Before we talk about ragdoll physics, we need to get some REAL intelligence down there. Not idiots that just stand there like cardboard targets, taking fire and dying. Before we talk about ragdoll physics, we need to get some REAL intelligence down there. Not idiots that just stand there like cardboard targets, taking fire and dying. For instance, the other night I was flying the Ka-50 in the instant action mission that has you attack the small village. There are two APC's and a truck at one point. They see me, but just sit there. I destroyed one APC, and was actually surprised that the other did move a few feet. But I get the feeling that is scripted. The truck just sat there, waiting to die. 1) They should have tried to move for better cover / position when I got near. 2) When one of them was destroyed, the other two should have bugged for cover, or tried at least to get to a better defensive position. Infantry still just seems to mostly stand around, or wait in the open for attack. When they see enemy approaching, they should run for cover, or set up for a defensive stand.

Yeah, except I have an RC controller for a joystick, which means I have to take my hand off the collective ( which is also the rudder), and that doesn't work. I'm just going to have to save up one day, and get a real HOTAS. I don't even have a fire button. I have to use the keyboard. I'm thinking about taping a mouse to the floor and hitting the button with my toe to fire. :p

"itch" It seems your G key is not working. :music_whistling:

Yeah, its the lighting I think I have the most problem with, as it completely obliterates the textures. It makes the dials look painted on and simple, and everything else is just black (or blinding white). Lowering the cockpit graphics in settings seems to help, and at low, you can actually see the old textures. So, I'll try and experiment with adjustments. I wondered about the shape of the new cockpit, as it is slightly different than the old one, but I've seen a picture of the real cockpit online now, that seems to closely match it. So I guess it is realistic. I like the new cyclic. Looks more realistic. However, the slip balls (the ones that show if your moving sideways) need some graphics work.

Actually, I'm the NON - VR. But it's not like ED's going to do that anyway. Still trying to get some time to tweak the cockpit graphics. If you set it low graphics, you don't get the blinding light, darkness, and reflections, and you can see it actually does have some textures on it.

Ka-50 has always been that way. Your sitting in a high tub of armor. As you lean back in your seat, the armor rises up to protect your head. You have to lean forward to look through the windows. It works well. Remember, this is slow and low, so you need all the protection you can get. Especially against 20 and 23mm arms fire.

One thing I have noticed, with the new cockpit, it seems to lock targets better and at a longer range than it did before. I don't know if that's because it's going on contrast now or not. I had all kinds of problems locking targets with the old one, even up close. So that, at least, is welcome.

It's on. You can see in the little strip of turquoise color at the bottom, it turns slightly cloudy white. Well, a tiny bit of it does. It shows up better in my screen, but yeah, very hard to tell. The button needs to light up or something. It's like they've ditched the original Ka-50 cockpit, and are now just kind of doing whatever they want. Please stick to the original, ED.

Well, if your deleting mods and such, the best way to clear everything up is just bin\dcs_update repair Then hit yes when it ask you if you want to del all external files. Fixes everything.

Kailux, you're childish insults are getting a little tiring. Yes. We are customers. Not fanboys on some free mod. ___________________________________ Well, I'm trying to get used to it. Can we PLEASE get a toggle for those burned in reflections on / off? And anti-glare coating on the dials / shkval. @=4c=Nikola - Thanks for the translate mouse button! I had forgotten I could do that. Edit: The more I look at this new cockpit, I think the thing that is bothering me the most are the textures ( or really, lack there of ). Still not liking it. Looks xboxish. That, and it (the cockpit) seems to be narrower.

Yeah, this is what I feel. Like I'm too far away, and too far up ( I can actually see that now in the comparison shots. I'm looking much higher over the hud now). It also looks "fish eye", if you know what I mean. I'm guessing that has something to do with FOV. Never have messed with that. I'm thinking this is something that was done to improve VR. If you compare the dials from earlier cockpit and new, they definitely look like they have been simplified. Why can't we keep the old dials? They were perfect. Also, buttons and switches look simplified. Everything is too clean and "xboxish". English wording looks like a tossed in afterthought. The shkval is narrower. Whole cockpit seems narrower, which is proved on that post with the two cockpits overlayed. Cramped. The digital counter for rockets left looks "xboxish". Here are my comparison screenshots, and below that, another user overlayed them for comparison. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4221132&postcount=121 Is there anyway to shift your camera view in the cockpit and change FOV?

Gee, thanks for calling anyone who doesn't lke the new cockpit crybabies. Oh yeah, "back in the day". You do realize I only own the A-10 and the Shark? So guess what I've been flying all these years? That's SO MATURE. That's really going to sell your module. Yes. There are people like me who do not like the Completely New Look. ED, please give us the option of keeping the old cockpit. Yeah, some of the same complaints I have. Hard to read dials, that sometimes seem completely dark. That, and they seem a lot simpler than the old ones. Just look at my comparison screens a few pages back. Shadows going from pitch dark to blinding reflection. That, and the cockpit feels squeezed in on me. Feels COMPLETELY different. Hope you don't get called a crybaby as well. I think this was all changed for VR. It feels like I am hovering above the cockpit, instead of sitting in my seat. The dials look smaller, simplistic, and more distant. Switches look smaller. I don't have VR. x

You can look at my comparison shots, and obviously see what I mean. I'll take dials I can read over graphics trickery anyday.

If anyone else wants to go back to the old cockpit, you can call up a command window, and go into your 'bin' directory. Type the following command dcs_updater update 2.5.6.43503@openbeta Then do repair dcs_updater repair This should bring you back to the version right before the cockpit change, and your old cockpit.
-
And that is a major part of the problem. Not only are the dials not as good as the ones on the old cockpit, you can't even see them half the time. Fine for the less serious, but I fly by instruments. And overall, at least to me, it doesn't look real.
-
Yeah, about the level I thought I was dealing with.
-
Wrong thread dude. The ass kissing one is that-a-way.
-
The problem is, there needs to be two cockpits. One for VR, and one for normal players.
-
HATE the reflections. They've messed up more than one of ground attacks. Any decent pilot would cover it with a non-reflective coating.
-
OBVIOUSLY, they have completely changed the cockpit. In my opinion, for the worse. It doesn't even look real anymore. I think it is to please the VR crowd.
-
Why is there such a HUGE difference in the cockpits? New Cockpit Old Cockpit Dials in old Cockpit look real. Dials in new cockpit look like a painted on after-thought. Both of these are at the same graphics settings, with medium textures and low shadows, both at 1600 daytime. ED, please give instructions on how to get the old cockpit back.

Updated Black Shark Cockpit: Beautiful!
3WA replied to sleepycanuck's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It's the praise thread for the people who like it. Let 'em have it. -
Personally, it looks like they did the "least possible". Hopefully, the old bugs ( that have been around FOREVER) are fixed, at least. But yeah, it's annoying. Looks like they're saving whatever they have for BS3. My guess is they did it all toony to please the VR crowd. I'm considering whether to keep using the old cockpit or not.
-
Please post some screenshots of what your seeing. My graphics are maxed out to the point of near stuttering, and I still don't see it. I don't see depth in the dials, etc. (I know they are a little shallow). It all looks very simple and toonish.
-
I've set graphics to the highest level, and set time to 17:00 hours to get more shadows, etc., but it still doesn't look great. Still low detail and toonish. Doesn't look anything like the helicopter video. I can't see buying a THIRD Blackshark if this is what were getting.
