  1. A10C. Latest update has broken the taxi light and landing lights at night. taxi light looks to be relatively unnaffected, but the landing light is a sharp cone with sharp edges. It looks as if all local lighting from the cockpit is affected. Nearby aircraft strobes no longer light up the cockpit to the same extent ect. Be nice if they put it back exactly as it was, it was pretty much perfect. All that needed tweaking were the Cockpit floods on the Hog for night time mission start up, but as a workaround, the near aircraft strobes allowed you to see the switches. Overall effect of the lighting changes are to make the moonlit nights look much much less realistic than before as well as the broken taxiway lines at night, as mentioned by someone as seen in the daylight. My perception of the lighting changes are something to do with shadows and light sources has been tweaked and not for the better. Probably a victim of the law of unintended consequences due to improvements elsewhere. Edit: Appears to be an artifact of VR. The "cone" moves and alters angle when the head is turned or tilted.
  2. Hog Over Iran Mission to show off how breathtakingly beautiful the PG map is at night and takes in some stunning scenery. Designed for immersion with Rift mainly, with a populated home base; it is a simple mission for your 2 ship, 4 element flight to fight your way through the defences on route and destroy some targets at Lor Airbase. Newbie friendly, no CDU or FAC work. Just basic waypoint navigation and TGP. Warning, it IS a full fuel load mission and fuel critical, so you will need a couple of hours to complete it, but I think it is worth it. Briefing included. EDIT: Hog over Iran 2 is the same mission that is slowly evolving into something a bit more complicated. The Base is much more densely populated and a few bells and whistles have been added. Hope you taxi with your canopy open... Hog Over Iran 2 .miz
  3. Is very intermittent. It freezes regularly and can show the wingman 5 miles astern and stationary when he is in fact about a mile to starboard. It also stops showing any friendly assets very regularlyfor maybe 5 minutes at a time, then comes back on. I tell myself it's enemy jamming.....
  4. In mission editor. It can be a right pain finding full moon and required position in sky on night missions. Due to Mura in my headset, full moon almost overhead is pretty essential for a non foggy experience, limiting time of takeoff. It would be nice to be able to choose moon position and phase in the editor. It really would be a great thing to have as PG is astoundingly pretty in moonlight at around 18,000ft. It would be nice to arrange missions where you takeoff in the dark and return at sunrise.
  5. Set up a hog night mission with cloud density 3 and full moon. Abu Musa Island airport. 1.8 gamma. First thing. Nav lights now light up the ground and immediate surrounding areas. Very beautiful. When in flash mode, they very faintly light up the panel Strobes, my word they are bright... Moonlight casts shadows in the cockpit, I cannot describe how much this adds to the realism. Sea looks very very realistic in the moonlight. Sea in daylight now has the same clarity as Normandy did in 2.1, not the blue ink that 2.5 turned it into. You can see the bottom several feet down. Overall, the level of detail is very impressive. Taxiway and runway lights are very impressive, the Hog landing light brightness issue is fixed, however cockpit flood light issue is still present. If you are one of those who are holding out on principle, or because MP is not big on there yet, you are doing yourself a great disservice. However, it is a power hungry beast in VR. I had to overclock up my 980TI by around 15% to get smooth frames. Temp only went up by 1degree though, so everything is good. Just waiting for ampere to come out.
  6. Joining The Dots. Not sure who would deal with this... Wags or Nick, but a little idea. New Caucasus is out, PG map is out. Not all of us are wannabe fighter jocks and looking for a quick kill before ones coffee goes cold. Are there any plans to join PG to Caucasus with a high res flight corridor? Does not have to be a full terrain, just maybe a 40km wide low res corridor that looks good at 15000ft and maybe a 10km wide inner corridor with detail for low level flight and some air bases to land and refuel on. Also, having ejected on the apron at Creech, purely to walk around the aircraft and base, I was gobsmacked at the detail, even a considerable way from the flightline, as I waited to cross roads after traffic passed by. Dodged various types of service hardware, and negotiated my way past various linked fenced enclosures. It struck me that perfect immersion would build on this aspect. Imagine a human squad, or a single player set up with wingman, getting a brief ( and a chance at socialising) in a ready room, getting allocated aircraft numbers and then taking a leisurely 5 minute stroll to the apron with his squad mates, or even jumping into the back of a bread van to ride to the flight line, locate the allocated aircraft and climb aboard. The detail is already there, the animations are not. Similarly, egressing the aircraft without ejecting in a similar fashion would be nice. Any plans on this?
