Yeah, that would be awesome. I am on DLSS (2) on MSFS. And oh boy, the improvements were huge! Really curious to see DLSS 3 in November (you can already test it within the beta, but I won't touch it for now). If DCS would bring DLSS to life, really a lot of the gpu performance issues would be solved! But I wouldn't hold my breath...

Thanks for the insights! I recently upgraded to the 5800X3D and was aware that it is a very potent CPU. But I was already wondering that it would be that good. But even if the numbers aren't too accurate, I'm still Gpu bound most of the time I guess. I am looking for a steady 45 FPS reprojection (which luckily still works after the patch).

Okay, back from benching. Thanks to @mbucchia i was able to do it more properly. Test scenarios were the following: F18 @ Caucasus, F16 @ Syria and AH-64 @ Marianas. Here are the results: F18 Caucasus CPU FT 2.7: 6.1, CPU FT 2.8: 6.4, Diffrenece: -4.8% GPT FT 2.7: 13.4, GPU FT 2.8: 14.8, Differece: -10.3% F16 Syria CPU FT 2.7: 7.38, CPU FT 2.8: 7.35, Diffrenece: +0.43% GPT FT 2.7: 14.62, GPU FT 2.8: 16.23, Differece: -11.64% AH-64 Marianas CPU FT 2.7: 9.82, CPU FT 2.8: 10.54, Diffrenece: -7.31% GPT FT 2.7: 19.60, GPU FT 2.8: 21.34, Differece: -8.91% It's worth to note that i left secondary shadows 'off' for a better comparison. All in all it's roughly a 10% decrease in GPU Frametimes while CPU may vary. I'll provide the tracks for you guys to test as well if you want to. F16 SYRIA BENCH.trkAH64 MARIANAS BENCH.trk @BIGNEWY None of the people i know saw increases in performance and given the number of answears to this threat, i assume the vast majority of the people using DCS won't see any. Nevertheless, it's good to know that ED is looking into it. It's not about people like me who have lost around 10% (that would be perfectly okay for the visual improvements that came with the patch). It's about the people losing 15 FPS total under VR making the game unplayable for them under VR. Couldn't attach the last track because of the 5MB limitation. So here it is: F18 CAUCASUS BENCH.trk Cheers!

Yeah, there must be something wrong which affects individual systems. I was on the lucky side 'only' losing about 10% of Gpu performance while CPU has increased about the same amount. Is it just placebo on my side or does the cockpit sharpness increase? At least that's what I am seeing actually. Besides the shimmering clouds, visually it's a great patch if the performance thing wouldn't be there.

Thank you. I am already that far, but I don't know how to read out that csv file. I am able to open it in excel, but there ain't the values I'm looking for. With fpsVR I was able to record let's say a 60 seconds track which would output avg cpu and avg gpu frametimes recorded over the 60 seconds track.

I've just benched the difference between 2.7 and 2.8. My system specs: Ryzen 5800X3D, RTX 4090, 64GB RAM @ 3400Mhz, HP Reverb G1 with 100% Resolution, no overclocking I used three different scenarios for the tests with the results in regards to in- or decrease in frametimes. All results are taken with the 'high' preset and with secondary shadows to off. Everything else was left as within the preset. 1. F18 Ready on the Ramp @ Caucasus CPU Avg in/decrease: +1.1% GPU Avg in/decrease: -7.9% 2. F16 Free Flight @ Syria CPU in/decrease: minFT +7.0%, maxFT 6.2%, avgFT +6.6% GPU in/decrease: minFT -9.8%, maxFT -8.7%, avgFT -9.3% 3. F18 on the deck @ Caucasus CPU in/decrease: minFT +9.6%, maxFT +11.8%, avgFT +10.7% GPU in/decrease: minFT -3.0%, maxFT -4.0%, avgFT -3.5% Worth to note, that this was no sophisticated test because OXR doesn't have a good measuring tool like steamVRs FPSVR. So all i could do is write down min and max frametime values and compare them. But it at least gives an impression what is currently happening here. To me, the uplift in CPU frametime was somehow unexspected but comes with a grain of salt because of the decreased GPU performance. Given that the game was more GPU than CPU limited for me (at least with the 5800X3D), this drives me faster into a 45 FPS reprojectoion (or even lower) because the GPU frametimes have always been a bit higher than the CPU ones. The question now is, why are there such tremendous differences between various rigs. I'm on the happy side, only loosing about 10% performance, but other people are actually bleeding with loosing about 10 - 15 FPS total (not %).

investigating Large performance drop in VR after updating to 2.8
exil replied to some1's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Well, the sad thing is with 2.7 the 'high' preset works flawless for the first time ever. This is the reason why I updated the card in the first place. But yes, you are right. Can't be true that you have to turn everything to low what used to work just because of an update. I mean, it is not like we are getting the follow up game of DCS World. It more or less a bigger update. Not to mention the announced VR improvements that just went south. At least, that makes me confident that there is something wrong under the hood and that ED will have a closer look. Otherwise it would be hilarious to announce VR improvements while it's actually the other way around. -
investigating Large performance drop in VR after updating to 2.8

