  1. It's because the shkval doesn't work like the real one does. It's just cheap Arma level crap. The REAL shkval works by contrast lock. You adjust the screen to get the best contrast, then you size the tracking gates till they are slightly larger than the target, and put them around the target. This tells the shkval where to look for a target. When the shkval sees the target, the gates will shrink and surround the target, and the EO will lock on it. Dark colored aircraft in a day sky should be EASY to lock. It's the ground targets with their camo paint and such that should be a hard lock.
  2. Just do like I do. Turn all your graphics settings down. I have mine on all low. Play with a 7 year old computer that gives me between 30 - 100 fps. It's not bad when you get used to it. Save your money and wait for computer parts to come down in price. They're ridiculous right now.
  3. Yeah, this is why we need Igla's on a third rail. Quick defense. The shkval right now is a joke. We need real Electro-Optical systems.
  4. I believe that is what Battlefield Productions was considering in one of their latest posts. Lower end models or some such for people who didn't own them. Some type of compromise, so people didn't get locked out of server play. Though personally, I think around 90% or more people who play DCS play only single player.
  5. >> I want something. >> I don't want to pay for it. THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS. This is what destroys other major sims. People waiting around for years for semi, hazily promised stuff that never appears because said people didn't want to pay for it. These people aren't ED. They are coming in to build what ED did not. The Ground. So you are going to have to pay them to do it, the same as you pay ED for planes. If you want to play on the servers, you're going to have to buy the assets they are using. The Ground is what is going to bring people to DCS. Imagine eventually playing ARMA and CRYSIS like mods in DCS. THAT is what is going to bring people to this sim. And many of them will be willing to PAY for it. Imagine playing something like Crysis' Power Struggle in a DCS:World mod. Ka-50's vs. Apaches in a map with varying terrain, buildings, canyons, etc. People running around with stingers and igla's trying to take control of various areas. Player controlled study-level sim tanks, IFVs, APCs, SAMs, and AAA prowling the area. A Massive Realistic Sim FPS. A DREAM a lot of people have had for YEARS. Yeah, I know infantry and such will probably start as a more RTS style control, like Combined Arms, but I hope to eventually reach full FPS. And the more people that come in, the more DCS and the Third Parties can make. Then, maybe the prices will start coming down a bit, to draw in more and more.
  6. Yeah, decent models, but it's like I've described before. They just stand there like cardboard cutouts. Good video!
  7. Uh, they are looking for interest and are in contact with ED. I would hardly call them larpers. I would ask, why are some of you so AFRAID of modeling more than just aircraft? It's called dcs WORLD for a reason.
  8. If your stuttering, check where your pagefile is. Should be on your fastest SSD. My game was stuttering the other day, and I found out Windows, in it's Ultimate Wisdom, had moved the paging file to one of my large storage drives.
  9. Yeah, but it takes money to run these sims. So you're going to find that a lot of us that play aren't that worried about graphics, especially right now with the World going crazy and everything doubling and tripling in price. When you're poor, you learn to live with the lower graphics and get used to them. I'm much more interested in frames - per - second / systems / realism / bug fixes right now. Graphics are very nice, but they're icing. I can see your point about the textures ( though I only have limited knowledge of that stuff ). Can't it be crunched down by you guys though and then just put back in? Interested to see what results you get. My biggest problem with this sim right now is that there is no Realistic Electro-Optical system. The Shark, which is my main goto module, is completely built around this system, and it's basically "playing with Barbie dolls level". It's complete garbage, and really just a place holder. It's the same with the Maverick system, which the A-10C is basically built around. I'll probably open a thread up to concentrate on that alone, later.
  10. Yeah, I remember hearing that. I think it was a flash in the pan that got dumped for one reason or another. You can still walk around with the arrow keys, but it's very stiff. Would love to see an "ARMA" like character that can jog and walk around the land.
  11. Oh, you'll get it again. Just kill the process, and start over. It usually works after killing it once. Some bug they have yet to fix.
  12. I think it's mostly the people with older CPU / GPU that are freaking out. But we all knew this day would come. My setup is 7 years old. Saw I was getting 100 fps at all low settings / 1080p the other day. Some old Intel CPU and a GTX-770. Yeah, I want to turn up the graphics, and I need to upgrade, but prices are insane right now. But hey, I'm still getting 100 fps at all low. COMPLETELY playable, and I know within a year or two, prices will come back down to normal levels. Just got to be patient. There is No reason for ED to slow down their progress. Carry on guys!
