I'm sure ED will be burning the midnight oil to fix it. With such a big upgrade, it is understandable to have bugs, however in light of the 2.5 promo videos, it is disappointing to have such huge differences in quality carried over to other terrains. Normandy and Ugra media were coming along brilliantly with much well deserved praise. In the meantime I am attempting to download 2.2 again, wish I had not followed the prompt to delete it. I feel somewhat sorry for the guys at ED, it must have been a hell of a lot of work that on the face of it looked great, but when let out into the open was found to be a bit of a disappointment to many. They will fix it. We just need to be patient...and go back to 2.2 if possible. I need to torrent 9GB in total so far for 2.2 engine, terrains, aircraft ect. I guess the only people not happy are those of us with NTTR and Normandy that are used to the higher quality. Without a doubt, if I only had Caucasus, I would have been over the moon.

Updater transferred 30GB across from 2.5 and I'm torrenting another 3GB so it will take awhile on my connection. I have to find out if it needs the further updates to bring it from 2.1 to 2.2. Hope it hasn't transferred across the degraded sea and lighting effects from 2.5. I will also have lots of setting up to do again...control binds ect... I will report back when it is up and running and let you know if the lighting ect has got corrupted. So moral of the tale, if you upgrade to 2.5, don't delete your 2.2 folder. I will keep 2.5 for daytime Caucasus missions and return full time when ED has had the chance to sort the problems.

Clouds in the distance appear and disappear when you turn your head. Used to the rotating clouds, but never had them switch on and off like a beacon....

Only problem with DS off at night on Caucusus, the sea which used to be dark and left a very clear and sharp coastline is now pink......and those horrible light green trees its like looking at a photographic negative. I too am pushing for lighting fixes since I do most of my stuff at before dawn or dusk going into nightime. Judging from many posts on here and Hoggit, these low in the sky Sun times seem to be the most popular, at least in SP. Night time lighting is the number one fix in my book. 2.2 used to suffer from dim A10C cockpit floodlights and taxi lights, but the general terrain was unnaffected, albeit moonlight was very muted. Now you cannot hardly even see the stars on a clear night. Some change in 2.5 has broken everything, I think they need to roll back the lighting on NTTR and Normandy until they come up with an across the board fix. Shame because it seemed to have so much promise. Quite a few devs have had 2.5 for months in testing. Why wasn't this picked up....unless it was and it's not an easy fix. Thinking of downloading 2.1 again, but for me thats a 24 hr download.....
-
He said his setting is high. As is mine. 2.5 is a huge step backwards in visual quality over 2.2. Certainly not what Wags videos promised..... Paid for DLC has suffered for Caucusus. Not something I would gave expected... I'm certainly considering downloading 2.1 again.

The Angels are weeping because the beautifully clear water at the Normandy coastline where you could see the bottom quite a few feet down is now broken. The squids have attacked and turned it to ink. Be patient, ED will fix it. hopefully.

Deffered Shading reduced night visibility to almost zero
Tinkickef replied to Delareon's topic in View and Spotting Bugs
Agreed. In my view deferred shading behaviour in low light conditions is THE MOST IMPORTANT fix right now. Even finding a period of full moon wont fix it. The stars are all but invisible across all thee maps also. Deferred shading in 2.2 nighttime Normandy and NTTR were a little broken re cockpit floods ect, but doable and the night skies were very pretty, but 2.5 has broken the lot it appears. Starting to wish I had not upgraded... Tried DS off for first time since I got it via Normandy, but cannot get along with terrain that looks like a photographic negative. -
I run a 980ti and have few problems. Sure ASW kicks in now and again, and it gets stuttery turning onto the end of the runway, otherwise usually butter smooth. Be interesting how much other stuff peeps have on their gaming PC. I have very little in the way of programs on mine other than the OS, oculus and a few games launched from within oculus. Oh and DCS. All the MS office ect stuff is on another, older PC. Wonder if people with poor performance are having some type of conflict issue if they use their gaming PC as a one stop shop?

Yes it sets to Rift setting. I personally have that setting off. Cannot see any reason for it as Rift is better without it. My IPD setting in Rift is 64mm, so the poster with 90mm must look like Stuey from family guy, or more likely, misunderstood what the IPD setting is for.

DCS does not record game footage, it records controller positions against time. The upshot is that when replaying a track, due to minute differences in calculating time, the missile that you narrowly avoided previously will hit in the replay, the bullets that set the enrmy aircraft alight may miss, or your plane, if a split second from impacting the ground previously will auger into the mountainside. These inaccuracies are cumulative, the longer the track, the greater the errors.

Georgian Hammer 2.5 - Wingman not engaging
Tinkickef replied to MadMonty's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
My wingman gets terribly confused. I tell him to engage air defences. He says negative. I tell him to engage targets of opportunity and he says two roger, two engaging, two RTB and stays on my wing..... broken. -
Happens at Batumi at night too. Canopy open, dark night. Look left and right at ground, everything pin sharp. Look at panel - instant fog.

