Very much my line of thinking. I have the CV1 and no controllers, I just use it for virtual flying. If Reverb can do that in spades then it suits me.

Buying this cute little thing just to support new dev
Euan Emblin replied to power5's topic in OctopusG
The An-2 was in use by various military establishments during its history. -
Thank you for this work, I look forward to OctopusG enabling the kneeboard so checklists can be used within VR too.

Hello OctopusG This is a request to include a few toggle switches especially for the complex undercarriage arrangement which I am loving getting to grips with. In VR I have to stick to my HOTAS and it would really assist people like me to have the gear lock and gear brake switches as a toggle on/off. Thank you for your consideration.

I am enjoying learning this iconic aircraft type. I would love it if there was the livery representing The Red Five Soviet Aerobatic display team of the mid-thirties.

Spitfire Mk.IXc EN398 of Johnnie Johnson
Euan Emblin replied to Reflected's topic in Spitfire Mk. IX
From The Spitfire Site - http://spitfiresite.com/2010/04/johnnie-johnsons-spitfire-revisited.html we have the following extract - A peculiarity visible on the photos of EN398 is the patch of fresh paint between the roundel and the forward “J”, apparently a sign of some repainting. It could have been a fresh application of Ocean Grey – as shown here – or some other colour, perhaps grey-green primer. A Canadian Maple leaf on a white circular background was carried on both sides of the fuselage under the windscreen. Its colour has been a matter of some controversy. In his memories, Johnson stated that the the leaf on his aircraft was green. However, all the Canadian squadrons of the Kenley wing had this national symbol painted in red. Was green the conscious decision on the part of Johnnie to underline his British origin, or did the memory fail him on this rather small detail? Perhaps we will never know. I have chosen red for my profiles. It is known that “Johnnie” customised his aircraft. Like many other aces, he ordered EN398’s guns to be harmonized according to his personal preference. Judging from the photos it would also seem that the circular rear view mirror was attached to a modified, taller mount. -
Spitfire Mk.IXc EN398 of Johnnie Johnson
Euan Emblin replied to Reflected's topic in Spitfire Mk. IX
I remember seeing a video of Johnnie talking at a club long after the war in which he described the aircraft that he flew and he did say that it had a green maple leaf on the side. If I can find a clip I will post it. -
This is very promising. I currently run the Rift and have to dial down on quality as we all do. I am scoping out a new VR ubermachine and am looking at the Asus OC'd Strix 2080 Ti with 32 Gb RAM. Would you more experienced guys go for i7 9700K or i9 9900K for the CPU? I know DCS does not benefit really from HT and only uses a couple of cores. The i9 runs hotter and I intend to overclock the CPU to over 5 GHz so that is an important consideration. Please feel free to weigh in! Looking to get the HP Reverb too, unless the Valve Index is a surprise.

Hello everybody This is an interesting discussion. As an avid long term high end flight sim enthusiast the revelation of VR has been a total game changer. I have had a CV1 Rift for nearly 3 years. Love this product which Oculus would have struggled to bring to fruition without the FB millions. Fact which doesn't buy never ending loyalty. With the Rift S FB/Oculus lay a foundation for a sounder business footing with which to build future market share, resulting perhaps in a future high end HMD that will knock the socks off all the competition. That's their concern not mine. Pimax or HP are the high end peformance leaders currently. Makes sense to go with one of them for my next purchase. Will decide over the next 6 months. If and when a new Rift pulls me back into their fold with their kickass uberalles wundermachine I will be happy to reacquaint myself with their product. We are the consumer and our choice is always right for ourselves. Brand loyalty is much overrated.