  13. If your getting stutter, check where your paging file is. Make sure it is on your fastest drive, preferably an SSD one. I was just having problems with mine. For some reason, Windows decided to move it from my SSD to one of my slowest data drives. Couldn't figure out for a while why my hard drive was making so much noise, and I was getting so much stuttering. Moved it back to my System SSD drive, and all is well now. Lol @Nealius. No one is gatekeeping dude. I feel your pain and frustration too. The World is getting pretty BAD. But the show must go on. I can't afford real HOTAS controls. So I make due with what I can. I play with a 7 year old computer and GPU. I'm old, half-dead, and broke. It's probably the end of upgrading DCS for me if I can't afford to get a new computer. I'll have to stick with the old versions. Is the World supposed to stop just because some people's computers can't take it anymore? Sorry, that's not how it works. Should ED see if they can increase performance where they can? Sure, and I hope they will. If something is crazy, I certainly hope they repair it. This gets into very complex discussions on the pro's and con's of Capitalism, Socialism, etc. ED is a business looking to sell a product. That means pushing into the Future. As adults, we have to make hard decisions. Do I want to spend all my money on my hobby, or do I want to eat today? You have to balance it. What's great is that when I can afford it again, one day, the new technological innovations will be there to enjoy. Right now, my computer is having FPS issues with a lot of new games. It's old. Do I want to spend the money to upgrade it? I don't know. It's a hard decision. The future in my Country right now is not looking great. I guess I don't know really what to say. What is ED supposed to do? Just stop upgrading the product?
  14. I get this problem on multiple games. One way that seems to help is to put my game in windowed mode. It helps a little. I don't know why. Just discovered it by accident. EDIT: Been having this problem also with DCS and I just checked whether clicking full screen makes a difference or not. Doesn't seem to on DCS. What really helped was setting all the anti-alias stuff to maximum. I can't remember all the names, there's like three of them. Set to 4X, ON, and 2X. Also set textures to high, and cockpit resolution to 1024. Left everything else at lowest. Still a slight bit of shimmering, but much better. Unfortunately, I went from 60-70 fps to 8 fps, so . I'll have to see if my old GTX-770 has that Profile Inspector above and try it.
  15. From Reddit - Blaster_DE To delete the files, use the trashcan symbol in the DCS module manager or remove the modules by command line with "dcs_updater uninstall module_name", you can even put multiple module names separated by blanks.
  16. Hmm, well, that's something I would have to study. I don't understand textures and such well, but I get your point. I'm just saying I think some of you are going a little too far with your concerns about being able to actually run it. It can be run, just at low levels. Now, if it can be optimized to run better, sure, I'm all for that. And maybe ED needs to take some time and look at that. But I also don't want to lose the graphics quality that ED has seemed to gain of late either. And also remember, that while compression saves memory, it takes up CPU / GPU cycles to decompress it! So, the trade off may not be worth it. But then again, I have never studied texture compression, so I don't know how much trade off it costs. Right now, I'm happy that they are talking dynamic campaign, a third party is looking at the ground, and they seem to be quickly moving ahead after a long period of doing very little. There is also probably a difference in opinion because I'm a ground pounder that flies heli's and the A-10C. I'm sure being high up in a Fighter may affect things computer wise very differently, so I really don't know about that. You may be taking in much more of the World than I am at near ground height. I rarely go over a few hundred feet high. So, in the end, these are the opinions of a heli pilot.
  17. Well, both my cpu and gpu are 7 years old, I have 8 gb ram, and I still manage to hit 60 fps at 1920x1080 @ all low settings. So, even if it halves that, I'll still get 30 fps which is probably minimal to fly. But I plan on upgrading everything in a year or two when prices come down. So I'm good with the new minimums, and hopefully Vulcan helps out somewhat. This sim was not meant for poor people, sorry. I've been saving up for a couple of years now for a new computer, mainly just to play DCS. I'm old, out of a job, and flat broke, but am cheering DCS on all the way. They are finally starting to push it, and going beyond what they were. I can see that one day, they're going to bring in vehicle and FPS simulation, at the rate they are going. Look at the graphics on Mariana's. I just wish they would release their mapping tools so we could work on our own custom maps. DCS isn't even the real problem. It's the HOTAS and rudders, and if you want a cockpit, etc. That's where the REAL costs start coming in. I play with a joystick that was made for Radio Control training. It's works decent for now. Just had to repair it the other day by shoving some paper shims in it, because the stick got loose. I'm hoping one day to be able to afford VKB or Virpil mid grade HOTAS. And speaking of bitcoin miners, did you guys see that Nvidia is going to cut them off in the new 3060? That should help somewhat! They're going to make a special 3060 for mining that can't be used for gaming. I doubt if most people will be interested in it, so it should free up chips somewhat.
  18. Well, no one has to download it. It would take ED what?, about 5 minutes to make? Let those who want sea battles have it.
  19. Yeah, I have an old GTX-770. Already hitting about 60 fps on low graphics. If I drop to 45 or so, no HUGE deal. I prefer DCS to keep on moving forward. Graphics cards will eventually come down in price. Besides, you don't HAVE to upgrade. Just wait until you can buy a new machine that can handle it.
  20. Good! Now block all the new 3080's as well!
  21. Hah! Yeah, I was thinking about this the other day. How easy a map would that be?
  22. Hopefully, the new Battlefield Productions 3rd party guys will make this happen. Even if there is no FPS yet, I really would just like a pilot that can move around the battlefield in an FPS type of way. Maybe be able to jump into working aircraft that you own. And into vehicles if you have Combined Arms.
  23. Actually, I have a (all components) 7 year old computer with a GTX-770 in it, and I can hit 60 FPS at all low with Ka-50. So, graphics are still well within decent bounds for modern video cards. Go ahead and push it DCS! Besides, aren't we getting Vulcan around 2.7ish or so? And just give it a few months. GPU production will catch up with demand, and prices will start coming down again. We've just got to hold out and be patient.
