Imperial airspeed indicator accuracy
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in DCS: L-39 Albatros
From today's changelog. I wonder if this means the airspeed indicator will be accurate? Can't wait to test it when I get home. -
I noticed there's a very large Mach indicator in the Su-25A. Very useful for figuring out how much you can push her before she starts biting. Does the 25T have a Mach or TAS indication anywhere in the cockpit? Seems like such a high subsonic aircraft should have one somewhere.

I need to do a bit more searching but the dash 1 and some pilot accounts imply the takeoff trim DOES set the stabilators above the center position. Most convincingly, the manual states a clean F-15 should raise it's nose at 160-180 knots without pilot input if I remember correctly.
-
Yep. Dropped one on a field of active AAA. Lots of smoke, lag, and a big crater but zero kills.
-
I remember BST mentioning they aren't going to implement wing snap because there haven't been any cases of sabres snapping wings. Think it might have been in the manual?

Why is there a picture of an A-10 in the F-16 thread?

So, what all needs to be done to get these damn things off the rail? Does the radar need to be locked on an air target? Surely not. (sorta hoping to use these for some limited A/G) Edit: I'm talking about the sim, not real life btw.

It would be amazing if there was an option for the ground crew to inspect your plane for damage. Nothing fancy, maybe just a text dialog in the top right with "slight/heavy damage to left/right wing/fuselage" Maybe the inspection could take some time to do. If you do the inspection and they find very light damage the repair could go faster maybe?

Is there a particular schedule for the day/night cycle? It seems like 95% of the time I get on it's pitch black.
-
I tried to connect to the TS but it requires a passoword. Didn't see one in the briefing. Other than that, I just finished my first WWII combat sortie ever. Went great until I was on the tail of a 109 that had just gotten shot by AAA. He jumped to spectator  Also, how long do restarts usually take? It's been down for at least 5 minutes now. Edit: Nvm the server is back up

What to do after taking serious damage.
Pocket Sized replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
If you take damage that kills your MFD(s) or TGP go ahead and jettison weapons that require said systems. If your HUD is dead and/or you lose an engine completely, RTB. If you lose an engine and it shuts down immediately there's no point in trying to restart it. Sadly the DCS damage model dictates this. Start your APU. It'll give you hydraulic and electrical power. If you lose both, glide away from the target area and try to land on a road. Or if you're the more adventurous type, use your plane as a 30,000 lb Maverick. Here's one that I always forget. CHECK YOUR MAIN WHEELS BEFORE EXTENDING THEM! They're in a vulnerable position and if you land with a shredded wheel you're going in the grass. Move your view until you can see the wheels (possible with trackir) and if one is missing or damaged just leave the gear up. As for practicing, I'd say to go on a free flight server or single player and just experiment. Shut down random systems and see how the aircraft reacts. Try the manual reversion flight controls (carefully, lol). Try doing dead stick landings, belly landings, landings without your HUD, etc. Learn how to navigate with TACAN. It's super simple and saved me last night on the 104th because my INS got shot out. If you want some real practice, set up a mission with a few tanks or AK infantry. Fly over them and let them score a few hits. Fly away, take stock of what's working and then go again. Do this and just hope they don't aim for the engines :D -
I'm hyped.... I think they should have added "later in 2016" BEFORE they mentioned all the new airfields.

F-14 Tomcat Tales: In the Break at NAS Key West
Pocket Sized replied to capthaltli's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Four words: Very high pucker factor. -
(There's an A-10A dash 1 that's free to view but can't be downloaded. Would posting a link to it be frowned upon?) It mentions that the veeeery edge of the chopped tone is absolute max performance. So if you're turning hard and hear it flickering between the two that's a good indication you're squeezing the wing for all it's got. It also means that holding the chopped tone doesn't necessarily mean you're stalling. HOWEVER we can't confirm if what we have is accurate unless somebody finds a video of an A-10 wildly rocking it's wings due to a stall.

For the time being I'd just set the altimeter to airport elevation. This can be found with F2 or by going to the F10 map and clicking your aircraft.
-
Ah heck. I searched the wishlist forum for TF and got nothing. Didn't think to look anywhere else.
-
Note: I understand ED is EXTREMELY busy right now and this would be very low priority. The TF-51 is one of my favorite aircraft in DCS simply because of how fun it is to teach new players the ropes of flying it. I think a ~$10 expansion would be reasonable. (This would align with CA and a few others IIRC) If you have the expansion you can let people into your cockpit or get into the back seat of another's. This way, somebody who is brand new could be given a "tour" of the sim before they spend any money but the devs still get a bit of cash from the virtual instructors that buy the expansion. It would also be interesting flying from the back while the student's head covers most of the instruments...

Try taking off with no gun ammo and you'll see you need a huge amount of nose down trim. It's also much harder to keep the solid tone while turning. A-10C only has pitch and yaw SAS. This is mainly a roll stability issue. [break] I feel like washout (wingtips pointed down slightly) would have a pretty massive effect here. Does the real thing have it in the wings or are the ailerons canted up a bit to substitute for washout?

Sort of related: Anyone know how the radar is integrated with the weapons in general? Let's say you find a cluster of parked tanks on the scope. Is that information sent to any of the weapons systems or does it simply act as a map?
-
Try scraping your wing on the taxiway, you'll find it will be peppered with bullet holes.
-
What options are there for targeting the glide bombs? In other words, do we have to type coordinates into the INS or are there alternate methods? (i.e. using the HUD to designate a target like in the A-10/Mirage)

How a water bottle could've killed me - near misses in aviation
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in Chit-Chat
There's a very popular Youtube video in which somebody crashes on their first solo because the throttle crept backwards after takeoff without them noticing. (The guy was fine, not sure about the plane) -
One time I was providing some low level CAP for a few hogs. I had my radar in vertical scan and got a lock on something, the square was empty. According to the range bar I was within sidewinder and maybe even gun range. I was very confused, even more so when the target dove straight into the ground and exploded! I later realized I accidentally locked up a friendly maverick :megalol:

Is it reasonable for the F-14 to be finished in 2016?
