  1. Thanks for the info!
  2. The F18 is limited to 7.5G when lightly loaded to lengthen airframe lifespan. Less G, less long term stress on a cost effective fighter. Could you rip heavy stores off at 9G? Sure. This just isn't modeled yet. That being said the airframe is rated for over 9G constant so you aren't going to damage the plane from using the switch. If you are over maneuvering speed the FBW will limit the G you can pull. I am sure you can damage hard points but you aren't going to tear the wings off. The override switch at this point just seems to put the FBW in a high G limit mode its still not giving you unlimited pitch control that I can tell. I haven messed with it that much though. In real life when a pilot brings plane back and the override switch has been hit the ground crew will tear into the plane to check for cracks and stress damage etc. Don't forget these planes take tons of abuse over and over hard landings and high G. Eventually something can crack or distort on planes with high hours. The limit is there so the plane lasts longer over time not because it cant deal with high G. Lifespan in Navy use is somewhere around 6000 hours with normal wear and tear. Some planes are lasting even longer. If you are living on that switch its going to be much less. Number of carrier traps etc reduce lifespan aswell. The other thing thats missing is a high G seat in the Hornet. Part of the reason the seat is reclined so much in the F16 is to help the pilot sustain more G. In the Hornet its much more vertical which makes pulling constant high G much harder on the pilot. Once the damage modeling is there ya people that abuse the switch are going to possibly damage the airplane in the fight. Plane is EA I have pulled over 25G and not torn or broke anything. Damage modeling for over G seems to be missing. That being said if your smart in a fight and hang around corner speed the F18 does well in a turn fight without even messing with the switch. If you need the switch you have probably done something very wrong and its last ditch to either evade or get your nose on a bandit. Either case the pilot surviving is more important then any plane damage that may occur.
  3. +1 I too hope that its limited to valid information during the flight. Hearing GOOD KILL or AWESOME SPLASH!!! over and over will get grating quick if you are say flying a training mission or flying with friends etc. I always loved how Falcon 4 used the Master Arm on etc from the F14 kills in the intro.
  4. Dug if you are banking you are changing the center of lift. The wings don't generate the same vertical lift in a bank so you will need to add power to maintain vertical speed in a bank. Always add power when banking to maintain rate of decent etc.
  5. If you are engaging multiple targets you would use TWS not STT. TWS is not modeled yet. That being said theres no huge benefit to scanning 10 degrees right where the targets are. If you crank a bit you can still narrow down the search width and speed up the scan. If you have rough ALT you can reduce your Bar setting aswell which will speed up tracking targets. If you are WVR and cant wait 8-10 seconds to get a full scan then you should be in WACQ etc as they are so close you need to be exploring other options. By point your nose I mean to put them on your nose then you could reduce to very fast 40 degree scan. Again the only reason the radar scans small area when you lock is its switching modes and gathering information for STT. Its not setup to say scan a 20 degree field 40 degrees right.
  6. You would have to reduce the scan width and point your nose at what you are trying to scan. You cant slew the narrow scan zone. When radar is locking it is switching to STT mode and trying to get a good lock and data etc. You cant set it to act like that at this point. You can adjust vertical scan with how many bars are selected and change scan width but you cant slew it to a small area.
  7. David is right. I was watching a carrier aviation documentary and said they practice 300-400+ landings on land with arresting cables before even trying to land on carrier. So if you are having trouble practice more. I have been flying sims since 1992 and getting in the grove is taking me time and practice.
  8. I say get a plane you are most interested in flying. If you like the plane you are more inclined to learn it through and through. If you like the 18 the most get it. Some planes are much more complicated then others. That being said its a grind to learn a plane you don't really care about. The learning curve may be steeper with some but its much easier when you have a natural interest in that jet.
  9. This has been complained about quite a bit. Its Early days so sure FM will be tuned more and more. On final you are going to be moving throttle alot its like that in real life aswell. My feeling is the plane could use some more inertia. But you still will be working the throttles on final regardless.
  10. Reminds me of the classic F15 but so much better! CHEVY 2 IS ENGAGED DEFENSIVE SAM! CHAFF CHAFF! ${1}

    F-15E?

