  1. toby, you didn't answer my question. I understand that turning off the haze seems to improve the quality of distant textures. However, it also disable other graphical effects (afaik at least lighting and anisotropic filtering). Therefore my question remains; have you specifically checked if this problem remains when haze is enabled?
  2. Just curious, why do you set haze=0? If it's anything like LOMAC (which, considering that DCS uses the same engine, it probably is), disabling haze also disables a variety of other graphical effects, and texture filtering is among them. I would try setting haze back to the default value and see if that improves it.
  3. Alt-C toggles between cockpit interaction mode and view control for the mouse.
  4. Sounds like you're not lasing the target (since you're not getting ranging info). There is a button on the collective to lase the target. Do this after locking the target, and you should be good to go.
  5. The strategy in the Ka-50 is: if he's fired it's probably too late. Use terrain cover if you can.
  6. This isn't true, with proper technique you'll get smooth turns with all channels enabled. Smoother even, I'd bet, than what can be accomplished "manually".
  7. It's been mentioned a while ago. Note that the thread is more than a month old.
  8. Alt-C
  9. Because many missions do start with the helicopter 'cold'. It's completely up to the mission designer. Both Deployment and the new version of GoW (Georgian Oil War) contain cold start missions. Also, generally you'll be starting cold in multiplayer.
  10. Left corner of the lower center console. It's a three-position switch (On-Off-Retract). It's behind the cyclic stick.
  11. Check here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=36246 For more beginner reading, look here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=39015
  12. Situational awareness. You need to carefully read the briefings to learn where the enemy units are expected to be located and where friendlies will be located. And, during the mission, you must work to remain aware of your own location relative to the above.
  13. Sounds like this will solve your problem. You've probably turned the switch to Ground Crew, when it should be on VHF-2.
  14. Exclusively Black Shark since November.
  15. No. But have you tried Distiler's suggestion? I think this is a well known problem related to CatAI.
  16. This is a known issue, and it's been stated that HE power has been tweaked for the patch. So, I think the AP will remain about as effective as it is now (one or two bursts usually sufficient to take out a BMP), while the HE effect will be greatly reduced. Seems about right to me. By the way, my experience with AP rounds against BMP's is quite a bit different from yours. What I've seen is that it usually takes on the order of 5 AP hits to get a fire going. I've never been unable to take one out with AP. Incidentally, I actually took out an Abrams with the 30mm AP the other night in multiplayer. It took about 10 rounds from 500m, firing down directly onto the top turret armor. The Abrams was previously damaged by nearby 80mm rocket impacts, however.
  17. If I were you I'd just copy the layout of the actual Ka-50 sticks on your X52. That's what I did with my X52 on day one, and haven't looked back since. You can find the layout of the Ka-50 collective and cyclic in the manual.
  18. I think you've got it backwards. The "softer sound" is what you're supposed to hear when you're inside the cockpit. The bug is that pressing escape twice gives you the outside sound when you're inside. And, as you've discovered, you fix this by going into outside view and coming back. It can also be rectified by opening and closing the cockpit door. Anyway, this bug is very common and well known. Also, regarding mouse freelook, you can switch between cockpit-interaction mode and freelook mode by hitting Alt-C by default.
  19. Sounds like a joystick problem. AFAIK there is no function in the game that will inhibit the Shkval from scanning left or right.
  20. What EtheralN said. You simply will not be able to play this game until you get a better graphics card. Utilities like DCSMax won't help you.
  21. Would you care to inform of us the typical engagement ranges in Crysis? From what I can recall, aimed rifle fire ceases to be effective at under 200m in that game. I also seem to remember that the enemy helicopter in that game like to engage from under about 500m. In case you weren't aware, engagements ranges for AAA in this game is about 10x that.
  22. This part isn't true either. The system doesn't automatically lock to the center of the target, it tries to hold whichever point the sight is centered at.
  23. FYI, in real life, and in the sim, that button doesn't affect target tracking. Instead, as per the manual, it tells the computer to calculate a leading aim point: "“НПЦ” (Moving ground target mode) button. If the Shkval is tracking a moving target and you press this button prior to launching a Vikhr ATGM, the weapon control system will adjust the Vikhr launch parameters to account for a moving target and thereby increase accuracy. The targeting system will also calculate lead for gun and rockets employment." Anyway, have fun with Crysis.
  24. Since it's already implemented in Ka-50, I see no reason why it wouldn't be in A-10...
  25. There is no computer that identifies targets on the Ka-50. The Shkval doesn't have any sort of image recognition functionality whatsoever. Which is why you can lock up objects besides combat vehicles (buildings, power lines, etc).
