  1. The glass is half full...sometimes!
  2. Full power on take-off is just not necessary and you want to be below 200 kph anyway to get the gear up quickly. Nice and easy throttle progression with a quick two step does the trick and it goes straight down the runway. Lovely little mover she is.
  3. Yes, because Normandy is a third party developer product it will be up to them to perform the optimization in order to generate this anticipated improvement in VR performance. I hope that they can be encouraged to do so.
  4. For other sim platforms they have done very good work and it is a surprise to me how much they have left undone and incomplete here. It's a shame but they may get back on the case, at least I hope so.
  5. More of a long term goal, they are just not there yet with the technology to bring such a product to the consumer market.
  6. You don't need full landing flaps either, you can set partial flaps and the landing is much nicer. Real life pilots don't seem to use them at all.
  7. You will be waiting some time for the tech to catch up with that expectation in a consumer level product.
  8. Remember that the Reverb does not sport as wide a FOV as Pimax. It's strength is concentrated in 1st gen FOV and very high resolution. Swings and roundabouts.
  9. :beer:I find your optimism and faith in humanity so utterly inspiring my friend.
  10. Hello Reddog, I do understand how frustrated you feel and I sympathise with your position but we are more likely to achieve something, as opposed to nothing, by engaging and making a solid argument. Disengagement invites the reciprocal response from others.
  11. Come on ED. We know that you subcontracted out the development of the Normandy map to Ugra-Media but everyone who bought the map did so from you and it seems somewhat disengenuous to palm off the responsability for updates and service packs. Of course the original developers are the ones who would do it but surely, you will require it of them to do so.
  12. A Polish fellow that I work with did his army paratrooper training out of one of these.
  13. I think that we do have to accept that ED are doing what they can after having the WWII project dumped in their laps, so to speak, after the infamous Luthier did a smart 180 about turn. This project was taken on by them perhaps somewhat reluctantly but they are committed to it and we should acknowledge that. There is a lot about the map of Normandy that attracts criticism and rightly so. The collection of aircraft that we have is not optimal by any stretch of the imagination but it is a constant work in progress and considering that it was never ED's intention to roll-out such a project themselves and they could have simply shelved it, what we do have is workable and provides something of an environment for us to enjoy. Better aircraft will appear down the line, Thunderbolt and Mosquito to name but two and the Me262 also. It's a sandbox after all.
  14. Pimax is opening up its propriety software to the community, making it now Open Source software. This will greatly open up many avenues of development and should strongly enhance the Pimax platform.
  15. Yes, I very much have that feeling too and I think it represents the desire that guys, who have a limited time available to participate, to get 'down to brass tacks' straight away rather than involving themselves in the full spectrum of a mission's activities. Certainly, I prefer the latter but the pursuit of the former manages to quench the thirst of those more time limited individuals. So the solution must somehow involve making it more dynamic and stimulating to occupy oneself in the complete flight from startup to shutdown, as you do in your videos. I can see the ethos behind Storm of War clearly myself but how you portray that vision is the critical factor. I think the essential quality of mulitplayer is teamwork and squadron effort but unless exposed to these elements then many new virtual pilots simply assume that it's dogfighting prowess that is the pertinent factor. Perhaps a sign of our times Phil. Your work is a beacon of optimism for myself and I am sure there are many others who feel likewise.
  16. We don't really know anything about this anticipated VR optimisation, except that it is do to with the way in which the terrain engine works and Wags calculates that for VR users it has a 50% improvement. That may also translate to some unspecified improvement for monitor users or it may have no effect at all. We have to wait to find out mate.
  17. Hello Phil At times it must seem to you that you're a bit of a John the Baptist character, crying in the wildnerness, but if you build it right then the people will come. You are doing a great job, personally I watch all your videos and appreciate how you help others to gain further accessibility into the world of warbirds. You're not alone in this and I would love to be able to take advantage of the SoW server 24/7 as I have an unusual day/night shift pattern that enables me to do so. Please keep it going mate Euan c/s 'MadDog'
  18. Lovely work mate. It's a great start and you don't even have the template yet. Well done and an interesting use of the little donkey historically.
  19. It's great to see that there are big improvements on the horizon. With great hardware we will soon be able to have a super smooth VR experience on high-end settings within DCS. This is the promised land that was first envisioned 3 years ago on initial Vive/Rift releases.
  20. Looks like this is particular to Pimax only.
  21. Yes, the force is strong with this one. Such a simple little tractor but what a super fine simulation and it's still only Early Access. Well happy:thumbup:
  22. I believe that the starter flywheel could be manually spun up like with the normal field start for the Bf109 and this pull lever on the starboard cockpit wall is to assist in that. If we had ground staff maybe they could use the flywheel crank handle that perhaps was stowed somewhere.
  23. I remember reading your threads years ago, in other sims too if I am not mistaken. My timezone is GMT but because I work both day and night shifts and have a good number of days off too, 5 shifts on and 5 shifts off, I can work around other people's schedules. I am currently awaiting the build and dispatch of my new system, as in the signature. Once I get that up and running within the next few weeks then I will be seriously into building up a group. VR/non-VR with experience or without it doesn't matter as a crew learns together. Currently I run a Discord server, called 'Come Fly with Me' as in Frank Sinatra's hit. I will be moving to my own TS server with the new build. I will include the permanent link to the Discord server here and you should feel most welcome to drop by and say hi. https://discord.gg/DpbspPC Would be great to meet up and fly anything, I love all the warbird types. I run a nice Spit/Mustang training mission too if that is to your taste. Over the next couple of days I am at home and flying a lot.
  24. Welcome back mate! I am loving this new module too and will be looking to find like minded chaps to make up a Red Five aerobatic group, an emulation of the thirties Soviet Airforce's KRASNAYA PYATERKA. Anyone interested? I use VR exclusively now, not very good for combat as spotting is an issue but for formation/aerobatic work it's the dog's rollocks...
  25. Hello mate, yes I am well aware of that little aid that the developer included. Part of the satisfaction with this aircraft is the smooth application of the complex routine involved in undercarriage deployment and retrieval. I don't use any assists or aids with flight sims as I prefer to get as close to the numbers as I can. That is why it would be a great boon for enthusiasts/nerds like myself to have the option of using toggle switches for each of the 4 functions involved. It's all about immersion when using VR.