Wow! New/different shadows for the price of 15!FPS! Haven't updated yet and I fear I won't until this is addressed. I hope ED will have a close look at it and not only stating that this is it somehow. Can't be true and I am really getting tired of spending money just to keep good visuals in DCS alive. I just (today) put in my 4090 with good hopes that this will be the last upgrade for a longer time period. Seems that wish lasted exactly one day... -
Thing is not the 15 FPS. It the frametimes that counts. Seeing this example, the 4090 might be the first card where you can run a stable 45fps reprojection with all settings cranked up to "high". You wouldn't even benefit from a 6090 because you would always be stuck in reprojection because from here on, DCS will be CPU limited. So, the benefit is really cranking up all settings to high (that said, with a varjo aero!). Is it worth 2000 bucks? For some of us yes, for some not. I didn't expect that kind of impact myself and am torn right now whether to buy or not. With a mild tendency to say yes. Because from now on and until the CPU limit isn't addressed, this card will serve you a long time unless new headsets are coming out with a lot higher resolution. I really can't see this coming in the next years. If you look at the current new releases (Pico, varjo, etc) they all have the more or less same resolution and are opting in for better features like wireless, eye tracking and so on. As technology evolves (eye tracking, Vulcan) the demand will rather decrease than increase. But that's just my two cents here.

Stell mal die X Saturation auf 50 - 70%. Habe das selbe Setup. Kurven oder Totzonen würde ich nicht unbedingt setzen.

I think he may have a certain point regarding different flight control setups. I am a DCS Simmer since the Huey went to life and also a RL pilot. I've had multiple setup of joysticks over the years of simming. Currently I have a 40cm gooseneck extension on my Warthog (in fact, a bit too long already). Since that upgrade every helicopter in DCS or MSFS or X-Plane feels more natural than ever before to me compared to my real life experience. Even the Apache feels pretty good to me (leaving out the know flaws). I, personally have no problems hovering the aircraft while other users report that it's barely possible in the current state. I experienced this also on another occasion. With this setup I did a huge amount of FM tweaking for a MSFS third party company. While with my setup the helicopter felt pretty good and close to the real deal, a lot of people with shorter sticks were complaining about the twitchiness. So, in short you can tweak certain parameters of a FM just after numbers out of the manual or with the help of recorded data during flight. Things like at weight X with powersetting Y it should climb xx ft/min at a certain speed. But you can't really tweak a feeling of a FM as long as you don't have the exact controls of the aircraft you are modeling. So it's highly dependent on your setup. Alone the length of the stick has so much influence on the feeling. So what's the conclusion for it? Well, you can go two ways here. You can of course build a home cockpit. Or you need to be aware of the fact, that there is no unique representation of a FM as long as we don't use the same setup. I also noticed another thing. A lot of companies (not specifically ED) have SMEs that have a lot of experience with their aircraft but have 0 experience in simming. Bu this is also so important. A lot of my older buddies are used to real life simulators which in fact have a <profanity>ty representation of a FM. Guess what, they would applaud to every FM that's a tiny bit better than their real world sim experience. But it still might not be a good FM for current state of the art in DCS. What happens now is, they are telling their devs that their FM is great while it's actually not. And devs believe them because they are SMEs. So we basically need devs who are able to translate a FM into code and good SMEs that are also simmers and know how to translate their feeling into the sim. So I am pretty happy we have someone like @Raptor9 on the Apache who can provide that. I really believe this is a crucial point for a good model. And the devs of ED are highly capable of building excellent helicopters. So all in all, I belive the apache will shine bright in the future.

I hope AMD is doing something for us VR heads considering better VR support. The 6900xt is a beast when it comes to raw power, but with reprojection on (whether it's steamVR or openXR) it still falls behind my 3080. I highly doubt that a 7900xt will provide enough power to keep 90 FPS steady, so my guess would be that reprojection is still required. But one thing is clear for me already. I'm either updating to AMD or keep my 3080. Not gonna happen that I will throw any money towards team green this time.

Vielleicht wartest du so lange. Insbesondere single core, waren die bisherigen Ankündigungen sehr vielversprechend.

Thank you very much! Exactly what I was looking for! I'll work around the unit level by setting up a new group for each player aircraft. But this opens up a whole new level for scripting! Just have to go on and learn how to handle function args a bit better. But the basic principle is understood.
-
Gents, is there any way I could identify a playerID or Group when the player presses one f10 menu button? I'm thinking of something like: F10 Command "check in" and once the player presses the F10 menu "check in" I could retrieve player data like his ID or his group/unit name. Any help is highly appreciated!

I already reported it as a bug and it's set to 'wip'.

This is what I am looking for. Thanks a lot! I already did the latter in my current script. I wrapped each mission in a function and called it when needed. The problem here is, the script gets terribly long because I scripted like 10 mission into it. So, I would like to avoid losing myself in one single file. That's even more simple! Sure, sometimes you are just blind for the simple stuff! Thanks a lot!
-
Gents, I kindly ask for your help here. I am looking for a command via mist or moose or dcs core script to run a script file when something happens. I have a script that will run some missions randomly when a helicopter lands into a FARP. Everything fine so far, but for simplicity reasons I rather would like to script something like: If helo lands at FARP - do script file (mission 1) I really can't find the lua command for 'do script file'. Thanks in advance!

"De-was" mal die gun oder "was" mal eine andere Waffe und dann wieder die gun. Hatte das Problem auch schon öfter.

Thank you very much! I had the very same problems. And guess on what Mainboard I am... So you just boosted the fan speed? -
