There is new stuff going on in Blighty. I have seen a couple of new villages and a small town ( maybe Portsmouth) last time I flew over. The generic lonely farmhouses are also present. However in the Solent area, both Southampton and Cowes are conspicuous by their absence. It is heartening to see that there is still considerable work quietly going on in updating the map.

I only discovered that particular warhorse mod last weekend, just as I was about to shut everything down for beer time. It's downloaded and placed in the saved games, dcs open alpha folder, but I have yet to enable it in game as for the sake of my marriage, I avoid DCS time during the week. Stuck with web browsing on kindle so my attention can be grabbed at will. Looking forward to the extra character of a well used hog.

The Hog is still my go to plane, love it. A true Gentlemans conveyance. The cockpit and other textures could do with a bit of a freshen up though. Although astounding still and certainly nothing to complain about, when compared to my Belsimtek offerings of F5 and the F86, the Hog is starting to show its age - esp in VR.

I think the biggest problem, and I'm only talking VR here as I don't do flat screens anymore, is how the aircraft appears and disappears from view. You can be following him up into the vertical and he is there and easily visible against the sky one second, then just vanishes into thin air in the next, if you pardon the pun.

I use mouse cursor to click switches and turn dials. The hands do not work and so far as I can see, unless someone comes out with gloves that can be worn and tracked accurately within the VR cockpit, they will continue to be redundant. Picking up, orienting and putting down a controller just to click a switch must be the ultimate immersion killer.

Managed to fence sit for a whole 12 hours, had a sleep and the credit card was calling when I woke up..... Can't wait.

Its above the red downlock overide button and to the right of the antiskid switch on the left side of the front panel near the gear handle. Horizontal bar with three bumps on it. Edit, Tundra pipped me at the post.

Back in the day, when I too was a PPL, I had great difficulty spotting other private aircraft at more than two miles range, esp against clouds or terrain. Remember Radar Advisory Service once informing of converging traffic from the right, 500ft below. Despite two pairs of eyes looking, we never saw him. All one has to think is how a 747 or other widebody looks from the ground when flying at 36,000ft or 6 miles. How many would notice it if not for the contrail? What if was against a cloud and not blue sky? I'm sceptical of claims of seeing the aircraft itself at 30 miles or more. The contrail maybe with a glint of sunlight at the front, but not the aircraft itself. Then again I don't have the eyes of an Eagle. Just normal issue in those days, and over twenty years later, needing panes of glass to get a decent view.

Declassified: Warthog Pilots - Grunts in the Sky
Tinkickef replied to StrongHarm's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Its actually been out on youtube for 3 or 4 years. -
He is not talking about axis commands like the stick movement, he is talking about sensitivity of his radar slew and trim hat switches. The F5 is well known to be a trim hound. I don't use it much, but when I do, that trim switch is in constant motion in response to every little alteration of the flight parameters. First thing I would check is that the controls are not bound in duplicate with other controllers.

I think we should pay for the new CAUCASUS????
Tinkickef replied to Psicodreamics's topic in DCS: Caucasus
This. MM2 is correct. Caucusus is the showroom floor for DCS. It is where they get prospective customers coming in, climbing in and out of cockpits, taking stuff out on test drives ect and eventually making a decision on buying a new module or not. If not, fine, at least the customer made the decision based on facts and with little risk or outlay. Many people who downloaded the free stuff will not have gone on to buy, but then again I doubt they use the free stuff very much in any case. I would guess all of us that used it a lot started paying for modules within a couple of months. Would the OP bother visiting a car manufacturers showroom if all its dealers charged a £50 admission fee. All that has happened here is that DCS have ripped the guts out of their old showroom and put in a shiny new tiled floor, some fancy lighting and done a little redecorating to bring it into line with the current expectations of prospective buyers. RSI once offered me free look into Space Citizen but after downloading it for hours, and starting it to take a look, I was called away after a few minutes. When I next got the chance to look in, the offer was revoked and I was bombarded with emails to buy payware. I never went back. As for DCS, I tried it for a few weeks at my leisure, then went on to buy quite a few paid for modules including both terrains and most likely hormuz too when it comes out. Note, being a CLoDder at the time I was already an avid combat flight simmer and knew about DCS, but I was hugely sceptical because of the need to buy it in separate, paid for modules, not in one hit. It seemed, and is a hugely expensive way of flight simming compared to traditional sims with multiple aircraft. Without Caucus and the free SU25, I would not be here now as I would not have seen and experienced where the value lies in DCS. Which was the most successful strategy in my case...RSI or DCS? Does the OP wish to pay for access to this forum too? -
You have broken the planet gear carrier in the transmission and the unit Engineering Officer will be along in an hour or so to say the cost will be taken out of your salary. I hope you are in the service for the full 20 years.

