Mission 10 : Birds of prey
Gliptal replied to bzhnono's topic in A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign (legacy version)
Oh my god, the wingman is so useless. I got hit by one and I mean one bullet from the two ZSUs in the village, and guess what got damaged? The gun. I had no gun. The final assault proved impossible to withstand, I spent all my rockets and bombs and destroyed a fair share of enemy trucks, but the wingman just wouldn't engage the rest. -

To avoid this taxi behind the F-16s. The AI has serious problems dealing with taxiing when different flights are involved. -

Sorry for the lack of reports, I was away for the easter holidays. Mission 10: - The flight plan correctly assumes you're taking off from runway 25, which makes sense given the wind direction. It also seems to place you for an approach on runway 07 for the landing, whereas it would still be 25 assuming the wind doesn't change. There may be more tomorrow, since I crashed into the ground like an idiot halfway through, after misjudging an attack run. -
EXP is there to allow you to survey an area centered around the cursor. Very useful to plan attack headings, or lock the correct symbol among a cluster of close ones.

I like to keep paper and pencil close and use them to take notes. Not just coordinates either, I found myself sketching the target area more than once in TEW. whether following a radio description or based on what I see through the TGP (or my MK0.5 eyeballs). Also, consider dumping 30€ for a cheap wireless keyboard, buy a tablet stand, and create a simple UFC with paper and double sided duct tape. This may seem like a minor addition to your simpit, but it improved my effectiveness with the CDU tenfold, since I can now enter data without fiddling with the mouse and the views. I realize this is viable only if you have all HOTAS commands on your stick and throttle though.

It seems like modern tankers have 3D headsets for the boom operators to help them perceive depth: read a snippet from an article in this thread. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=163391

About the F-35 - About AAR I was reading a very nice article about the first transatlantic flight of an F-35 (Italian AL-1, from Cameri to Patuxent River), and there a couple of nice snippets I thought could interest the community, especially in regards on what the pilots feeling is about the F-35 and how modern AAR works (the A-10 and F-35 share the boom aspect at least). Just bare with my localization, since the original excerpts are in italian. About AAR: 3D headsets for the boom operators About the F-35: from an interview with Maj. Pil. Gianmarco Di Loreto I hope you found this couple of snippets interesting, I know it immediately came to my mind the number of single systems in the A-10C and how nice it would be if everything were integrated in an HMD.

Tracks are completely unreliable, and if I remember correctly downright break 100% of the time as soon as a missile of any kind is fired. You'd be better off with TacView.

Take a look at this diagram, it may explain why you now have to be pointed at the target for mavs to not lose track. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2718340&postcount=6

That's fair if you consider the aircraft manuevering in some way, but simple zooming out shouldn't make a target disappear.

Make sure the illumination flare is low enough for the target to be properly lit. -Hs and -Ks also have a very poor sensore in DCS (even with optimal weather), so you'll need to be quite close in range, and probably be pointed in a dive to avoid the sensor picking up random noise after firing. I noticed with -Ds as well that the larger the angle between your nose and the target, the higher the probability of the mav losing track and missing the target. I personally avoid force correlation mode, but that's just me because it's implemented wrong in DCS at the moment.

True. Their SFM allows for impossibly short braking distance.

A-10C Training module problem part II
Gliptal replied to Pineapple Pete's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
No it may really be a solution, the tutorial tells you to press the spacebar but that works because by default the gun trigger is binded to the spacebar. The simulation is actually waiting for the trigger to be pulled, and not the specific key to be pressed. -

Try the gun trigger. -
AI will only land in formation if the player isn't the flight lead.

Damnit, missed it the first time I looked at shortcuts. Thanks!

Bugs and problems
Gliptal replied to baltic_dragon's topic in A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign (legacy version)
Mission 9: - During startup three trucks are driving just outside the traxiway, on the left. - F10 entry "Location: bulls 044 for 67" not working from a certain point onward. Didn't know it was there, I guess it's an answer to Overlord? - You can easily spot the tanks from farther away than the trigger zone that adds the F10 menu entries to clear FORD for the attack run. - One of the F-16 pilots bailed out halfway to Kutaisi, probably because of low fuel. Only noticeable in Tacview though (or by paying close attention to the TAD). -
Nice. Another feauture that could be quite useful would be the ability of selecting a unit by clicking on it.

This is a good solution. -
Since you're working on the new version, any chance you could give a look to Mavericks? It feels like they have a bit too wide splash damage now, wider than Mk82s even.

To sum it up, I'm finding it hard just because the cloud layer completely messes up the GBU-32s. EDIT: Now that I think about it, the wind is blowing directly against the bomb if you use the SOUTH-NORTH attack heading. I have the habit of releasing JDAMS at around half their window, but maybe relasing them as close as possible to the lower threshold may net better results.