My 980TI runs at 99% to 100% according to asus GPU Tweak. Hottest temp it ever recorded was 77 degrees C and typically 73 degrees, so unless you are running much hotter than this I doubt you will damage your card.

Thanks all. Deleted metashade folder and it made a small difference, a deep blue to the sides, but black directly below; however not a cure. I note some saying the sea is without detail, I have swell and waves, just the colour is well off. Normandy sea is unaffected so far as I can tell. Black Sea indeed. wonder if someone at ED is having a laugh? 2.5 is taking some messing with to get right, but I am slowly getting there. Don't be disheartened boys, I think it is still well worth it. Caucasus map is pretty good, not up to standards of Normandy and NTTR perhaps, but a very big improvement.
-
Thanks for that. Water is already on high and I still have black sea. No problems before 2.2 merge with 2.5.
-
In Caucasus. The sea really is black like ink unless seen from a very shallow angle when it takes on a navy blue colour. Nothing like the beautiful, clear blue Normandy sea and coastline, which I have yet to try in 2.5. Hope to God that's unaffected.

Happens across all 3 maps since the 2.5 merge, no issues with 2.2. I happen to do most of my ramp starts at daybreak and have noticed that after the 2.5 update that a significant number of random pixels are lighting up when it is dark. The effect makes everything look like your helmet visor is misted up, everything looks muddy and foggy. At daybreak with sky lightening to the right, and dark to the left, look left and get foggy cockpit / terrain. Look right and no fogging, everything is normal. This has only become apparent since the 2.5 merge. As mentioned, 2.2 did not have the issue. I have gamma set around 1.8. Edit. Having been looking on AV sites, for clarity; the effect I am talking about in 2.5 appears to be more familiarly known as Mura, Flashlighting or Clouding and appears to be a 2.5 issue.

Update copckpit for better VR experience?
Tinkickef replied to Sandman1330's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I use the redundant front lever on the warthog joystick to move the camera rearwards, saves all the F5ing. Best position in VR is moving back till the front edge of the TACAN panel aligns with where your hip would be.. -

Wow look at the UHF repeater head on the panel in this pic... -
It would be great if mission editor had the tools to build airfields ect eg blocks and radii of concrete for building runways and taxiways, lighting and also stuff for building towns was th streets ect. Modders could make towns, villages and more detailed airfields in the correct places and put the files up for incorporation into the maps. The maps would populate far quicker than ED doing it all themselves, all they would have to do was verify the quality. Or the modder could just do it for his own use. After NTTR and the astoundingly detailed airbases therin, both Caucasus and Normandy are screaming out for airbase mods, not all of us want Normandy to be stuck in 1944. So someone mods some bases for Normandy 1985 for instance, we could have different Normandies for diffferent time periods. Even the English coast could get some love, Southampton, Brighton ect, even Cowes ect on the IoW. Ive done a few villages, but they look rubbish without proper streets.
-
Perhaps this should be on Normandy, not NTTR, however in answer to Normandy question. I think a lot of quiet improvements are getting implemented in Normandy every 2.2 patch, without fanfare. I often come across things when flying outside the usual places and think hello, that's new. It is very obvious that the Normandy project is still very much on the front burner at Ugra.

Update copckpit for better VR experience?
Tinkickef replied to Sandman1330's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
It certainly could do with a refresh as I agree, the F5 and the F86 make it look a little dated. However it is a very old module these days, even if in my view it is still the best. I think.the Hog is blessed with quite a spacious cockpit IRL though, it is a pretty large aircraft. I have thought of the pilots body in the past and always have them enabled in my other aircraft. I think the problem with the hog is the fact that the side consoles are so complex and will be blocked from view / operation by arms. On the P51, you cannot see the port fuel gauge because of a leg. Multiply that by 30 and you got the Hog with pilot. -
Being laid up in bed by man flu and bored witless, I manually deleted my browser history one by one for the last several days. Its working again now. Whether ED fixed it, or deleting the files did it, I know not. Now all I need is a little broth to sip and a cool hand on my forehead. Unfortunately my little bell is no longer acted upon by the missus. She'll be sorry when I'm gone. Sigh.

My Kindle is having a dickyfit trying to view the forums. Says the site is unsafe and hackers may be trying to get my info! It says there may be a problem with the site's certificate and does not like it at all. I know its likely a problem with my kindle browser and not DCS, but I thought it worth reporting. This is the address popping up on the browser bar when trying to view the forum. Note the forum is the only thing affected, not the rest of the site. Accessing the forum through my bookmark, or via the main website has the same result. https://forums.eagle.ru/?langid=1
