Why is the laser delayed when you drop an LGB? Why not just keep it on from release to impact?

Ho w do you turn without losing altitude in the Gazelle?
Pocket Sized replied to the_soupdragon's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Oh. Edited post. -
God, I love finding new and creative ways to bend aircraft to my will. Flick the switch marked 27 in the above image whIle parked. This makes it so you get full elevator authority at any speed and any altitude. At 1,300kmh near sea level and no payload you can pull 15 G's (don't black out!) This has no use in combat unless you want to drop all of your external stores at once. It does make for some pretty insane looking aerobatics.

What's the hardest thing to learn in the 10C?
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Well damn. Doesn't it have an orbit autopilot? Or is that something else? Also, just to be sure, can waypoints be edited/created in flight? I imagine it would simply be a matter of punching in coordinates. Are there preset waypoints for airports? Getting ahead of myself... I just need to buy the damn thing. E: Of course, as soon as I type this I get to the "waypoint creation" menu  -

Ah. For navigation I usually press F10 and head in the general direction of where I want to be... But configurable waypoints that appear on my HUD do sound nice. Also an autopilot that can do things other than hold my current path... I don't need it. I don't need it. I don't need it.... I NEEEEEED IT -

If I remember correctly that's where you manage your loadout right? Back to the manual I go  -
Just in case this is still an issue, there's your problem. Can't throttle the engine too high while stationary or it will stall.

OK, I've been flying the A-10A on the 104th and it's really been a blast. I love the way she flies, the visibility, the seemingly infinite fuel supply... etc. But it's too simple. Glancing through the 10C's manual, the systems are so mouth wateringly complex I'm wondering if I should avoid the 10C for my own mental and physical health. Joking aside, I'm definitely going to pull the trigger as soon as I get some spare cash. It seems the most difficult concept to grasp is how systems interact with each other. I understand the end result of certain things, i.e. slewing a maverick to the TGP, or telling another Hawg what your TGP is looking at. But I have no idea how you actually do these things. What was the most difficult thing for you guys to figure out? Anything that looked hard but turned out to be easy?

Don't bank too quickly or sharply, gently pull the nose around, and pull the string! That giant tail fin is gonna bleed lots of energy if you let it flap in the breeze. As I've said before, imagine you're flying a craft with no rotor and only a single thrust source. Don't count on translational lift pulling you through the turn like in the Huey. -
Reproduction steps: 1. Get in a Mig 21 that starts on the ground in a mission that has surface wind. 2. Taxi so the wind is hitting you from the side and stop. The ball will be off center even though it shouldn't be able to "feel" the wind because the craft is level and at rest. This is assuming it's a regular ball, if it is moved by inputs from the AOA probe in real life feel free to correct me. Edit: To be more specific, I'm referring to the ball under the attitude indicator. I will need to test this again to see if the ball in the vario moves.

Because of the way DCS handles mirrors they act as an animated texture. The fishbed's mirror is the same as any other but is in a shroud so the texture is seldom lit. Fly so the Sun is to your right and bank left. You should see the mirror catch the sunlight and get much brighter.

In real life? Or the sim? I see there's a "Fuel Dump" in the A-10A's control setup, is that there by mistake?
-
I see that R controls the fuel dump, which would be very useful when a target is close to home plate and flying in with 95% fuel would be detrimental to handling. (defueling takes forever on the ground) However, I can't understand exactly how it works. While on the ground, it's disabled for obvious reasons. While in the air, your engines are burning fuel so it's pretty hard to tell if it's on or off. Is it a toggle? Are there any specific conditions that have to be met? Does it work at all?
-
Mar has it right. While slewing ground track is disabled. If you're in stable flight (autopilot) slewing is no harder than in the 25T. If you're turning, or changing attitude in any way, it's much easier to aim using the stick and rudder.

Basically what I'm thinking is this: You have a stick with 4 springs connected to it. The springs are connected to the joystick base on rails that allow the ends to move in and out. You set up some sort of servo system to tighten the springs as airspeed increases. Pros: Simple to build (in theory). Adaptable to nearly any joystick. Simple to interface with the Sim (servo/motor position varies directly with airspeed). Provides realistic stick forces, which is usually all you're going to feel in an actual airplane aside from trim. Cons: Probably gonna be big (not an issue if it's a center mounted joystick) No idea what you'd drive the springs with. R/C servos could work but are noisy. Can't simulate trim properly. Idk, I'm just brainstorming. Could this be improved? Any similar ideas that would work better?

Refuel vs repair times make no sense
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Again, I'm not saying the repair time should be increased. I quite like how it is now. I think the times should be ordered by how "involved" they are. So rearming would take the least time (let's ignore the problem of replacing gun ammo) then refueling, then repair. So refueling could be reduced to 2-3 minutes to fill the tanks maybe? Idk, I'm gonna add this to the OP. -
AFAIK overtorque is more punishing to the power turbine and gearbox than it is to the rotors/shaft. Very high G-loads or mast bumping would get rid of your rotor in no time at all, but this doesn't appear to be implemented yet.

Refuel vs repair times make no sense

I know. That's why I said "total preparation time." As in, time that isn't spent pumping fuel. -

How long did the actual refueling take though? I imagine the total preparation time would be much less in an active war. -
Refuel vs repair times make no sense

Same. Whenever I fly the SU-25T on Virtual Aerobatics I'll let my nav equipment align while I take half the fuel out. -

Oh. Never thought of it like that... -
Refuel vs repair times make no sense
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Well yeah, I'd rather not sit around for 5 minutes while fuel loads after waiting 3 minutes for my plane to be completely refurbished. Not saying the repair time needs to be increased, I'm saying the fueling time could take a similar route and be decreased in the intrests of gameplay. -
Refuel vs repair times make no sense
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in DCS Core Wish List
My point is that the repair time is totally fudged for gameplay reasons, so why isn't the fueling time? Or at the very least allow weapons to be loaded while fueling... -
So, yeah. It takes 3 minutes to rebuild engines, replace swiss cheese'd wings, fix landing gear or anything else you could possibly think of... But it takes upwards of 5 minutes to refuel. (Only exception I've seen to this is the Huey, I could be wrong tho) What the H E C K Edit: I'm not saying the repair time should be increased. I quite like how it is now.
