  1. I'm trying to learn about project lasso now! Downloaded and watching a few vids about how to use it. I used it on my old computer trying to get rid of the steam background flashes but without much luck! I set DCS and BOS to high performance mode. So I should just select the CPU affinity and when playing DCS set it to turn off 4 cores and leave two open? Well I tried this and computer didn't seem to like it even got some background flashes on 1.8 but it may just have been a sudden spike from fiddling with the settings! Seems to run much better on multi core though! I put all my windows processes on one core and allocated the rest for DCS. Do you thing considering my temps don't generally go above 40 degrees there will be plenty of head room for a bigger OC in the future?
  2. My temps at least according to AI suite 3 don't seem to be rising above 40 degrees when playing DCS. Do you play DCS with group tuning or just one core by the way? I thought I heard someone say DCS only uses one core anyway?
  3. Forget it man found it sorry I'll stop haunting you now I've found a guide! Again thanks for the help!
  4. How exactly do I turn the profile on and off?
  5. Nah I don't want to push my luck that sounds fine especially for now! I have boosted the fan to turbo and I suppose I could set it to its highest settings if you think it would help temps? Do you think its a safe/stable overclock reaching that max temp? I mean I don't now when gaming how often and for how long it would reach that temperature. The temps now idle are at 25 degrees... By the way in order to get these optimizations/overclock does Ai suite need to be running or will it have altered the computers settings to always run at these clock speeds now? Thanks a lot for the help man that was pretty easy! Downloaded 'core temp' will keep an eye on in game temps!
  6. Well I’m not sure what to make of the test results (not even sure they are the test results haha) could you maybe have a look and tell me what to make of them?
  7. should I ignore all the different settings such as the stress test distribution sliders, enable overheat tolerance etc. Cause I don't really understand them!
  8. Is that the 5 way optimization button to start total system optimization?
  9. Thanks man! Are the coffee lakes as overclocakble with only tower CPU coolers and not water? To be honest I'm just running a simple XMP at the moment. I tried an auto overclock in the bios which improved things by 30 percent but then crashed the system, so I have either lost the silicon lottery, have a poor cooler (PC seems positively cold!), or I don't know what the hell I am doing (most likely). I didn't even realise it was an overclock at first, I just simply selected gaming mode and then selected tower CPU. Is it perhaps a voltage problem? One thing though I think that 3Dmark is good for is stress testing, you can still fail the stress test with an unstable system score without your computer actually crashing or showing any signs of trouble. The benchmark will show that its got a great score but it will still be an unstable system. Not sure if it really matters that much, but its interesting to know that there's a grey line where your computer might not be crashing due to an overclock exactly, but that doesn't mean its not throttling or slowing down under stress either! Tried 1.8 last night and the missions are now immensely playable! At first I thought it was running a bit weird but then realized I had both steam and in game SS on. So I removed the steam SS and it was just perfect on a very heavy mission. I'm going to forget about all these benchmarks and overclocking now, and just be happy with what I've got until the performance in game actually tells me I actually need some improvement!
  10. Well I didn't buy the new rig solely for DCS to be honest! But maybe you're right!
  11. Are they not different tests though? Are all tests equal? For example this guy (https://www.3dmark.com/fs/12515014) got a waaaay higher score than mine 'better than 98 percent' and I was thinking how it that even possible but then I realized his test was a different one to the one I used. Anyway I don't know, this is why I don't like using FPS counters and benchmarks as now I start worrying that my GPU is a loser lol! All I know is in DCS it runs great, and I can now actually play the game! Even on the test I took though there were people with 4x SLI's OC'D and ridiculous scores of about 40,000! Have been able to get my test score to 9320, but I don't know what that really means, though I haven't overclocked anything yet!
  12. I don't seem to have the orange or blue room though am pretty new to all this so perhaps am missing something. I bought mine off steam is it possible we are using different versions with different benchmarks? The one I ran is called time spy extreme. You could run that one, if you have it, and compare the score to the one above.
  13. OK, I will get on it tomorrow! A bit late here at the moment!
  14. Well not sure if this is what you wanted Boris but I bought 3Dmark, and tested my system and the basic results/score are attached. I think if you run the same test (I used the 4k test which 3D mark selected automatically for me) and check your own scores it should give you a pretty good idea of what's what. How that all translates to a game like DCS though I'm not sure, as apparently DCS cant make full use of our systems anyway...
  15. Can I ask you a question... When you are on the mission editor map screen and you use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out are you getting a lot of flashes?