I can well understand McPetterson's anguish over the Spit IXc's lack of ability against the Axis variants in the sim. Shame that VEAO had to do like Ilya Schevchenko and walk away as they were working on a Spit Mk XIV and this would have provided a nice comparison to the two different Spit variants. The Spit we do have is what was called the Spit Mk IXB when it first came out in the summer of 1942 and it sure helped No 64 Sqn combat the scourge of the Fw 190. With the Merlin 66 our Spit variant matured. I love flying it, only in VR now, and for me it's the finest rendition of any Spit in any sim. DCS have made good on their promise and will continue to do so in regards to the WWII project that they took over from the disgraced Luthier. Well done to them and a big thank you. In time the Allies will get better aircraft to match the uber machines that the Axis can field. Something to look forward to but in the meantime, let's enjoy the flying.

Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk Inspired Skin
Euan Emblin replied to Wrench's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
I think the reason why they are often said to be not 109s is because they carry a RR Merlin and only started to fly after the war. Hitler never kept his promise to supply DB engines to the Gustav airframes gifted to Franco. Having to accomodate the Merlin meant the cowling shape had to be enlarged and stretched, making it decidedly un-Messerschmidt like. -
Yes, the systray was where I was going wrong. I had exited from the program, not thinking that it had to be running for its effect to be felt. Thought that the program itself was writing to a config file. Once I have it running then it works as required. Many thanks for that heads up.

Having difficulty with resizing and moving the kneeboard. I can load in my custom kneeboard without issue but however I edit the utility I cannot change the position or size of the default board. Any ideas?

Yes, my approach exactly. BoS/BoM in VR has been a revelation, the implementation, optimisation and performance is excellent and puts the 'me' back into immersion.

Taxi with the Spitfire is a PAIN!
Euan Emblin replied to Crash *'s topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
If you think the FM is finished more or less, then you're very much mistaken. There is still more development to go and the current behaviour does certainly not match that of the many pilots who write in detail about it. That as much as anything else tells me that it's not finished. -

Euan Emblin replied to Crash *'s topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I remember that he said the control forces inputs are not yet sorted which accounts for the taxi and take off/landing difficulties. These aircraft were designed around the average pilot so he could fly without getting into interminable difficulties through normal flying routines. Taxiing for example should not include much brake input but that is what is required in this model at the moment. Take off/landing don't allow you to have correct authority in the rudder where it would have been expected. These issues are quite normal in development phases, we saw the same thing in the 109. -

I think the Take Off assist is a good way to help people through the Early Access period when control inputs are only partially developed in the flight model for the aircraft concerned. Once you're off the ground then you're on your own anyway. Especially for inexperienced virtual pilots attempting to get into a beta FM aircraft such assists as rudder and T/O are a benefit. Clearly they don't teach you the right things that you need to develop to take off in that aircraft but then again we don't have that aircraft yet to take off in. When we have the full FM, it is certainly the time to turn everything off and learn the right way. -
Taxi with the Spitfire is a PAIN!
Euan Emblin replied to Crash *'s topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
You need to remember that not all things can be done in a day. You're flying what is in effect a prototype of the original. Some aspects are as they should be and others are either not yet implemented or just plain not right. That is what early access is all about. The last update fixed a lot for the Spit but there still remains the control input forces for the rudder which is why you have unusual difficulty in taxi and landing routines, as there is insufficient control authority coded in for the rudder control surface at the moment. Patience, as all will be alright on the night. I am enjoying flying the Spit as she is and I know that she will only get better as her control surfaces become harmonised in future updates. -
I very much doubt that - the lenses, frennel or otherwise, will be a very specialist item. An individual's prescription lenses are also unique to that person, I don't see Oculus incorporating an adjustable focus lens to accommodate those that need glasses.
-
I am short sighted and so got the VR Lens Lab CV1 inserts. I need to clean them regularly but otherwise they are excellent. Easy to fit in and take out they provide the corrected vision that my glasses would otherwise give. They do not touch the Oculus lens as they sit inside a thin frame. Special coatings are available, info on their website.

I think this is very doubtful. We were informed of the likelihood of clipped wings in the final release as an option but I don't see them moving away from the universal C wing and changing the armament.
