  1. Will you be giving tips ever day? Cause I would really appreciate that!
  2. Weird thing is I am finding with interleaved reprojection as oppose to asynchronous things seem to be smoother though I always thought it was supposed to be the other way round. You can fly with DS on at night and it will look great (and really cool with the tracers) but any light will be hideous even with 2x MSSA. I tried 4X mssa with DS, and with PD down to 1 and it did run pretty well but it still doesn't look anywhere near as nice as MSSA 4 PD 1.5 and DS off.
  3. Are you able to map labels to a HOTAS command so they can be flicked on and off again at the click of a button with DCS? That's what I do with BOS, and its much more palatable. Have a quick glance and then turn them off again, pretending you never did it!
  4. I never really have those problems. You can learn to know the AC outside of VR first, and then if needed use tooltips and the zoom function. But otherwise I never really have a problem reading if the textures are on high. Some modules are worse than others but I think you can learn to fly most AC's with this present generation of HMD.
  5. Got my Nevada to about what it was, after deleting all the metashader files etc. Hard to tell the difference really now but I still feel 2.2 was smoother with less nasty drops. There seems to be allot more ghosting when I turn my head to the sides now! I think I got myself hyped up expecting significant optimizations and improvements for VR performance thinking that the beta/release would be better than the alpha. I still hope this will be the case though and that the stable version will be improved. Caucasus is great flies and looks fantastic to be fair. The only problem I have with the Caucasus is the trees. They alternate between looking much better and much worse depending on the light, and really they are the only thing I can complain about now. Settings high/high PD 1.4 MSSA x4 are my basic settings with everything else largely off with a few minor exceptions.
  6. Can confirm that 2.2 Vegas is much smoother than 2.5. Glad I didn't delete it!
  7. Ah well to be honest with deffered shading on and MSSA off I think it actually looks much worse than the other way round. I just cant take the jaggies, colors also look weird! Nevada performance significantly poorer as well (will try system restart), which is heartbreaking because of how smooth I had it haha! I don't want to be a moaner going to keep my fingers crossed that this is all just the result of still being in beta.
  8. To be honest at the moment its kind of a case of 'careful what you wish for' and I'm kind of missing 1.8! I cant use DS because of the massive performance drop (and it is for me massive), and without DS the trees are very distracting like cartoon cutouts. I'm really hoping these issues are going to be ironed out. I don't care about DS but as things stand I kind of feel like I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. Anyone tell me what settings exactly within the nvidia inspector need to be changed in order to make DS acceptable?
  9. Yeah but 25-45? Sure it might look good but that doesn't sound like a smooth experience to be honest!
  10. Yeah and to be honest I rather doubt one would be able to mix DS and MSSA together and it would perform well on many of the more intensive missions.Clear Tkvarcheli for example how well does it run on that mission? Personally unless I can get it to work well without DS I will probably be leaving it off.
  11. People keep saying 45. Does that mean to say it stays at either 90 or 45 and never below? Or is it mostly around 45? People also keep saying how DCS 2 is more demanding now and needs a beefier system, but I thought before everyone was saying that DCS would run much better when 2.5 was released and be much better optimized?
  12. Yeah I might try and make it work without MSSA as I don’t think it will be as significant on the Caucasus map and with high pixel density. Downtown Vegas with all the buildings certainly needs MSSA though!
  13. There's alot to be happy about, however deferred shading is not an option it seems if you want MSSA in VR. Worst thing about it is how good deferred shading actually looks in VR. Unfortunately it tanks performance and I think we can safely that say in the stable build DS and MSSA together will still not mix. Brightness hasn't been improved without DS on and seems to have got worse which will mean still being obligated to fly only at certain times. Correct me if I am wrong but those who do not use DS still do not have a gamma slider. Things look great to be honest (at the right time) but trees look too bright. Terrain is greatly improved as are the buildings. Performance seemed about the same though I didn't try a very intensive mission, or fly for very long to get a proper idea. What does everybody else think?
  14. Because people with lower end rigs, or those who play VR would basically be unable to play. To be honest the trees look a bit too light but otherwise it looks great to me, certainly not broken! Of course I never fly at 12 o’clock!
