I have attached one of my missions you simply follow the waypoint it will then display a message (which is just gibberish for testing purposes eg.dsaffsdf) which would ussually tell me that an enemy is incoming, after that the two helicopters should attack and kill me. I just tried it the two helicopters went nuts, though very often they land, sometimes one will kill me and the other will land, and sometimes they will both land, sometimes it works and indeed this was a working mission yesterday. All I did is perhaps moved the trigger zone. Nevada is doing the same thing. I will post nevada tommorow if this file dosent help. It seems to always be working OK and then I will move the trigger zone or something like that (because I was just testing it in its prior nearer position). Creating new trigger zones seems to have better success, so maybe I should create them and never move them! Argggh I really dont know, driving me mad! convoy.miz

Hey guys its doing the exact same thing again only I am using the same mission I was using last night that was working fine. I tried moving the trigger zone close to my take of point (for easier testing) and I am now getting warning messages (that I set) telling me their are enemies inbound when I am not even in the trigger zone. I'm starting to think its just bugged or something! Seems to just work whenever it feels like it. Im using 2.04 by the way. Probably have done something wrong but cant tell what!

I use 1.4 myself try to keep it as low as possible but also as high as possible at the same time! Cant see that much of a diffrence between 4 and 5 so might as well opt for perfomance...

Do is tacview something DCS installs automatically or something you installed yourself? Not sure what it is or where to find it! -
Using the mission editor to design missions for VR?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
Yeah man get into it, it's really worth it and makes having vegas so much more fun although I have spent most of my time editing and not flying recently! Flying your own missions is great fun I actually find it pretty tense and find my own missions. A little too difficult. It's really a great tool for creativity and I haven't even started yet! -
Yeah haha I was looking in all the wrong places on account of believing I had done everything right! Thanks man I will check it out! Appreciate it.

Using the mission editor to design missions for VR?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
Thanks man will gladly take a look! Spent all night on the mission editor! One thing I now have is a new respect for sim pilots who dont fly in VR. I went back to 2D just cause its easier for testing purposes and jesus I had to go back to VR in the end just cause it was easier to fly! I did used to fly 2D but VR has erased how difficult it really was! You really are at a major disadvantage, and because you feel so far back and dissosociated from your aircraft, its very difficult to judge all kinds of very important factors such as speed and distance! But like DCS itself I am glad I learned the mission editor, and also like DCS its another case of the more you put in the more you will take out. One thing I couldnt really undesrtand even reading the manual is just what exactly flags are, and what are they used for? -

Excuse my ignorance how do I stop tacview exactly? -
Panic over and six hours I'll never get back again! Was just a dumb mistake which I was almost certain it would be. When I was making new trigger points I wasnt using individual 'types' I think I kind of got 'type' confused with trigger zone and thought I was assigning multiple triggers to one zone. Anyway all sorted out now!

Just got it to work so maybe I know what I did wrong but will have to try again and see for sure.

I have read the manual and seem to be doing everything right but the enemy helicopters which are supposed to attack me when I enter into a trigger zone just land. If however I put the trigger zone over my own unit at take off (on runway), everything works just fine! It just seems to be that if I fly into the trigger zone nothing will trigger. I even started a mission from the air, and not on the ground (on runway) with the trigger point already on my unit, and it still failed to activate and the enemy helicopters just landed! Likewise everthing works until I move the trigger point off of my unit, and I have him fly into it, then it wont trigger! I have followed the instructions in the manual but must be missing something! Anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I have tried giving the enemy waypoints but still no dice. My trigger zone is called 1. No event (once) Condition- unit inside zone AI task set (attack my unit) I have also made sure to set the enemy units to attack my unit (set task) -when triggered- within their own individual trigger point options (but not on advanced waypoint options) but it still wont work. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? many thanks in advance

Yes I think that is why the mission 'battle' dosent do so well, constant bombardments. Also I noticed that if you load up a randomly generated mission with as much AI on as possible its completely unplayable though that might be because something isnt working properly as the Mig 21 dosent work properly on 2.04. -
Using the mission editor to design missions for VR?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
Well as I said above, yes there's loads of missions that are quite fine to fly with but every so often you come up against missions with too many units that VR does not seem to handle as well. If you control the number of units you can make sure you won't have any performance dips. Haven't tried MP yet so I was mainly asking if people have thought about creating MP maps specifically for VR so they don't when playing MP pubically come up against maps and missions with so many units that it ruins the VR experience. -
haha thats why I never use fps counters and just let I myself say when the game appears to be running poorly. Somewhere along the line the world became obsessed with 60 fps!

I've just been getting into it, and its a really great tool that will allow me to start real missions on Vegas that are quite easy even for a layman to make close to the standard of many of the 'instant action missions' which I as a bit of a noob play most often anyway. It is so cool trying to hide from enemies and sam sites in vegas, flying low and using the buildings as cover! Thought I would recommend it to others like me, who have maybe lazily avoided using it up to now because mission editors are famously complex and involved. This one is actually really simple to get started with, and I finally managed to set up a few enemy activated trigger zones after a few hours of only trial and error. Even if you dont want trigger points you can just plonk a few samsites around vegas, and trust me you'll still have enormous fun trying to take them out! After a while you start to realize that the mission editor and making missions (or attempting in my case) is actually a whole other creative side to the game, making the missions a hobby in itself. The main thing though and the reason I forced myself to get into mission editing with DCS is that I like being able to have control over peformance (number of units, and which units etc) which is pretty much a God send for VR as you can still create great missions with plently of action that are much better streamlined and wont overload the fps/units. So anyone else use the mission editor to design VR only missions? I was wondering if there is a VR community which specifically design missions with VR performance in mind?

