  1. For me personally I want VR to focus on improving the headsets performance rather than pushing its resolution and system requirements ever upwards. I honestly don't have a problem with the current generation of HMD's resolution giving that we can already just bump up the system settings/MSSA and PD. The problem is not resolution, its the power with which to enable that resolution within the headset I have. I already cannot max the game out anyway, so shouldn't logic dictate that we don't need headsets with higher requirements until our present rigs, can easily meet the already high demands of our present headsets? So I can have the option for 4k in each eye, but is that going to mean anything if my performance makes the game unplayable? 8k just seems like a dazzling gimmick! The new vive pro for example. Is the pro going to basically start at a higher default pixel density for example 1.5 instead of 1 and have the option to push even higher than 2.5 (or whatever the max is)? And if so, if it requires a more powerful computer to get there, then what is the advantage of having the pro, and why not just bump PD up in the headsets we already have? When VR first came out and we had no PD, I was in full agreement resolution was a huge issue, and right away I longed for the next generation of headsets with higher resolution and visual clarity. But with the advent of PD I no longer really care about anything but one day being able to achieve 90 fps. If you told me that pimax has created a headset that has the same resolution as the Vive but increases performance exponentially then I would be much more excited. If it meant I would be able to increase pixel density and MSSA (etc) then honestly I don't know what else I could ask for. There is no point having an ultra resolution HMD if the computer hasn't been built yet to support it. Correct me if I am wrong of course because obviously I'd love to be wrong. I would like a pimax if it was actually legit, and I plan to buy a volta Ti, but even with such a card I get the feeling I would still be where I am now. Greater visual quality yes, but still using re-projection. If that was the case I'd rather stay with the present gen and improve performance through better hardware as oppose to a headset. Visuals are important in VR but performance is still paramount and so we have to strike a balance. So have Pimax given any word on performance? On what kind of system one will need to run a game like DCS, and more importantly how it will run? I'm skeptical at least for a demanding game like DCS.
  2. Yeah I know 4x is perfectly acceptable, but do you find it runs well combined with a PD of 1.5? At least for me the last time I checked it was too choppy like that!
  3. Does that not create more judder when moving your head though?
  4. Ha it's funny how shadows are so important to so many people. If I woke up in a world without shadows tomorrow I probably wouldn't realize till about a month later! I'm kind of the same in VR it's just not something that bothers me but clearly I am in the minority!
  5. Gamma and lighting can also be used for an enormous advantage. Fly when the sun is coming up, or going down, or at night, and the game looks the most realistic and gorgeous thing I have ever seen. The overlapping mountainous valleys and snowy forests contrasted with the pinkish/orange skies, and the dazzling morning sun! I guess though for a lot of people who play competitive MP choosing their own time of day is not really allowed and they are forced by others to fly at 12 lol! Myself I'm just ecstatic flying around Vegas blowing stuff up! I mean it looks practically real and I just cant get over how fantastic it is. The other sim we all like can not hold a candle to 2.5 when it is at its best, in the right light at the right time! Remember too Gama can be changed in game in the options, this can have an enormously positive effect and make maps that look too bright, darker, and those that look too dark lighter. Just take all those shimmering bad textures and hide them with the gamma slider! Try flying with no MSSA and go back to 2x and you will really appreciate how much better it looks compared to no MSSA, whereas if you come from 4x you're going to be noticing the shimmering more. Don't let a bit of shimmering spoil the experience though because with DS DCS looks better than it ever has! Have you guys who play MP in the US or Europe never thought about getting together and starting VR only servers? I think DCS really needs such servers because then the settings could be properly tailored to the special specifications of VR, namely performance and lighting.
  6. How is the odyssey resolution wise dude? Have you tried other headsets from which to make a comparison?
  7. If you drop your settings down a bit dude I'm sure you'll have better performance such a high PD considering you also have MSSA and deferred shading on! It gets choppy on my rig if I go over 1.4 PD though I havent tested it recently, I think there was an update last night, so I live in hope! I cant tell people what works best for them but I would advise the OP to lower his ambitions and expectations! Try lowering them and see what you think! I think too its been proven that 8x MSSA is actually just 4x MSSA!
