Most certainly. For long range shots the enemy will be too far away to see it though.

Engine Flameout and stall. This is extreme!
Pocket Sized replied to pepin1234's topic in Flight Dynamics
The MiG-21 is very picky. It has lots of power but doesn't like it when you force all that power into level flight. Never exceed 1250 km/h indicated. I've found this applies to most if not all flight regimes. Never exceed Mach 2.1. At about 2.15 (which you will reach VERY quickly) the engine stalls. -
Autorotation practice - Governor override?
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Eh, just makes starting the engines faster once I'm on the ground. As long as the standby gen isn't on it has no effect. -
Autorotation practice - Governor override?
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Yeah, I've started going into autos with the APU running and cutting them off completely. Results have been.... mixed. Let's just say I need a bit more practice in this bird. -
I've found that most of the time when I occupy a SAM I get this message even if I have missiles left. It makes them useless. I saw an SA-15 that had 4 missiles left but said it was reloading. I tried driving it next to a Ural that hadn't reloaded any vehicles and it said ammunition unavailable. I tried it on a working Tor to no avail. Upon giving the Tor to AI and getting back in I got the bugged reloading message. Pretty frustrating!

I'm having issues contacting the ground crew with easy comms off. I assumed a cold and dark aircraft could communicate with them as long as their cockpit is open, no? I'll take a look at the manual and see if it says anything.

Autorotation practice - Governor override?
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Sort of related question, I've noticed sometimes the engines will diverge in performance after they've been abused for long periods of time. Is this actually engine damage or something else? (I.e. something temporary like overtemp) -
I've found that moving the engine condition levers or the collective twist grip will force the engines to idle... until the collective is raised. This poses a problem when practicing autos, as the engines end up helping you during the critical few seconds before touchdown. The huey does the same thing but it can be overriden with the emergency governor switch. I've done quite a bit of poking but my engines simply won't stay at idle. Even tried flipping the "RPM control" breaker which didn't appear to do anything at all (probably because I'm a knobhead)

CDU Question: What's the easiest way to get an airfield on my HUD other than divert mode? Sometimes the destination is too far away to appear on the divert list, unless there's a way to flip to the next page?

Terrible pun incoming. What do you call an F-15 flying around randomly with no ordnance? Aimless

How a water bottle could've killed me - near misses in aviation
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in Chit-Chat
I had a similar emperience in the Bf-109 in DCS when my pitot tube iced over. I was doing an altitude run and kept pulling the nose up thinking "how am I still accelerating?" -
How a water bottle could've killed me - near misses in aviation
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in Chit-Chat
Actually, thinking back on it I have absolutely no idea why I didn't notice it during the control check. We do one before every flight just prior to connecting the rope. I guess it was in a position where it didn't get in the way until after the control check or something. Aw come on, a little aft CG never hurt anyone. That is, until they got into a stall :joystick: -
I'm a student pilot in glider training. Recently I had an experience that only lasted a couple of seconds but left a lasting impression on me as a pilot. I was going up for the second time that day, it was very hot so I'd brought a water bottle with me. While I was getting into the cockpit I placed the bottle in the leather boot that surrounds the base of the stick. The process of strapping in and hooking up to the towplane went very smoothly. The takeoff roll started. The wing runner released the wing and the plane began falling to the left. Because we were so early in the takeoff roll (less than 30 kts) I applied full right aileron. I heard a crinkle and realized I'd left my water bottle in the boot, which was preventing me from moving the stick freely. I reached down to grab it with my left hand (while we were still on the ground!) but stopped. In my mind something said "Just fly the airplane". Of course, it was right. I continued the tow, prepared to release should my control be degraded any further. After the tow plane leveled out I had enough time to take a deep breath and put the bottle between my left side and the cockpit wall. I don't know about you guys, but I can think of about a dozen ways the situation could have gotten very bad very quickly. Can't help but wonder if anyone here has had any similar experiences? PS: Sorry about the clickbait

Make sure helmet sound is off in the sound options.

Yep. EOS can't tell the difference between friend or foe. Press I to turn on the radar for a second after you've locked them, it will tell you if they're enemy or not.

Regardless of if this post is true, it's gonna make a lot of excitement.

I'd say the next patch is due within the Next 8-10 Hours. (And somebody beat me to it)

I stand corrected. Unrelated note: Isn't there supposed to be 1 more stream involving weapons?
-
Yes. But next Friday is also in that window. And the one after that. And the one after that...
-
STOP! Before this goes any further, no. DCS updates are only pushed on Fridays.* I wouldn't get my hopes up on the F-5 being released this Friday as they very recently said the infamous "two weeks". Edit: Also yes, DCS has to update in order for a new module to be released. *DCS doesn't always update on Fridays. Oops.

Oh, that sounds wonderful! What are the consequences of over stressing/over speeding the Viggen?
-
Yeah, with the PFM you'll actually be able to see how you messed up the landing. Now, you just explode. Or get your rear end shredded if you pass too close on a go around.

Please forgive the 6 month thread ressurection but... Has there been any news reguarding the 33 flight model since January? I really hate the feedback loop in this situation. Nobody flies the 33 because of the simple flight model. The professional flight model is not high priority because so few people are eagerly awaiting it (like me). And thus 99% of the community completely forgets about it.

Necropost to the rescue, because two weeks later the Hawk license is still completely broken. Is there any way to get support on this without the order number? As far as I know only the original owner has it, and the module was given to me. Edit: I filed a different type of ticket that doesn't require an order number, but I won't be surprised if it gets rejected or something because the issue is waaay different than anything they have options for.

Turn off helmet sound and crank up your headphones. Especially in the FC3 aircraft, you'll notice way better sound from the environment.