Thanks didn’t even know 15 had those tanks. Amazing to see the 15 out accelerate the 16 what a beast.
  12. The thing is that the US Mil doesn't use the same VOR/NDB/ILS etc navigation like civilians do. There are stations that give both VOR and TACAN on the ground in real life but not in DCS that I am aware of. Many military A/C cant even tune VOR stations and rely on other methods. The nice thing is in these A/C we have a moving aeronautical map so navigation is a cinch if you can read the map.
  13. 1. Press F11 look at map for Tacan stations. They are black triangular icons with dot in middle with 2 digit code. Take note of X or Y band. Some times they dont say X or Y these are always X band. 2. Tacan is Line Of Sight if you are to low or there is any obstruction you wont receive a signal. Also make sure to be on T/R mode for Transmit and Receive for range. They also have a maximum transmit range you wont pick one up 300 miles away. Use your compass and landmarks if no TACAN is available... 3.In mission editor under Advanced waypoint options you can add a command to turn on TACAN to a unit and assign a 2 digit freq make note of X or Y band. There seems to be a bug right now where refueling planes have the x and y band swapped sometimes. 4. Carrier ILS etc is still in BETA. When you fly over carrier in pattern make note of runway heading. Then hold CRS switch for few seconds to set heading bug to runway heading. Or after holding CRS switch for few seconds click CSEL on UFC to type in the exact heading and hit enter. This will give you a course line. THIS IS NOT AN ILS but merely a line through the TACAN at this heading. For F18 Tacan just hit TCN on UFC then hit ON/OFF button. Once default channel comes up hit CLR and type in two digit channel you want then hit enter. On map screen behind stick hit TCN on top left to display the info and bearing on your hud. To switch back to pre programmed way points hit the WPT on top right. The 18 also has a list of all TCN stations on map under DATA page on HSI.

    F-15E?

Sorry for dumb questions but what are CFTs? What’s the big difference between the D and Es?
  15. You guys had coolest paint jobs in Navy!
  16. G limiter can give additional turn performance but 18 will let you bleed of all the speed in high alpha. IRL if pilot hits the override plane has to be checked for stress cracks etc. The G limit is to extend the life of the airframe.
  17. F18 used to show the station code you were tuned too. Now it just shows distance after last patch. What am I missing?

    F-15E?

Is this going to be full fidelity? If so its a dream come true. Grew up flying Janes F-15 and Janes F/A-18 on JCN and HL. To have these in full fidelity would be crazy in a modern sim.
  19. Does it have to be recharged by ground crew? Or can it be recharged with bleed air or something on the plane?
  20. I feel that what’s missing is the plane needs to have some more weight to it. It almost acts as if it has very little inertia. Plane is 33,000lbs on landing and if u cut power at all you lose a lot of airspeed. Seems like there’s a lot of drag modeling from flaps but that the plane responds too fast for its weight. Also I think people get behind on the power curve and expect the plane to just speed right back up. It can’t dragging the gear and full flaps with very little intake pressure. Wing also has to get out of a stall and have clean airflow. This is why you never wanna get on the wrong side of the power curve. I also think a lot of it is due to not being able to feel the stick pressure and aircraft in the sim. Friend of mine is an F16 Pilot and plays hell landing in sims. It’s just all visual where real life you fly by seat of your pants. Carrier Traps make this even more difficult.
  21. Ill give that a try!
  22. Are these profiles something the pilot even sets or is it up to ground crew? Can the Nose Tail fuses be selected on the fly or delays? Or is this set by ground crew?
  23. Just wondered how this was properly done at airshows ect? Saw Wags do it on FM demo and wanted to try and learn it. Do you just shoot for a certain AoA? Flaps Auto Half? What kind of A/C weight you need to pull it off?
  24. Hey all I have tested this quite a few times and am seeing some strange behavior. I flew a couple times and stopped the EXT tanks from feeding then transferred just to see the behavior. Anyways for some reason fuel consumption went WAY UP. I thought maybe it was due to ALT Throttle setting etc. Figured it was just me. I decided to just test it on the ground at idle. So I loaded the plane cold on the ground with 75% internal fuel and a Full Center line tank. Start both turbines wait for APU auto shut off. Watching fuel burn and A/C weight it goes down around a pound every few seconds with engines idling. If I then switch the fuel tanks too Override all of a sudden the A/C weight goes from dropping a pound every few seconds to 10-20LBS a second and fuel total is descending at same rate. Not just the EXT Total from transfer the entire fuel load is dropping almost like its in full Mil power. Even switching back to NORM doesn't stop this. Its almost acting as if the Fuel dump is on. Even once the EXT tanks have transferred all their fuel to internal tanks the fuel burn rate is still off the charts at idle power and the A/C Weight is dropping at a high rate with no throttle changes. I am doing this all on the ground with 0 throttle changes with Park Brake on and just hitting the Tank select switches are causing the fuel consumption to go off chart and plane weight is dropping almost like Fuel Dump is on.
  25. I raised a few questions here in this thread. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=210940
