99% has been checked to function as well. https://github.com/SirWigglyBottom/DCS-BIOS-KA50 I am now working on the exporting bit of the data(radio's, gauges, indicators etc.).
  23. Ah excellent, that makes perfect sense! I suppose I should break some things on purpose to test that.
  24. Will do! That explains it I suppose. Not a lot of love for the Ka-50 around! I'll make a thread soon, I need to setup GitHub first. Interesting, I've been using the changes in the Ka-50.json to confirm the lua code was valid and then test it in-game by sending UDP commands but this seems much easier! Any dangerous pitfalls/advice I should adhere too? So far it's been pretty smooth sailing.