There appears to be quite a few changes made in 2.2 that ED have not actually told about. Found one today while buzzing around Normandy in the Huey, namely the coastline. Looks absolutely fantastic in VR, crystal clear water with a sandy / rocky and weed strew seabed, leading to the shallows, parts of which are rocky and drop away steeply underwater, then the shoreline itself, partly rocky and gravelly, and partly sandy all leading to sand / shingle beaches. The new water effect is fantastic too. I noticed the rocky parts last update, but the sand is new to this update. Performance is markedly improved as well. Its easy to complain about the negative stuff like the F10 crash, but I feel that I had better balance that with some positive stuff. 2.2 is a breath of fresh air, stunning changes and I think it probably the most realistic scenery bar none. Give the people involved a pat on the back.....

Speedbrakes only until less than 80kts, then start dabbing at the brakes, unless it is a very short runway.

All this has got my mind ticking away now and sleep and I appear to be mutually exclusive tonight. Hate it when the brain will not shut down. Anyway, re your post. I think everyone on this thread wants ED to do well, none of us want to see their hard work getting sold down the market at £3 for a dodgy DVD containing a pirated Hornet ect. Working in a global market also means that before they implement some change that involves a "valuable consideration" they must also seek legal advice from each part of the world they operate in (not saying they haven't already, but it is often overlooked). Yes it is a lively discussion and a valuable chance to give feedback on the new change, but that is all, an exchange of views and all the posts I have seen have contributed and grown the thread constructively. Lively discussions tend to tease out more info as many posters, instead of posting and running, find themselves having to come back and explain their reasoning in greater detail. I would think that far from being discouraged, ED will find this thread raises some interesting points for them to consider.
-
I suggest you look up the Consumer Rights Act 2015 section 34. Unclear wording does not cut it. Period. I say again EDs legal department should be looking into it. It is not for either of us to make a judgement. It is easy to pontificate when one bears no responsibility.
-
Excellent! He will be able to state for the record, and advise ED that they are most definitely not in breach of EU law or breach of contract in the EU then. Just what this thread needs, the definitive statement. I can rest easy now and get some sleep. :) knowing that EDs back is covered.
-
In the US. EU consumer law is very different and much further reaching. While not a lawyer, I did have to study UK (common law) for two years as part of my degree, as opposed to US ( very much based around roman law in a lot of aspects, not that I know anything about US law).
-
That is a technical consideration outside the scope of ED, not a contractual one.
-
suggest you read post 308.

Sorry you are quite wrong. Activation is entirely separate from gameplay and if put to the test in court, I would offer the opinion that "The man on the Clapham Omnibus" - UK legal term for the average man in the street would have expectations to play the game which is contained on the hard drive of his PC whether it is on the internet or not, unless clearly expressed to the contrary in a manner that can be taken into account before the contract is made. "Activation requires internet access" is not sufficiently clear in my view. Windows says activation via internet or phone is required, it does not stop working when offline and that would be the view of the court.
-
Putting it on the store page now is too late. It's bolting the stable door after the horse was seen disappearing into the sunset. The term must be agreed to before the pay now button is pressed. The A10 module is over 7 years old...... They can do it with all the new modules they want, but the existing ones that have been bought already are already subject to contract between the user and ED. Yes we are playing with words. Everything I say is meant to be constructive. I don't use my DCS PC, during the week for the sake of my marriage, stuck to making typos on a Kindle, and Sith has already said even though my PC is switched off for this time it is not a problem, it will log in normally at the weekend, so I personally am not worried by the technicalities. I would be pissed about the lack of consultation before altering my contracts however, but that's what I view this thread to be about. Consultation and negotiation.
-
Indeed, and if a very large group of pissed off customers, opened a class action to sue ED for damages just because each, as we all have, several hundred pounds worth of potentially unuseable content on their PCs, it could put ED out of business. Lets not forget, this is not grand theft auto 2 we are talking about here, it is a very large monetary investment for modt people with several modules and all the terrain. Suppose they had to reimburse many thousands of customers at once? It HAS to be checked with legal before implementation and customers offered reimbursement. Most likely no one would take reimbursment, but at least ED has offered.
-
Because that was a contract term and a technical requirement at the point the contract was made. This is not. It is a change to a contract that the consumer has not been consulted about. As such it is an unfair contract term ( off the top of my head 93/13 eec) and may well be a breach of EU law. I have no axe to grind either way. Feedback was asked for and I played devils advocate. I just want ED to get it right and fair for everyone.

Pretty sure this new setup falls foul of the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 (digital content and services), and as a result, EU wide consumer regulation. As a constructive comment, I would advise ED to check the European legalities before committing to this new setup as you have applied this new rule retrospectively. Since you are saying you will withdraw service from your consumers if they do not go choose to log in online, when in fact, at the time of purchase; this was not the case, you will almost certainly be in breach of contract. Long time since I studied law in any detail, but I urge legal to check it out re EU consumer regulations.
