  1. Did you mean that you got it to work when you were not in AA mode, or that it only worked when you were in AA mode? According to the manual, it (assuming by "it", you mean SCS FWD takes your to BST) should work when you are NOT in AA mode as well (as long as you are also not in AG mode). Also, while in ACM mode, does SCS RIGHT take you back to RWS?
  2. In the central display, the AMPCD, how do I disable to colorful map background and show just the HSI? Thanks.
  3. 1. The manual says: "When in Beyond Visual Range (BVR) mode, pressing the Sensor Control Switch will set TDC control to the RADAR when on the right DDI. Pressing the Sensor Control Switch to the right when the TDC is already assigned to it will place the RADAR in Auto Acquisition (AACQ) mode". BUT: I find that the above ONLY works when I am in A/A mode. If in NAV mode (not A/A and not A/G), and starting from RWS mode, pressing the SCS once will indeed set TDC control to the radar on the right DDI. But no amount of subsequent pressing takes me to AACQ. I have to explicitly select A/A mode to get this behavior. 2. The manual also says that when in BVR mode, pressing the SCS forward should "Switch to Air Combat Maneuvering (ACM) mode with Boresight being selected by default". Again, I do not get this when in NAV or A/G mode. I have to select A/A to get this behavior. 3. The manual also says that when in ACM modem Sensor Control Switch Right should "Exit ACM mode to Return To Search (RTS)". This, too, does not work for me. I have to select A/G or deselect A/A to get return to RWS. All the other ACM submodes can be selected using the SCS as per the manual, however. So, basically it seems that for (1) and (2), I can only get the SCS to behave the way it is described by the manual when I am in A/A mode. But my reading of the manual implies that it should also work if I am in NAV mode (i.e., A/A mode not selected). Similarly, for (3) -- I cannot use the SCS to RTS without commanding another mode. Am I missing something?
  4. Thanks, Sokol1. Frankly, I would like to see: (a) An official advisory/communication regarding this, with specific details on what the issues are, symptoms, and mitigation measures and (b) A notice on what we (early adopters/buyers) can or should do should any problems arise associated with these "durability" issues arise, including whether we are covered by warranty, honor, or whatever
  5. Hi, What are these durability improvements, or, to put it another way, what are the durability problems that the first round of buyers are facing or going to be facing? What should we be careful about?
  6. Interesting! Thanks for sharing. Lots of lovely detail, including this one: "Contrary to some lore, the Mi-24 can hover"
  7. The center because: (1) It's the only way you can reasonably have an extension, and an extension simply puts you in another universe of precision from which there is no comparison. (2) You can hold the stick with your left hand while your right does something else (e.g., scratch that spot on your back, move the cat off the keyboard, grab a drink, etc.) (3) It's the way all helos, all WW2 birds, and all current and forseeable DCS aircraft have it IRL, thus maximizing fidelity, authenticity, and immersion (above-mentioned drinks and cats non-withstanding ...). I've gone center. There's no going back.
  8. As does the USS Midway museum in San Diego: https://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g60750-d531819-i257104327-USS_Midway_Museum-San_Diego_California.html
  9. The Kalamazoo AirZoo in Michigan has one:
  10. I've written DCS TROOPSHIP to deal with these issues. The actual "troopship" bit may be a little obsolete/redundant if troop pick up works OK natively now. But folks may find the troop "C&C" (Command and Control) ship support useful: order troops to zones, directions (e.g., North for 2.5 klicks), advance to contact (engage nearest enemy), pop smoke, report status etc. https://github.com/glyphoglossus/dcs-troopship.git
  11. For me, the biggest reason I went with the Rift was NOT for the immersion or the feeling of "being there". It is simply because my head was pointing where I thought it was pointing. The 1-to-1 mapping of head movement to perspective means COMPLETELY natural, intuitive sense of 3D space. And that is HUGE for SA. With enough time, training, experience, practice, etc. folks get really good at dealing with the TIR abstraction, to the point where it makes no difference. But it is an abstraction, and it is a learned skill that neither gains from experience in the real world nor translates to experience from the real world. So you could dogfight for a living in an F-5E IRL for a decade, but until you master the false "sim-ism" of TIR, you are going to not be your best, and chances are you are going to suck for a long time. Get VR. Your eyes will hate you, but your brain will thank you.
