I shall be there! But unfortunately I can't organise my gear to travel the 1000kms, so instead I'll be a happy observer.

Been a fun week in prep for this things arrival. I needed 3 display port to DVI adapters for the monitors as the 7970HD card didn't come with adapters and the monitors aren't DP. Read lots about the active vs passive Display Port adapters but as mine are only 1080p monitors I didn't go for the expensive active ones. Cost me 75 bucks for 3 of them. I also over locked my CPU for the first time. Never even tried doing something like this. Went from 2.4 to 3.7GHz on a i7 920 on air cooler. I'm chuffed and enjoyed learning about the process. And lastly, preordered the r3volution, triple monitor mounts, side tables. Bought the Buttkicker unit, and a new Track IR5 with track clip pro. Now I just have to distract myself for the next month till it arrives.

The screens have now arrived for the R3volution (Come on Chris!!! Take my money already!!!!) Guys, I just bought a ASUS 7970 3 Gig GFX card, and plan to run 3 1080p monitors in Eyefinity and 1 1080p touchscreen monitor running Helios. I plan plan on overclocking my i7 920 CPU, it's now currently stock at 2.67 GHz. I also have 6 gig of DDR3 RAM Do you guys with these Obutto systems think this is enough? What can I expect? What should I update?

Starting to get all the kit to bolt onto this thing when it comes out. Just bought 3 x 27" view sonics (cheap at $255 each) as the main monitor. Just got to get a touchscreen, buttkicker, track ir5 and a video card to drive it... Damn this hobbys expensive.

I'm keen. Hoping to place an order in a few weeks for late July/August delivery. I'll have to learn how to set DCS up for 3 x 1080p monitors, and a centre mounted 22" touchscreen (on the wheel mount) running Helios. I'm not that savvy with this sort of stuff... time to start the learning curve again. Going to be fun playing with it though.

Paulrkii, please remove the 161 Squadron from the vSquadron roster for 2012 Hawgsmoke. The 161 SQN unfortunately cannot participate in the competition this year, but we look forward to possibly revisiting this idea in 2013. My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused the program organisers.

Download Teamspeak 3 Client, it's free. Go to the first post in this thread (or my sig) and add the address and port number (last 4digits) into TS3. Press connect. You must have a basic microphone. If you can play DCS then I'm sure you'll work this out :)

161 Squadron would LOVE to attend the 2012 Virtual Hawgsmoke. Count the Aussies in :)

Get together? 161 SQN Multiplayer
Deigs replied to Deigs's topic in Australian DCS Community's Australian DCS Community
Hey Taipan, now that the patch is out we have had a gret resurgance in pilots both A-10 & KA-50, keen to meet-up and have a fly? -
Mate we game in this channel at all hours, as do other guys from many nations. We have Chinese, UK, USA, Canadian and USA guys sharing this portal. At all hours. But due to the ebb and flow of gaming, sometimes there are 15 guys on at 1am in the morning or no one. It's a bit of luck really, and depends on the day. The thing is, if you are playing then jump in this TS3 channel and guys will join you if they are online. That’s the good thing about this. Brings the community closer, no matter what the pings are. It's getting bigger each week, but just log in and see what happens. The community is evolving.

Hi guys, I'm currently also seeking this book and looking to buy from anyone here who has finished with it. Any takers?
-
hahahahahahahahaha. I think I paid 420 AUS for mine.
-
Check the Wiki here, google the hell out of different groups, and just start playing casually on servers. Once you find a group that does the teaching/serious thing then sign on the dotted line.
-
Where are you located / be posting these from?
-
I think it's a great idea, and if the end product looks sturdy and reliable then I'd be interested in purchasing something like this.
-
I jumped into the DCS Community TS3 channels today, and just jumped into comms, got the password from the guys and had a game with strangers. It was awesome.
-
Had a great session this morning with Hammer, Bunny and the guys. Aussies and Americans, sure the time difference but with the right pings it was a hoot.

Awesome Vid!

talk me out of returning my TM Warthog HOTAS
Deigs replied to gear_monkey's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Dude, it's a base plate... I never even look at the thing, but unscrew those 4 little screws at the bottom. I've had my unit for awhile, I use it everyday and she's solid as a rock. I use the paddle thingy for comms in Teamspeak. I did need to put some sewing machine oil so it wouldn't squeek. So now it's perfect. Buy some pedals. Saitek Combat Pedals are nice, and cheap. You can't just give back a cool as stick on the premise that it might stop working one day. If thats the case... Don't buy a car... or a computer... or a hot water system. Stay the path, Luke. -
That did happen with us as well last week. But today we had the 4 slots full on start up and no issues. I just want to say, we LOVE this mission. Hit it hard all day on an open AEF 161 SQN server so the public could enjoy it too. Great fun.
-
Dragon, we at the 161 SQN LOVE this pack of yours. Spent a good 4 hrs doing the MP Night version. Thanks mate. Its a staple when we run out of things to play.

Torrent boys, please seed fellas. Helps us get it quicker (mine says an ETA of 2 weeks)

Monitor setup: 1 large screen <vs> 3 small screens
Deigs replied to Frazer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
One handycap I did get with gaming with such a big screen was that you are 2-3 meters away from the screen. You need to mount the Track IR on something about 1.5 meters away from your head, or it won't track (distance to get to see the light/clip). I had a lamp and blu takked the TRack IR to the mast off to the side. Did the trick. Also you don't release how big 55" screens are till they are in the loungeroom. It's like a table top on the wall. The benefit is when I've finished geeking out with DCS, I move my 'gaming chair' and the HOTAS mounts aside and we watch movies on this thing. It's just more versitile then 3 X 24 inch screens in my opinion. Also for a bit of trivia the 7 series 55 inch LED's use 90 dollars worth of electricity each year if they were on for 10 hrs a day (in Australia). How much electricity would 3 monitors plus your TH2Go use? -
Monitor setup: 1 large screen <vs> 3 small screens
Deigs replied to Frazer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Triplehead2go in digital edition is around $400 3 X 24" Monitors at $340 each Total outlay is $1420 not including the postage. Or You can buy a 55" LED TV I've been gaming on my samsung LED LCD Series 7 (which was about 2.5K) and it's amazing. Sure the resolution isn't the same as a monitor, but that means that the GFX card won't suffer to much. It's a big Image and looks sweet. Plus with the 2D to 3D inbuilt conversion with the glasses, it creates a greater field to depth with gaming. -
