  1. I just recently learned that not only have hard-kill suites (active armor) been in employed in combat already, but that it happened back in the 70's! The Soviets fielded their Drozd active defense suite in Afghanistan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drozd
  2. Obviously a bug...
  3. IIRC no airspeed indicator as well.
  4. Why is that strange? Based on your own wiki quote I'd say it makes perfect sense that we'll be refueling from the KC-135 rather than the KC-10.
  5. To be fair, the only reason that you have to have LOMAC installed prior to installing FC2 is for licensing reasons: Ubisoft still owns the rights to LOMAC and its expansion packs in the West, and they implemented the requirement, presumabely so that they could benefit from further sales of LOMAC. Note that the Russian version of FC2 does not require LOMAC to be installed. Why? Because LOMAC was originally released by a different publisher in Russia, and so Ubi has no rights there. Furthermore, I think it is correct to say that FC2 and DCS are "completely different simulators that only visually might look alike". The A-10C of DCS will be completely different than the A-10A of FC2 and before. You need only spend a few days with DCS:BS to see why that is so.
  6. To be honest I think that installing 1.02 directly over 1.01c, or any other version, should work fine most of the time. In fact, that's how I installed it, and haven't had any issues at all. The disclaimer + special instructions are probably there just in case some people have issues with installing the patch normally.
  7. In short, the A-10C was picked because ED had just completed a desktop A-10C sim for the Air National Guard, and they got the authorization to port their work into a high-fidelity consumer sim.
  8. Sorry man, but this :P:).
  9. Hmm, judging by the title, I'd wager the topic is regarding neither of those three.
  10. What freakoid weather systems? As SuperKungFu just said, and as I have also read, the current rate of earthquake occurrence is the same as in years past, it's just that it's getting more media attention. Have you seen any data to suggest that storms and floods in France are above the average? Lots of people from all over the world die in flash floods and storms every year.
  11. Crunch, I think you misinterpreted my post. I meant that I think you all are being pessimistic for assuming that we're not going to get compatibility between FC2 and DCS:A-10C. I think there's good reason to believe that we will have compatibility, as we do with Ka-50 now, for the reasons stated above.
  12. Man, I'm surprised how pessimistic you guys are, given how many times ED has pleasantly surprised us in the past year. I think ED is very well aware of the value of maintaining FC2 compatibility as they build up DCS, both in growing and in maintaining their player base. Furthermore, I don't think it would make very much sense to spend so many months getting FC2 out the door, and then abandoning it in less than a year.
  13. I'm more optimistic about FC2 compatibility. Look at it this way: FC2 and BS are currently running on very similar (if not the same) code bases. Heck there's even a Blackshark folder in the FC2 install directory. Therefore it stands to reason that any patch that makes BS compatible, should work for FC2 with only minor modifications. I know that in reality things are never quite that simple, especially for products as complex as these, but still I remain optimistic.
  14. Never mind spelling it correctly, many people still don't realize that DCS is the name of the product series, rather than the name of the developer.
  15. Wow, hard to believe that an "undetectable" imperfection in the nose cone was enough to make the difference between an easy recovery and loss of pilot and aircraft. Anyone else surprised by this?
  16. Are you patched to 1.0.2? You should see several servers.
  17. 1.02 installs over 1.00. You don't need 1.01.
  18. The mission-specific audio for the Deployment campaign only has Russian audio. No way to get it in English other than re-recording all the dialog yourself.
  19. 1. It's not giving you range to target, it's giving you emitter strength. This is a function of both the range to the emitter, and the emitter type. For example, a more powerful radar that's farther away might show up the same as a weaker radar that's closer. However, if you can identify the type of aircraft that's painting you, then you can indeed use the SPO to launch a HOJ shot in a jamming scenario, and this is a standard tactic. 2. The SPO will only track an active missile that's gone pitbull (autonomous guidance). Until then it will still be tracking the launching aircraft. So no, the beeping doesn't mean that it's tracking the missile, it only means that a missile has been launched. Unless of course its a short range fight, in which case the missile will go pitbull immediately.
  20. 1. The new A-10 project is, along with Black Shark, part of the DCS series. GG is saying that Black Shark already has realistic strobe lighting for its feature aircraft, so we can assume that its sequel will also feature realistic strobe lighting. 2. The new aircraft model isn't getting a "makeover", since, well, it's new, it hasn't existed in any ED game yet released, and so there's nothing to makeover.
  21. And make sure you're looking for servers on the Internet, rather than LAN (or Local). It's an option you can change on the join MP screen.
  22. Been a while since I've looked at the FC1 manual, but from what I remember of it, it's vastly different from the FC2 manual. If you have FC2 installed, you can find the manual in .pdf form in the install directory, so why not check for yourself?
  23. Well, as I also said in my first reply in this thread, it's literally been years since I've played the original LOMAC and FC1 :). I personally never used Ironhand's tutorials, I'm speaking more generally about .trk functionality. Once again, as far as I know only DCS and FC2 tracks can have custom audio messages.
  24. shackman, any .trk files you download are tracks that are meant to be played in game. .avi's and the like can be played outside of the game. As I said in my previous post, there are no voice overs in .trk's for LOMAC and FC1 because those games don't support that feature.