  8. Ah dont worry on that rig I'm sure we can get you up and running! Everybody had difficulties at first. Firstly go to your saved game folders and delete the contents of the metashaders and FXo files. Also delete options lua in the config folder. Then put deferred shading on, and reduce MSSA to 2x and pixel density down to 1.2 . You can with your system get away with 4x and it will still run nice and smooth but you will get snappier performance with x2. Good advice actually is to turn MSSA off and fly for a few days without it. After that X2 will look fantastic! As for the rest of the options I imagine you already know them. My guess is you just need to delete the folders mentioned above. Turn off shadows, lower visibility range, maybe lower the tree vis, and the ground clutter a bit. Turn off V-sync. With your system you should get very good performance as the game is actually much better now than it was considering I am able to use both MSSA and deferred shading, and still have things like heavy cloud cover. I have got a bit of a beast myself though and don't think I'd have been to happy were I still on my old rig. The game definitely needs a lot of work!
  9. I didn't realize my post came off as so spoilt and entitled! I simply asked if the devs were aware of the problem and working on a fix...
  10. This has been a problem since forever really I think, but its especially noticeable in VR on Viggen missions where heavy bombings seem to lag the game hard. I used to think it was just my old rig but since getting a new more powerful computer have realized that its actually just the game! Otherwise DCS performance is better than its ever been (and looks fantastic) but is there any word if developers are aware of this problem with a fix in the works? Damned shame to go to 2.5 with this still plaguing the engine. No amount of lowering graphics settings seem to solve this problem and missions with too many of these bombings going on are too stuttering to enjoy properly. Is it possibly related to the memory problems DCS is having? On my new rig I only ever seem to get steam VR loading background flashes if the game or some background program is needing to load something up. These bombings do the same thing its as if I am turning on an application in game- like my jet seat which does the same thing for example (will cause steam VR flashes in game when first loading up).
  11. I'm finding its best to keep my gamma settings higher and just fly earlier in the morning or at night! One mission on Vegas in December, with 2 gamma, at (I think) 6.55 just looks basically real in that light but if the gamma was too low everything would be way too dark so I am rethinking my 1.5 gamma. I found 1.6 PD with no MSSA so full of jaggies that I didn't really suffer much by dropping PD all the way down to 1.2. It does give fantastic performance, but I think without any MSSA you might as well just forget graphics altogether and go all out for performance! Clear gauges are also not high on my list of priorities either!
  12. To be honest in this build 2x/4x is only really noticeable over Vegas and even then doesn't seem to matter as much as it used to, but this may just be the result of my getting accustomed to a lower PD. Basically 2x doesn't seem much worse than 4, but also 4x doesn't seem that much better than 2x either. But neither are bad to a distracting degree and especially not away from Vegas. Performance also doesn't seem all that different either to be honest but I don't have any numbers for you. 4 does look better though at least in my tinker-addled probably by now delusional brain! Doesn't matter either way though cause I keep reminding myself how much better the game looks now I am able to enable deferred shading! Any time I start thinking how I want this or that or more of this or less of that, I remind myself how fantastic this sim looks now. Helicoptering into the dust cloud you've just created never gets old! The biggest problem for me is the lighting. I can only really fly at certain times of the day and not at all at night! I also seem to have to delete the fxo and metashaders folders periodically now, so I think there's definitely issues! It's certainly not a polished experience but hey Beta and all that! My advice decide on your settings and stick with them! Just have fun! I think if you play MP with lots of other players, until the game is better optimized (and I think certain modules are improved) you're going to have problems.
