Why is my E-bracket stuck so high up in the HUD?
Bearfoot replied to Bearfoot's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Thanks for the responses. Yep, I figured from other folks with first-hand experience to ignore the E-bracket to work the pattern/recovery, and from reading figured it worked differently than the Hornet. Was still wondering why it was stuck up at the top. Your responses helped me figure that one out too: Even though my pitch angle was in the ballpark, I was going (way) too fast! I guess that's why it's called "on speed" and not "on pitch"!!! -
The simple answer is, of course, that I am an idiot and a crappy flyer (would not want to use the term "pilot"). I would still like to know "why" as in the mechanics of what I might be doing wrong. OK, I've read that we should just use the AoA and ignore the E-bracket when landing. I can work with that. But the OCD imp in me wants to know why is my E-bracket all the way up there? I know my AoA is not correct, but it's not THAT incorrect is it? I have to pitch up 80-90 degrees to get the waterline with the E-bracket? I thought it might be my speed, that E-bracket stays up there even when I bring my speed down to 200 knots.

Suggestion/Request: Have Jester Call Out Energy States
Bearfoot replied to Bearfoot's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Makes sense, thanks. The only reason it occurred to me is because of Bio's book, as the other poster mentioned, but that was only in the context of BFM not landing. -
Jester does a good job with contact bearing/range on first acquisition or lock. Now and then, he provides updates. But this seems random and not always at the correct time. (1) Is there an option to force Jester to provide updated reports on all contacts? Perhaps filtered by some options, e.g.: report all; report hostile only; report unknown only; report friendly only? (2) Request/suggestion: can we get an option to have Jester continuously provide update on hostile contacts (e.g., every 30 seconds)? I know we can in principle see this information in the TID. But I have to drop my head into the cockpit and zoom in (poor resolution in VR) :( Would love to have more support from Jester so I can keep my eyes looking out ....

Either in BFM or recovery/landing, it would be nice to have an option for Jester to call out speed/altitude (or just speed) every XX seconds (10, 30, 60, 120, etc.).

Four scenarios: (1) TWS has targets up ahead, classified, prioritized (2) TWS has targets up ahead, classified, prioritized AND supporting Phoenix missles in the air toward them (3) Target is in STT lock (4) Target is in STT lock, and supporting Sparrow in the air toward them In which of these scenarios do I have to explicitly command Jester to rotate the radar azimuth to keep the targets painted while I crank (say 30-45 deg either way)? I am hoping that for (2), (3), (4) Jester or the radar system would do this automatically for me without me requesting?

I love them both. I got started first on the Huey. Took tens? dozens? of hours to get comfortable on this ride. Then transitioned to the Mi-8. Much quicker, but not because it was easier, but because I already had the previous experience. In fact, despite it's stability system, I think the Mi-8 is a lot more difficult to do the tough things in --- hover, sling loads etc. The Huey is much more easier to control when it comes to the challenging stuff like this. This is almost certainly due to its relatively lighter weight. Level flight is the same in both. I will say that I now end up with the Mi-8 more for five reasons: (1) The Huey just seems out of place in the Caucasus or the PG, while the Mi-8 fits right in. In fact, the Mi-8 fits right in everywhere. (2) I've never flow a real helicopter. But if I can talk about the "feels", I have to say the Mi-8 "feels" better. it has inertia. A heavy bird. For heavy work. And I like that feel. (3) Gunship mode is awesome. So much more fun in Huey just for the sheer amount of firepower. And a whole lot more difficult to put rounds on target. (4) The campaign(s). These are awesome as well. Really, really, really, really, really immersive. Well written and great storyline. (5) The Mi-24 is coming. The Mi-24 and the Mi-8 are like the Ghost and the Darkness, Bonnie and Clyde, Thelma and Louise. [yes, I know that the Cobra is also in the pipeline ... but that seems even further off]. Also note: the Mi-8 is just as iconic as the Huey. Perhaps more so, to more people, over a greater period of time, and in many more different ways. The (Soviet) Afghan war, of course. But also the numerous bush wars in Africa. And still in action/service today in one form or another in large numbers around the world. I still hop in the Huey now and then. And when I do, I definitely crank up CCR.

I got the clicking when installing stronger tension (double springs, like yourself, cannot remember the #). In the 50-gazillion post VKB stick thread, a couple of other folks noted the clicking with the stronger tension as well. So I just assumed it was normal. Weirdly, the clicking is either gone now or I have just tuned it out.

[REPORTED] RWS radar stabilization and tracking loss
Bearfoot replied to KungFu's topic in Bugs and Problems
If you can, you should probably open it up as a new thread so it is recognized as a valid issue not buried here on pg 9 of a separate (and also valid) issue! -

Ah, interesting. Weird how it pops up for me ONLY in MP .... -
[REPORTED] RWS radar stabilization and tracking loss
Bearfoot replied to KungFu's topic in Bugs and Problems
As I noted, in my case this bug only occurs in MP. I think it would be helpful for folks reporting this bug to clarify whether or not this is the case for them. Otherwise devs/testers reading this thread may assume (reasonably) that SP vs MP does not matter and, upon testing and being unable to reproduce the bug in SP, dismiss it. So maybe (a) edit the the first and for that matter all previous post to note that the bug occurs in MP and (b) highlight it with "[EDIT: MP ONLY]" to draw attention to it? -

Ok. just encountered this. But ONLY in multiplayer. Been playing SP for a while with no issues. First time I took the Hornet into MP and locked a target up, encountered this issue. -

Not an MD, but I agree 100% on all counts. Sea(car/air)-sickness is your vestibular system telling your brain you are moving but your eyes not agreeing. VR-sickness is the opposite but the same effect: your eyes telling your brain you are moving but your vestibular system not agreeing. Will be really curious to see if conditioning for one helps with the other (i.e., will someone with firmly established VR-legs not get sea-sick or vice versa)! And yes, low frame count definitely makes things worse, to the point that even if you are used to VR a frame rate drop can still make your queasy
-
You will probably get motion sickness. But you will also definitely get over it. Might take a week or two, but you will get over it. No dramamine required. Just go easy at first, and ramp up slowly. (1) air-start and gentle level flight in a pleasant-to-fly bird, like the F-18, F-5, A-10. No turns, and don't look around. Just start straight-ahead. If you get sick, stop. Take a break. Like down. Try again in an hour or even the next day. (2) try some gentle banks. Keep looking right ahead. As before, don't push it past you comfort zone, but take it as far as your comfort zone allows. (3) build up to more aggressive manouevering. Try some sight-seeing (including turning your head to look around). Instead of taking a break when you feel a little queasy, pull back straight and level and look out straight ahead and see if that helps you; if it does, carry on, if it doesn't than, yes, indeed go ahead and take a break and continue. It took me about a week for the main hump and then a little bit longer to iron out all the little bumps. Now it's simply not an issue. Definitely stay away from helos till you've gotten your VR legs, though!

Hi, this looks amazing. Is there a link for the mission itself?

Could you post a link to this mission? Found this: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=211557 But the link is to the mod, not the mission -

Think he is thinking of a helo (based on reading his "copper" as a mis-spelling for "chopper")
