+1 i almost went insane from this awful noise. someone please say there's a silence key. this could not be good for troop moral
-
so...what causes this upon startup? i'm guessing nothing good is there a way in-sim to tell you what's happening to your plane? this would be phenomenal for training exercises
-
I was just using the built-in templates, not sure if they have that piece included or not

Bored - How to find specific missions?
dresoccer4 replied to dresoccer4's topic in Forum and Site Issues
oh i know the mission editor inside and out. that's essentially all i use these days, whether making my own missions but more often than not tweaking some downloaded missions. Thing is, with me, is if I design a mission then it's not as fun. as you know it so well it loses its mystique and unpredictability. sure you can throw in some random stuff, but for the most part you know exactly what's gonna happen, as you made it happen that way. that's why we need customizable search access to the literal thousands and thousands of user-created missions out there just waiting to be explored. It opens the door to almost limitless untapped possibility and a never-ending flow of new adventures waiting to be discovered -
Was reading changelog and saw this, can someone explain exactly what it means? Thanks Added a view for trains set through the mission editor - CTRL-F12.
-
cool thanks ill try this out
-
i know the main "radar" switch to turn it off but i just want to silence to audio noise. is that switch over there too?
-
How to turn off RWR alarm? its going off non stock just flying around the cold dark mission
-
yep its checked. but i have another thread about this and it seems lots of people are having the issue so it may be a bug:
-
oh the rudder trim is a separate issue i believe (but not sure). i dont use yaw channel normally but it does work. but the rudder won't trim when i press the trimmer button no matter what. the cyclic trims fine. the Mi-8 should work the same but it's rudder trim works for me
-
420...nice yeah i've read chuck's guide front to back and its awesome. but still can't get auto hover to work, its one of those things you have to be shown instead of read theory about
-
are there any video tutorials on how to auto hover? not sure how to actually enable/disable it and what allowances there are thanks P.S. also i STILL can't get the rudder to stay trimmed
-
is there a way to hide infantry in buildings do you think? like clip them in, then when you blow up the building they die too
-
I'm wanting to set up some WW2 missions where enemy infantry are posted up in villages and firing from windows of buildings so you have to take out specific buildings so the troops can advance. is this possible? it would be awesome to have enemy fire coming out of windows at you
-
i got them to work and using LCtrl+F12 also works! are there trains that have AA and shoot back if you're attacking them? almost nailed it
-
hi thanks for your response. yeah this is the way I'm doing it now, the problem is if the mission has hundreds of units then it can take a long time. was looking for a simple ctrl+a select all way to modify multiple units at once

liberation is interesting and i will check it out more. but sort of a different beast than what i'm trying to get in the OP -
anyone been able to get the rudder trimmer to work recently?
-
hmm, i'm not quite following this. i see an "show hidden units" checkbox but that just shows them in the mission editor and doesn't actually unhide them. i there something else you're talking about?

Hey guys - so I've been playing DCS for many years now and own all of the modules. I've done the training for them all and are proficient with all the weapons systems. This has given me many hours of fun and learning. However, and it pains me to say this, recently I've finally begun to get bored with the game. What I want is easy, customizable access to the thousands of user created contents out there, which is currently difficult if not impossible to do. I've already started a topic on how the user content search function needs a complete overhaul as its essentially functionless. What I'm wanting to know from you guys is if you've found a work-around to find specific content that you're wanting to search for. For example, I want to see all of the missions for the F/A-18 in the Syria map that provide SEAD gameplay. I want just recent missions (within the last year, as older mission files are prone to break) and if possible sorted by popularity or quality to get the best ones. Has anyone found a way to do this sort of detailed searching? I feel like if I can figure this out it will greatly enhance the re-playability and expand the breadth of possibilities within DCS and reinvigorate life into it. Thanks for any insight or tips!

yep, i got that part. looking for the built-in liveries that come with the game. when i add additional liveries in the saved game fiolders it seems to overwite the defalt ones. so trying to locate them

ill explain then, because it relates to your erroneous statement "this issue seems very minor to me" as it becomes even more important in "very old" software. Canary in the coal mine is an english saying representing a small warning sign which is a precursor to eventual larger problems. So even though having inconstant naming conventions may seem trivial to the average joe, it could be a sign of a bigger problem down the road (such as poor coding, or bad QA, or rushed deployments, etc etc) which could lead to delays or conflicts or crashes. Or it could be none of those things. Such goes the saying. It's simply an interesting observation and gives you something to think about. Hope this explained it well enough for you. No need to respond I consider this thread now closed
-
for something as basic as module names it shouldn't matter how old the software is, its probably just mistakes instead of intentional discrepancies. coders not looking back at conventions and instead forging on their own. however mistakes this simple could also be seen as canaries in the coal mine, if you know what that means... OR, it was on purpose for some greater purpose unbeknownst to us
-
ok i didn't think so either but wanted to double check. thanks. its quite a handy feature!
-
thanks for the response, good to know! You'd think it'd just be simpler for everyone involved if they kept a consistent naming convention throughout the sim and across modules. Then no need for digging into lines of code and confusion. At least this is what I was taught in my programming 101 classes . As my profs said, "Keep it simple, stupid!"