  13. Well shadows in VR are kind of a case of what I've never had I'll never miss. If I put them on I might start wishing I have them! I'm thoroughly sick of tinkering! It might sound bizarre but I just don't think about shadows when I am flying! Mainly I like the game to look tidy, with at least 2x MSSA on Caucasus and 4x in Vegas. Kind of wish we could see different graphics profiles, but to be honest as I am using re-projection and fly helicopters mostly (and turn of shadows and lower visibility) on my system I can afford 4x. I really do hope there will be big improvements for release though, but with the amount of problems that presently exist, they are going to be very busy!
  14. I dropped it down to 1.5 without noticing too much difference. Remember though steam VR pixel density I think is slightly weaker than in game PD so I don't think it was a matter of .6 in quite the same way you believe. My performance as of now is pretty much where I want it, striking a nice balance between beautiful visuals and smooth performance. Steam PD- 1.5 MSSA x2 VR-medium. I never use shadows to be honest!
  15. I think its a VIVE thing. When the game is loading up something in the menus or at mission start, you'll be dropping frames. The VIVE dev's however had the bright idea to implement a feature that when you drop frames in order to avoid motion sickness you will instead momentarily flash back out into the steam VR overlay screen, or maybe will just see a base station flash, or if its really bad an actual loading screen. Its a stupid idea that is there to prevent people getting motion sick and thereafter swearing off VR altogether. This happens a lot on the menus (where personally it doesn't bother me) but it can occasionally happen in game too, especially if running a lower end system, or just a mission that is way too much for the game to handle. Anyone planning to buy the new VIVE headset should be aware of this issue... There is a chance however I am talking about something different to the OP! Will let him determine if we are talking about the same thing!
  16. OP are you on the VIVE like me?
  17. Yeah it’s annoying, can happen in game too if you get FPS drops (not sure if it happens on the rift). Don’t think it can be solved until DCS itself is less powerful than the hardware we are using but giving that we are all bound to one core I don’t see that happening any time soon!
  18. I found the same thing 2x MSSA with 1.8 PD (in steam VR) runs better and looks about the same with increased clarity inside the cockpit. Never thought I’d leave 4x MSSA to be honest but I’m happy on 2x now! Also have all shadows off and visibility on low or medium which is much less of a problem with helicopters.
  19. Even on 1080Ti -especially in VR- every little helps and you have to strike a balance. It would be nice -on/in SP/mission editor only- if trees could be set according to how many you want rather than simply the visibility. Turn them off, and they are simply invisible and I fly into them and crash (I fly helie's)! That said I'm loving the new trees, flying into the forests to evade fire, is a whole new kind of fun, and much better than those transparent ghost trees we used to have!
  20. Vegas should be lit up like a Christmas tree! I cant see a thing anymore!
  21. Can you describe the hang? Does the game pause or do you see a loading screen? There is a mission for the viggen that is either too demanding (too much bombing I think) or badly optimized which causes my system to hang or lag (a lot) or whatever you want to call it, but I cant be sure if we both mean the same thing. Does it happen on heavy activity missions or just any mission you fly? It even happens in vegas when I crash the viggen sometimes but I fly helicopters mostly so I almost never see it. Used to happen all the time on my old system, and obviously happens much less on my new system but the problem still remains because the game remains very demanding in VR. I wouldn't put too much stock in the fps counter either. I get better performance now but lower fps than I was getting when I was getting better fps and lower performance.
  22. For some reason alt- and enter no longer works for me, it just remains in windowed mode. Don't happen to know why do you?
  23. Very big problem in VR viggen bombing missions and I had hoped it was something the devs would have worked hard to improve (explosion lags). It only seems to happen when bombing things though occasionally will happen during nasty crashes (more explosions).
  24. I see they have bumped up recommended requirements to a GTX 1070! Kind of worrying giving that they mean for the normal game!
  25. Oh sorry I think for some reason I forgot which guy I was talking to and thought you were arguing in favor of changing CP settings. As I said above already tried it myself and concur that they don't work!