  12. These instructions worked for me perfectly: http://forum.vkb-sim.pro/viewtopic.php?p=28475#p28475
  13. Update! I linked to the thread instead of the post above. The labels you want --- that ALL we VR users want --- are given in THIS post: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3163055&postcount=12 This is damn near perfect to make up for visibility without being in your face immersion-breaking text flying at 20K feet at Mach 2. In fact, you will not know you are using labels at all: just little grey dots that emerge from the distance until the object is close enough to take on multipixel geometry (whereupon the grey dot goes away quietly and seamlessly). Kudos to VampireNZ. I would up-rep him if I could!
  14. Same. Though both have been reported, from the impossibility to balance gamma so that outdoors looks fine in day and cockpit is not too dark (as in black hole) at night, to the yellow fog (https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3375443#post3375443). Also, light "spill" is next to non-existent, so flashlights etc. do not work properly.
  15. You can (I think) set font size with the label options in the file linked above, which should do the trick?
  16. Modifying labels is the way to go. The labels options/API have been improved considerably since the above, and now there are so many nice things to tweak. One of the best mods exploiting all of these can be found here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3163055&postcount=12 Improvements include: centering the dot on the a/c rather than offset, visibility fading with distance, smaller font size, etc. etc.
  17. Yes! I was wondering if it was just me, because I could not find anyone else reporting the same thing, and was just about to open a new thread when I saw this. Definitely weird yellow/brown-green cast to fog.
  18. Assuming the firmware is up to date, all you need to is calibrate: https://vkbcontrollers.com/?p=7982
  19. Maybe delete the "_downloads" subfolder in the 1.5.x DCS installation directory and try again? And before that, for sure, uninstall 2.0, and (then) delete the folder if still there as well as the "Saved Games/DCS 2.0 Alpha" folder -- you won't need it!
  20. The C-130's true little sibling, in service/experience/age, and, most importantly, in spirit, is indubitably and unequivocally and absolutely the DHC-4/C-7 Caribou: And, apart from the 2-engine/4-engine thing, in terms of the scale of the DCS maps, a much better fit! But, whether C-130, DHC-4, or C-27J, I'll take it!
  21. You might need to check your vision ;) The OH-6 would be a first-day buy for me. As would any troop carrier: in fact, I would rather have a UH-60, CH-47, CH-53, V-22, etc. over the Hornet any time, any day, in a heartbeat.
  22. For fixed-wing, I am think that instead of the C-130 the Caribou might be a better fit ... except, I thought that ED has categorically rejected ever supporting multiple-engine a/c in DCS World? So, maybe the questions should be what single-engined non-combat a/c do you want to see? EDIT: I realize that we already have multiple multi-engine a/c in DCS World -- e.g, from the A-10C to the F-15. So maybe what I read was that 4-engine would not be supported? Or was that for WW2 only?
  23. V-22 Osprey !!! And/or: Mi-26, UH-60, CH-47!
  24. This happened to me once. I jiggled all the cables in their jacks, taking them out and pushing them in securely, etc., then recalibrated everything and that got everything working and has been working ever since.
  25. I, too tried lubing up the collar, using dry electronic safe lube. Worked for a short while, and then back to catching/sticking. Finally, I removed the collar AND the spring and hooked up 4 external springs instead. It worked .... OK. No center bump and smooth, with decent enough precision. But honestly, I am glad to have left all that behind ... I now have a VKB Gunfighter Pro II, but even the TMWH + 20 cm extension (and ONLY wit the 20 cm extension) did a lot better.
