A few more night scene issues with 1.5.4: - testing done with clear sky on June 1 at 0200, 2011 1) The UH-1 Landing light is not aimed correctly for both right and left eyes so that there is one beam - each eye has a separate aim point and bothers stereoscopic vision 2) Still a lot of color banding (you can see distinct edges) wherever there is twilight. Tried with HDR on or off 3) Water looks golden or brown 4) Ground isn't at all dark enough - with/without moonlight Were these issues before - without VR? I see many of these issues in 2.0alpha as well. I think the UH-1 landing light is fine in 2.0 Thanks Dave

Sounds like we need to establish a reference mission at night and all try it out. Maybe some of the Option Settings have an effect - like HDR. I reduced the star size but I see a lot of color banding in the sky. Maybe we should have a clear sky version and a cloudy sky version. Could someone generate such missions please ? Thanks Dave
-
It's not very dark but you can reduce the star size by editing the star.fx file in \Bazar - set starSize = 250.0 or so

The thing I think that is amazing about this Pixel Density Override is that we all were assuming that to get a much clearer image on our VR goggles, the focus would simply be more pixels (4K??) in the display hardware - and yet a major item has turned out to be oversampling! For future systems, we need both. I just have a DK2 for a while longer and the visual improvement is wonderful.

@SkateZilla, Whoops, I must have overlooked the sticky somehow?? Dave
-
@SkateZilla, What happened to your sticky with reported problems? That really helped stop "new reports of old problems" threads. I was going to open a thread about these view concerns because it seemed that the TrackIR issues and VR issues were somewhat different. Also, I still don't think that the numpad 2 and 8 side look approach addresses the whole isuue - even after doing that fix, when I lean forward to read a gauge, the view still moves incorrectly - and of course, it is annoying that we have to do it again after each flight (save doesn't work). OTOH, the improvements with this release are terrific - having the mouse back is wonderful, the pixel density issue is nicer than the Debug Tool, zoom is nice, etc. The fixes are really useful. Thanks to the ED team for all their hard work and expertise! Dave

[CLOSED] Slanted side view when using TiR in latest 1.5.4. OB.

Is there any connection for skewed views issues to this problem reported in the oculus forums: https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/38896/view-swims-as-you-move-head Dave -
@OP (Poly_Roie), Not sure if you have Nvidia or AMD, but I have Nvidia 970 (Driver 368.22) and DK2 running Oculus Runtimes 1.4.0.224375 on Win10. You might not have cleaned up the last runtimes (0.8 maybe) when you went to 1.4 so you should check that you don't have any Oculus Configuration Utility.exe running with Task Manager - just OVRServiceLauncher.exe and OVRServer_x64.exe - then run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus\Support\oculus-home\OculusVR.exe" and you should get the warning and the "hover box", then the room. Minimize that, run the Oculus Debug Tool and set Pixel Density Override to 1.5 or so, and then start DCS World with VR selected. If SkateZilla is still having problems with his AMD system after some sort of update, maybe that is what your experiencing. Good Luck Dave

Simply turn off the Oculus and then restart the game

@ignition22, You can also connect the various Cockpit Camera movements (forward, aft, left, right,up,down) to your POV hat

Just a small comment on the issue of label use. I set them so there is just a "+" showing unless the target is far away but I also have the enable/disable labels command as one of my voice commands and turn them on just briefly and then turn them off. I do think that the newest fighter aircraft will have HUDs and HMDs in them that also point out targets plus just like my car and phone, they will have voice command (which feels like I have a RIO/GIB since he/she echos my voice commands). I didn't realize there was an intermediate version of DCS 2.0 that had the end of mission stuck viewpoint fix but still let the mouse do the clicking - could you tell us which version number that is so we can use the updater to return to it. Thanks Dave
-
@SkateZilla, It would be great if you added the pointer icon - lack of clickable mouse - into your Sticky about VR Status - Known bugs and future plans. Maybe we wouldn't see it pop up again in a new forum thread then - although, it certainly is the first thing that I would like fixed! Secondly, I have heard from some that they get more stutter/judder with Oculus Runtimes 1.4 (than with 1.3) - have you heard/seen any indication of that? Thanks much Dave
-
@Derek, I experimented with the Pixels per Display Pixel Override from the Debug Tool and even with my Nv970 and DK2, a setting of 1.5 is definitely sharper - I can easily read the small font text at the bottom of the opening screen and the performance isn't really degraded. It's maybe a small improvement but pleasantly noticeable. I wonder if I should try different Antialiasing settings. Maybe this is similar to Nvidia DSR concepts.

Make sure you set up a button for the "Cheat" Autopilot (straight and level) so that you can rest from the wobble when you want to go straight and just watch the scenery - plus you can relax your joystick hand.
-
Not sure which recent update brought it back but the full terrain/mountain shadows are back. It looks great at early sunrise or pre sunset. Before it was just sun lighting intensity based upon angle to the sun. Looks great with VR.