  16. Aha! Right that's what I was looking for! Have saved both to a separate file. Will copy over the new ones should an update occur and hopefully... Thank you good sir!
  17. I really hope so! Or at least that they improve the color saturation in the non DS game, as it looks so washed out these days I do most of my flying at night now! Sad that we don’t seem to be able to alter the digital vibrace in the control panel either anymore with a HDMI cable and this will now only affect DCS with deferred shading. Any news on how much longer for 2.5? Should be a matter of days now no?
  18. Well deferred shading is still a no go with MSSA! Its a shame but cant say I'm surprised!
  19. Well as the OP can demonstrate my intention never was to get a new graphics card, I strongly suspected the GTX 980Ti was of less of a factor than the CPU I was using and to be honest its a shame I couldnt have controlled myself better and tried the new CPU with the old graphics card. But you know how it is! Many people told me to just get a 1080Ti and that CPU didn't make any difference but I really do feel that the awful steam background flashes that I was getting in VR/DCS and other games were nothing to do with my graphics card, but my CPU. Alot of people told me those flashes were CPU related. Again though were talking stock speeds. I think the I7-4770 was for me kinda like the equivalent of the GTX 970 for VR, entry level, but frustrating as it was so tantalizingly close but not quite there. The reason I upgraded was really because I was flying VR but in my heart I just didn't feel happy with it, the little niggling frustrations were like mental splinters and just spoiled things for me. I think you will know in your heart if this is the case with your own performance but again it kinda depends what you plan to do with DCS. I really hope I can play the main SP game now without any problems as that used to be unplayable with my old system!
  20. To be honest I don't have any benchmarks from my old system with which to compare the new, and my old CPU wasn't overclocked like yours is. Might sound crazy, but I generally try to avoid FPS counters as they tend to turn people OCD, and make them spend more time worrying about the numbers than just enjoying the game. What I can say so far is the difference is huge! I was dreading it not really being that much better but no it really is fantastic. 4x MSSA and 1.5 pixel density which would have been almost unplayable (I have never used such settings before except to test) before is now basically perfect, even when turning my head sideways and bear in mind this is flying over Vegas. Haven't tried deferred shading yet though... Another issue is though that this system isn't simply a new GPU and CPU, but one with new faster RAM (not sure if that helps improve speeds but it is a flight sim) and probably more importantly a proper cooler that keeps the inside of my PC like a fridge! How do you find the performance with the 4770k chip? Like I said it seems almost close to flawless but bear in mind I am not flying multiplayer or any crazy missions with a thousand different things happening, but I never did that in DCS/VR on my old system either! Also everybody has different standards so perhaps what is fantastic to me wont be for you.
  21. How would I go about doing that?
  22. Well you shouldn’t be seeing the controller hand. Have you tried turning your controllers off?
  23. Well turned out I needed a DP cable for my new 1080ti. System was running like a dog (lame dog) too, and I needed a whole new reinstall of windows 10! Should have known I couldn't get away with keeping my old HD drive intact. Everything's running well now, though haven't tried DCS yet, just getting it all set up (controls, terrains, modules, CD keys etc). Tried BOS yesterday 4x MSSA, seems very smooth! Love DCS but I wish I'd just been patient and kept with the steam version, for quicker downloads. To be fair they have improved alot but it still took many many hours! Also every time there's an update the controls get all messed up, with buttons being automatically mapped to a thousand different peripherals which I then have to manually delete! Really hope the devs can look into a more user friendly control scheme! So happy I went with an after market fan too, I've never in my life had a computer that actually feels like a fridge to touch! Is bound to help performance I think! I guess the recommendation would be to wait a few years(warranty) before attempting a CPU overclock as at present it shouldn't really be necessary with an i7-8700k right?
  24. Well yeah I know I'm in my room, but first time I tried VR it gave me the sensation of actually flying, and tricked my brain into thinking it really was. Sadly that diminishes over time, but compared to a monitor it's a whole other level. Monitor flying after VR feels all wrong, which if you think about it, it is! Its like balancing a plane/helicopter on the end of your nose and attempting to manipulate it, from a massively zoomed out FOV. I agree room scale isn't really that great (yet) but get into vorpX and try GTA5 in 3D. Or alien isolation perhaps! Try flying around acrobatically in a Gazelle at night in Vegas! It goes beyond gaming its pure sensation. You do have a HOTAS and pedal system though right?
  25. I do actually! I'm using the same HD on this computer, it was one of the few things I kept, and although most things survived the move DCS seemed to be a casualty and got wiped!
