  2. Not sure comparing other aircraft's brake performance is really a valid comparison. Must be some real Mir 2K braking charts out there. AERODYNAMIC BRAKING A study was done in the RAAF with the Mirage IIIO regarding aerodynamic braking and drag chute use. The conclusion was that yes without the chute aerodynamic braking was effective however with the chute deployed the benefits of aerodynamic braking were negligible.
  3. 1.5.3.51171 With the radar in STT (PIC) the radar antenna elevation marker on the VTB does not move to reflect current antenna elevation. I would have thought in STT (PIC) as antenna elevation changes then so should the antenna elevation marker on the VTB. How to replicate Set up a head on target say 6000m high Maintain your altitude lock the target continue towards the target. Naturally TGT actual elevation increases as range reduces. Antenna elevation marker remains fixed. TRK demonstrating the bug attached. Single Bar scan. Target ends up 30Degrees high in STT with Antenna elevation marker still on 0deg Antelevtrk.trk

  7. I think if in reduced Azimuth and in TWS with a designated target the Azimuth volume should be centered on the designated TWS target ....thats how the F18 TWS worked back in the 80's

  12. Just updated both the Open Beta and the Stable release version to 1.5.3.50487. As soon as I started the Beta I again was asked to reactivate the MIG21 ... another activation lost (thats 2 in the last 2 days).So a recredit of 1 activation as leatherneck says is going to be added to all keys is not sufficient. Need a minimum of 2 recredits. On updating the stable 1.5.3 the files were copied over from the Beta install. Did not have to reactivate the MIG21.
  13. Sp@t you need to revisit the basics .... you are wrong ... I have been flying around the planet for the last 42 years and haven't got lost yet :) If variation is East you subtract it from True to obtain Magnetic if Variation is west you add it to true to obtain Magnetic. Have a look in the Mission Editor. ILS courses are displayed in TRUE. So ILS 21L in Nellis shows a course of 220 in the Mission Editor ILS and approach plates show courses as Magnetic. Have a look at the ILS chart for Nellis 21L the ILS course is shown as 209. They have used 11East variation. so 220True - 11East Variation = 209Magnetic :) If you dont believe me have a read here: http://www.schoolofsailing.net/true-and-magnetic.html

Ok Variation in the Caucus is 6 Deg East http://maps.ngdc.noaa.gov/viewers/historical_declination/ To determine Magnetic Heading from True use the following aide memoir ... its been used since Pontious was a pilate :) "Variation East magnetic Least, Variation West Magnetic best" So 130 True in the Caucus is 124 Magnetic In Nevada Variation is 12East So 130 True in Nevada is 118 Magnetic

  17. Installed Open Beta 1.5.3. MIg21 needed reactivation reporting major changes to my PC as the reason.... none of course have ocurred. So activations ... down to 7.

    Radar provides Range data to the sight to allow for the calculation of lead requirements for Air to air Guns in two modes Snapshot and Tracking. the only real difference being the sight settling times and the consequent differences in pilot sight handling. Range is is displayed by the range bar that moves inside the outer reticle. The F5E gunsight was pretty neat when compared to those of equivalent types. In missile modes Range was displayed in a similar way. In Missile mode the pipper represents the missile seaker boresight (corrected for wing twist). So pipper on to get tone.In addition Excess G cue was displayed to indicate you are pulling too much G for missile launch. Really only applicable to AIM9B and perhaps E. Missile seekers could not be slewed by the radar. Manual lock on is similar to the MIG21 in that you have to drive the radar return to both Zero azimuth and elevation then initiate lock on. APQ 153 APQ159 had off boresight Lock capability. 2 Auto lock ACM Boresight modes were available one for guns and one for missiles. Only real diff is max range they operate to

    The F5E is a basic Air to Mud platform no computed delivery modes.... just straight out manual depressed sight line stuff. the gunsight in Air to Ground was however roll stabilised so the pilot didnt have to deal with sight pendulosity errors and wasnt restricted to wings level at weapon release.

    Yes. 2 modes available in AA guns. Snapshot mode (AA1) selected manually or by HOTAS dogfight switch used for ftr v ftr combat . Piper represents Bullet position at target range if fired 1 TOF ago.A standard LCOS mode for non maneuvering targets (AA2) has usual LCOS settling times.

    Pretty simple Gunsight in F5E. In Air to Air Missile mode plus Guns LCOS and Guns Snapshot modes. In Air to Mud no computed modes all pre planned depressed sight lines.