I've noticed that there are still some problems with DCS world. Crazy missions such as battle perform poorly and forget trying to run a default user created mission without turning any of the randomly created AI opponents off, because frame rates will rend the experience unplayable. I get the feeling aircraft or certain aircraft are incredibly detrimental to fps performance but not sure if this can ever get better with battles on such a large scale. It might just be that certain aircrafts are poorly optimized as the mig 21 used to be and still is in 2.04 Still I'm now learning the mission editor and can now create missions for myself that wont have these problems. Even DCS 2.04 has big problems running the default user created missions in VR, has anyone else noticed this? What is the multiplayer performance like in VR are there often battles set up that the computer cant handle as described above with battle and default user created missions? Say you have 16 players playing at once, would that be a problem? -
It's not really flailing it's perfectly doable to use a mouse I just found it less efficient and less accurate. It's not a great deal of difference just marginally quicker and remember by flailing and fumbling about I was talking about moments in which you are flustered on account of being in an emergency situation. Maybe not everyone is effected in the same way as me but this is just my own personal preference.
-
Well I don't have my mouse strapped to my leg! I personally like using the head tracking with the mouse mapped to the HOTAS and find it faster and more convenient. If that makes me a three year old then so be it.

Don't use version 1.5.6 as it's performing badly for VR as of now, you should roll back to 1.5.5. -
Hahaha love it. God I miss only fools!

Yes to be honest I havent got the same system setup for the A10 but that one is probably going to require voice attack in the end I think! The modules I use mouse buttons mapped to my HOTAS have either spare buttons, or non essential functions mapped to the HOTAS which I personally find the mouse keys to be more useful in tight or emergency situations, for example landing gear, eject etc. This method certainly does have problems and limitations and I ended up in the mig 21 having to map important mouse wheel functions to my keyboard. Basically it works better for some modules than others. It's not about staring with laser accurucy but about being able to press a button ASAP without fumbling around for a mouse. As mentioned in another post already I doubt I will change the A10 setup unless I can find some similarly non essential buttons but even then I dont really want to alter the A10's authenticity as I have a warthog setup.

I think I can maybe see a kind of distant blur but to my eyes this makes the game look better and more realistic as one is not so relentlessly zooming in on shoddy textures. For me its never looked or performed better I'm having so much fun and am so happy because finally I feel like DCS is now free from irritating performace issues and bugs. To be honest though dude if you are wanting to play it at a pixel density of 2.5 I think maybe your standards are just waaay higher than mine as I have a 980 Ti and I dont go higher than a pixel density of 1.4. -
Yes but real pilots also dont have to find and use a mouse to push their buttons while weaing a VR headset, this might not seem like a big deal but in practice -at least for me- it will get you killed! I personally think using the VR head tracking is actually more realistic than scrambling around for my mouse and then moving the cursor over to whatever button I need. It's time consuming and will often get you killed in a panicked emergency whereas 'look and push' will often save your life. For added realism you can push with the left hand on throttle and then lean in to whatever button you are looking at to imaginarily push it with your right hand if you really want added realism! :) Pressing a button with your hands while flying is enormously more efficent than using a mouse especially in tight situations and I do think using VR head tracking to look at what button you indend to push and then pushing it, more realistically mirrors the real life situation of using your hands. I really have died quite alot because I lost valuable time using the mouse and in emergencies a few seconds can be the diffrence between life or death. Not only that but it gets on my nerves after a while and looking for the mouse kind of breaks immersion as nobody flys a plane with a mouse! It's personal preference I guess with no real right answer but after getting used to head tracking and the mouse mapped to my HOTAS I find it very difficult to go back and personally really love it.

Love the Black shark but is it worth getting the Gazzel?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Am actually loving the Mi-8 and how it feels. Havent had time to learn how to fly it yet but have attempted a few landing and its really made me realize not to approach modules with preconceptions. The main thing that repelled me about the MI8 was the word 'transport' but now I realize the hugeness of the beast makes it fun and it has a whole new feel in comparison to the blackshark which makes buying it seem alot more sensible! I may buy mostly during sales but in the end I will probably make up for it by buying basically every DCS module there is! -

Can't remember which version exactly, it was updated automatically a few days ago so I'll get back to you later. Sorry I didn't mean graphics LUA I meant 'steam VR settings' in which you can edit the supersampling yourself manually. My guess is your on 1.0 supersampling and the slider in DCS is not working for you. If you don't understand what I'm talking about let me know and I'll get back to you with a link for how you can manually change supersampling yourself. I'm not even sure it works from within DCS using the slider. My DCS after the update is looking and performing better than it ever has, it just feels wonderful, almost perfect now. Yesterday I looked out at my black shark and was greatly impressed by how sharp my BS looked, so defiantly no supersampling issues here running st 1.4 or maybe 1.3 will have to check.