  15. Just downloaded 2.5, came home to test it and found my throttle had bricked! Nooooooooo! The lights had died. This after just reading the 'help my throttle bricked thread' only a day or two ago and thinking god I hope that never happens to me. I reasoned that there could only be some sort of connection between my mind and a nefarious 'other' reality in which thinking bad things could actually make them happen. Went into DCS and found that not only my throttle but every controller I have was not working! This though gave me hope! I vaguely recalled when I bought my HOTAS and pedals having to download something, though why installing DCS 2.5 had uninstalled my controllers I couldn't imagine (I guess to make things work better controller wise). I've just bought a new computer (perfectly timed) though for some reason when I got it home all my peripherals were plug and play and I didn't need to download any of the drivers! Well I just downloaded them and everything is working fine now, or at least the beautiful green lights are on and DCS now registers my controllers! But god that was scary, imagine having to play the new DCS 2.5 in VR but on a keyboard! Too horrifying to contemplate a new throttle would have taken weeks to fix or replace at great time and expense. Reminds me how I hate having to buy things like this online, there should be a warthog repair depot on every street corner, to stop what didn't actually happen to me (yet) from ever occurring again... phew! Anyone else had any similarly terrifying moments? Going to go and have a lie down now!
  16. Yes I have been using a USB hub, is it better to connect it directly to the computer?
  17. Sorry forgot this thread as it doesn't happen very often but it happened once last night when I flew a plane into the ground hard. Didn't realize what had happened at first because I got a steam VR loading screen, and couldn't work out why, but then realized my jet seat had stopped working. Its not a huge problem but something to look into I guess...
  18. Like it. Some hot metal in a bottle perhaps with a sprinkling of thermite? And something to simulate burning flesh when I crash... Obviously my wife would have to ignite it but perhaps a joint of ham liberally marinated in some cheap engine oil?
  19. I have an air conditioner facing me. Wasn't intended as something to improve my VR experience but its amazing how much more immersive it can make things when you get up in the clouds with the cold air blowing in your face! It gives one more of a sense of movement...I turn it on by remote when I start flying especially in summer time when its really needed...I turned it on when my father tried VR and was setting off down the runway in a 109, and he really agreed it made things feel much more realistic and immersive!
  20. Almost 99 percent certain the update will wipe my controls and bind my throttle controls to my joystick, and my pedals to my electric toothbrush. Have saved the input file and hopefully with the merge I will only need to use 2.2’s input configuration! Hopefully this bug will be something that will improve in 2.5!
  21. Well guys I loaded optimized defaults in the bios and uninstalled Ai suite 3! I feel much better about it too, and after flying over Vegas can honestly say I couldn't really see any difference. I found a setting in the bios that can sync all cores to 5ghz which will run at 50 degrees (under load) with a few 60 degree spikes, but I wont be running such settings any time soon.
  22. Ah maybe you have a rift so you've never had to put up with those flashes. Vive has a system where when you drop frames you momentarily flash out of VR and can see the steam background, or if its a really big drop you might see a loading screen. Even on my system now on the badly optimized 1.8 DCS when you begin a mission for the first time, and all the assets have to load up you will see this flash though its not really a big deal when the level itself is loading as its not really in game. It was the bane of my life on my old system though and I am pretty sure its CPU related. On the menu screens on my old system if I zoomed with the mouse wheel it would be a total flash fest, and especially explosions/crashes could make the problem occur which in VR was very immersion breaking. These flashes were really the whole reason I upgraded, and I am glad to say I don't have to worry about them any more!
  23. You're totally right man, I kind of wanted to get an overclock as I bought the cooler specifically, but I fell into the same trap I was talking about in the OP, and started thinking more about the god damned FPS than just enjoying the game! No more of this, I am just going to start enjoying what I've got before karma decides to punish my ingratitude by blowing my CPU up! I did get a nice boost from that OC for heavy load missions like Clear Tkvarcheli (or the beginning of that mission) though!
  24. Will check later. I've found with high performance process lasso settings the CPU runs at about 50-60 degrees which is already a bit rich for my blood. Limiting the OS to one core and DCS to the rest produced instability so I wont be messing around with core affiliates again!
