Wags, I hope my understanding of your comment about dates and time frames is correct in that I interpret it as pertaining to delays in features/systems/weapons and not the early autumn release of the aircraft itself...

Disregard the above post. I finally found great information on how to apply Nyogel to the TWCS in the following article: https://support.newgatesimms.com/flight-simulator-joystick-and-throttle-damping-case-study/ Hopefully this information can be of use to others who are interested in improving the grease and feel of their TWCS Throttle.

I am going to replace the factory grease in the TWCS Throttle with Nyogel 767a. I have taken the throttle apart and it seems that the tension bar is the only piece that is in contact with the metal rails. Also, it looks like that the tension bar only contacts the upper half of the rails, meaning that Nyogel is not needed on the lower half. What is the recommended application of the Nyogel? Do I just apply a small strip along the top of the rails? Would it be better to rub the Nyogel along the rails? Other than the where the potentiometer arm attaches to the slider, where else should I apply Nyogel? Thanks!

Thank you for the in depth information. Very good stuff to hear! This might be a better question for Glowing Amraam since he is making it. I imagine we would see Mini-Updates start before we see the trailer since the trailer would most likely show the F-16 in it's near early access release form with as many features and weapons showcased as possible.

I have always wanted to experience desert heat. I have lived on the east coast all my life, so humidity has always been a factor. I went to Reno, NV a few summers ago and found it to be much more comfortable, but that was of course at a higher elevation. All this heat is making me wish for Fall even more...cooler temperatures, leaves changing color, pumpkin beer, the F-16 :smilewink: Living here in Virginia with high humidity, I am ready and willing to try out the dry desert heat too!

Thank you for the update. That makes sense. I just don't understand the development process, as I am having trouble seeing years of developement for one aircraft be condensed into months for another. I suppose that I am just significantly underestimating how much the work on the Hornet is contributing to and expediting the development of the F-16.

From what I have been able to find, the following USAF units have flown and/or still the F-16CM: 20th Fighter Wing, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. (three squadrons) 52nd Fighter Wing, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany (one squadron) 35th Fighter Wing, Misawa AB, Japan (two squadrons) I am not sure about ANG units, maybe someone has more information... There is also a new USAF squadron (24th TASS) that was activated in 2018 and is based at Nellis AFB which flies the F-16CM, but since the DCS F-16 is a 2007 version, I don't know if they would be included.

+1 Is it me, or does there seem to be a lot less hype and promotion for the F-16? 5 months before the release of the Hornet, we had 21 Mini-Updates and the Preflight, Startup, Taxi, and Takeoff video. Here we are 1 month after the start of the presale and 4 months before the end of early autumn and we don't have anything... Hopefully I am just being overly worried, but I thought the F-16 was in a far more advanced state than the Hornet was at the same stage.

I think you mean the "GBU-39" was not available. GBU-38 was available for the 2007 F-16.

I just finished reading Vipers in the Storm, and some F-16's did indeed have and use the LANTIRN in Desert Storm. The author of the book was LANTIRN qualified and utilized it during combat against Iraq in the book.

I don't understand your comment...This is a discussion about the DCS F-16...a 2007 USAF version, not a Sopwith Camel, Mustang, Sabre, Phantom, etc. The F-16 flys in a world where smart weapons and targeting pods exist and wars are fought with. US Air Force F-16's never served in combat without the capability of having a targeting pod. Also, the aircraft nor it's "smart weapons" can be used to their fullest capabilities without one. So yes, it would be nice if we did have it from day one. The DCS Hornet is still missing systems and capabilities it had in the early 90's.

The sound effects and audible click does work well in the Tomcat; however, the general consensus is that it is unrealistic. I have never sat in a real fighter plane and put a helmet on, so I don't know what it really sounds like, but from those on the forums who have, the Hornet's internal sounds are realistic and the Tomcat's are not. I would rather have realism and simulate what it really sounds like in the cockpit with helmet on.

I regret it too...I really wanted to like the CH stuff. The jittering in the throttle axis was just way too much that the throttle and stick in the cockpit were jittering as well. There was also a noticable lack of precision and of course the poor software. The ergonomics and quality of the buttons on the Fighterstick and Pro Throttle are really great, but I feel that the internals are just to outdated compared to other products available. I now have the Warthog Stick, Thrustmaster TWCS Throttle, and TFRP Pedals. I am happy with my decision as there is a significant increase in quality, precision, and feel compared to the CH Products. Oh, and no jittering! Each axis is rock solid.

Interesting! I will have to try this out! Was it difficult to place the velcro at the correct position to match MIL power? What is the exact procedure you used for doing this? Do you find it to be precise...able to hit 100% at the velcro stop? Did you have to change the throttle curve at all? Thanks! If this works, I may not need to worry about the AB detent special option.

So what is a good/better alternative than assigning a button as a toggle for the afterburner detent? I have a Thrustmaster TWCS throttle without a physical detent.

I am getting ready for the F-16 as well! I decided that a Thrustmaster Warthog stick along with the TWCS throttle and T. Flight Rudder Pedals would be a good setup for the F-16. Since you don't like rudder pedals, the TWCS could work for you because it has a paddle switch that could be used for the rudder axis.

Wow, okay...so how does this work in DCS? Is it even possible to have this level of control? Also, why is it even necessary and/or in what situations would you have to use the different afterburner stages? On a sidenote ...who moved this to the "wishlist" section and why? In the second post of this thread, someone who I assumed was ED staff stated that the AB detent special option would be included....this isn't a "wish," it's a discussion about an intended and confirmed feature.

The Warthog throttle actually has a physical afterburner detent so you don't have to worry about using this option unless for some reason you don't like the Warthog's detent.

Hmm, interesting...I never knew! The great thing about this community is that I get to learn something knew all the time. I guess I never noticed it because the travel on my throttle is so small that to see the different stages of afterburner would take very fine movement of the last few millimeters of travel. So for me, afterburner has been treated as all or nothing. So, are the different stages of afterburner actually used in real life operation? Does the pilot have that level of precision in the throttle to do that?