@Derek, Thanks much for taking the time to look for the "faceplate" image. It's good to know that it isn't only my system. @SkateZilla It seems like an alpha texture (semi-transparent) that got loaded in after the 3D rendering finishes - just a guess - it's the size of the full screen. I actually see it quite easily with a late dusk (twilight) mission time which is a beautiful time to fly in downtown Las Vegas with a heli. If I move outside the cockpit so as to look at aircraft or fixed objects - I notice it. Anyway, enough said. On to enjoy the wonderful VR DCSWorld! I think flying in formation is really a lot of fun in VR - a group of helis look so real. Thanks Dave
-
@Derek, Nope - I still have a DK2. Like I tried to say, I don't think it is a "burn in" image since I just can't see it at all in the daytime missions - but it might be - I haven't always turned the goggles off. It seems like it is maybe a couple feet away from the eyepoint and is nearly black but with dark fixed smudges - so it looks like a dark mesh screen. Please try the nighttime yourself and instead of being inside the cockpit, use F2 or whatever to get outside and carefully look. I didn't notice it right away. In the end run, not a big deal but I didn't notice it with earlier VR releases. Best to all VRers Dave

New issue - I think. In the nighttime environment, when I go to an external view (mainly F2), I notice that it feels like I am looking through a "faceplate" that has a pattern of smudges on it. At first, I was afraid that I had some sort of "burn-in" from a constant image on my DK2 but I don't see anything like it all from the cockpit view. The "faceplate" image turns with my head - fixed in place - but I still see the outside view of the aircraft OK but through this fixed pattern. It might be there during the day, but I can see it only at night. Anybody else see this effect? @SkateZilla, Thanks for the tip on going fullscreen to maintain window focus - but it really shouldn't be required since that is not an issue with the 1.5.3 VR version - in fact, there the problem is to get your mouse cursor outside the DCS window to look at a webpage. Thanks Dave

Where are some good places to stage a mission for a Huey? Dave
-
One thing I would like comments on is if there is something that I am missing in being in favor of the same exact mouse-point-and-click for changing cockpit knobs/switches/levers that is being used in 1.5.3 VR mode. Is there some ambiguity in what gets changed? Is it hard to see some of the clickable elements? Why would using my nose as a pointer be better? If I understood what the yellow rectangle represented and how ED thinks it can be used, I would really like to try it out so as to compare it - but I can't make that work well at all. The yellow rectangle "chooser" disappears when I look at the center console in the Huey. Fortunately, I use voice control and HOTAS buttons for many things. But someone in the DEV group must have thought there was a better way than the mouse. Dave
-
@SkateZilla, Thanks for informing us about the update to 2.0.2 today (4/29/16) that fixed the viewpoint hang at the end of a mission - much better! I am still confused about the yellow rectangle - I can change some things with it by pointing at a knob and then using the mouse wheel but I don't get how to change a switch (left click??). Also, when I look down at the center console, the yellow rectangle disappears anyway. Of course, I want the mouse-driven clickable 3D cross back anyway - it worked fine - I don't like using my head as a pointer. Are you sure there isn't a config file edit to either just disable the yellow rectangle (it destroys the immersion, as they say) or return to mouse driven clicks which still works in nonVR mode. As has been mentioned, the loss of focus to other apps is quite annoying. It's Alpha and I will live with the issues as they fix them - it is a wonderful looking experience in VR. Heli flying is superb! Thanks Dave

If you are running 2.0.2, try a solo, late dusk environment in downtown Las Vegas at low altitude. ED fixed the night lights (they were wrong for one eye before) and maybe start already in the air near the Stratosphere. Really nice!! I edited the file star.fx ( in Bazar\shaders ) so as to reduce the size of the supernova stars. Also, set up a button for the cheat Autopilot so you can just admire the scenery at low altitude. And turn the searchlight on (Rctrl+";") and extend it forward("8") a few times.

Please, please, please restore ASAP the mouse-cross cockpit activation device that used to work (and still does in 1.5.3)! Has anyone found the option (to switch back) in a config or lua file? I cannot control the cockpit much at all with the head-mouse. Some switches don't activate. When I click (particularly far away switches), sometimes the OVR_Home(or some other app) window appears on top of the DCS windows and I lose focus and then I have no control. The mouse pointer should not lose focus! Am I trying to use the head-pointer correctly - i.e. hover over the cockpit switch with the little yellow rectangle (how do you get rid of it) and then click the left mouse button? It's very frustrating - fortunately, I chiefly control the cockpit with voice control and HOTAS buttons - but I still have the yellow rectangle in the center of my focus. I really appreciate the wonderful smoothness of the Time Warp, but this new (unappreciated) head-pointer just is an annoyance and keeps me from demoing this new release to others. @SkateZilla - please make this problem very clear to ED - if you can - thanks