  7. Excellent sentiments. I think most of us agree that the sim is perhaps so complex, it is impossible for anyone to really understand its intricacies any more and that is why apparently simple fixes usually break something else. Must be like trying to tape up a cardboard box full of tigers. I think most also agree that the devs are among the very best in the business at what they do and that EDs goals are lofty indeed. However, in the depths of disappointment, this knowledge can fall by the wayside temporarily and we may for a short time, become someone we are not. I am no exception. Passengers wait in the airport lounge, the aircraft has a technical problem. The announcer tells them that the very best technician in the world is on his way to sort the aircraft and get them on their way. The technician arrives and cannot fix the problem. What do the passengers think about him in that moment? It's just human nature, not entitlement.
  8. Exactly. This is why I asked when we would be seeing the manual since the Hornet is due sometime in the next week or two. Apparently I am a bad person for asking.
  9. Maybe they are devoting all their energy into bringing Vulkan online? Seems silly spending a lot of time and energy fixing stuff with a low shelf life. True, the shimmers suck, esp in normandy, but in my view, devoting time to bringing along greater long term benefits sooner, seems like the logical move.
  10. Any ideas when this will be let loose? Be nice to read up on it while waiting for the bird.
  11. Seem to remember Heatblur talking about a carrier you can walk below decks on and a full AI flight deck crew. https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=lAr%2fMS09&id=256B121A75EABB66D9D51007F54C2F826712CC7F&thid=OIP.lAr_MS09TNa0SuRw3SlR1AHaD4&q=heatblur+deck.crew&simid=608020908707285168&selectedIndex=0&ajaxhist=0
  12. Straight after a very small update. Loading screen loads, music starts and screen freezes. EDIT. Deleting shader folders in saved games and allowing game to make new ones cured it.
  13. First time posting a mission. Hope it works. Designed for people new to the Huey, or maybe people like me who prefer the flying over the combat. Designed for immersion using Oculus Rift, it is a picturesque, but relatively undemanding mission where a firebase about 10 miles away is being overun by insurgent forces using sporadic hit and run attacks. Designed for immersion rather than pure combat based tasks, although if you are tardy, you will be punished. Tip.. You really have to hustle...Oh and to have any chance at all, your door gunners better be on the ball. You don't want your air assets tied up fighting men with AK47s. Bare bones. Scramble. locate firebase, pick up one downed helicopter crew and take them to a medical centre. Return to firebase and pick up the rest of the men and also take them to the medical centre before returning to your spot at base. I have sanitised it of anything from WW" asset pack ect. So just Huey, Caucasus 2.5. Low number of enemy units to keep it CPU friendly. More comprehensive mission briefing in mission. Should take about 45 - 50 minutes to complete and land back. Sochi Troop Extraction.miz
  14. Night lighting in general is being addressed. The towns have been improved, I guess the airports are on the list. As for the aircraft issues, this is down to individual modules. The cockpit dome light on the huey works fine, but the hog cockpit flood does not.
  15. Unfortunately this will not help those of us using Rift Headphone for audio and mirror through Voicemeeter for Buttkicker. I suppose I could go back to my old Sennheisers, but that is a very backward and inconvenient step when you alread have high quality headphones built in to the headset. To deliberately remove an entire aspect of the user experience seems just plain daft. I got £200 of kit, bought specifically for DCS laying idle... I really cannot imagine what they were thinking. I was enjoying the new cloud shading effects until I throttled up and started to roll and found no rumbles over the joints in the concrete. After enjoying the Buttkicker for 12 months or so, DCS seems dead without it.
  16. Same problem here. DCS will output sound to Oculus headphones but will not output to Voicemeeter input, despite being selected as default device and Oculus as default communications device. Tried everything. This renders my Buttkicker non operational. Whatever has been changed in the latest update needs changing back. I thought I had blown my Transducer....but found it works on everything else.
  17. No its still in pre purchase stage. maybe by end of May, along with the hornet.
  18. Thanks BigNewey. Did a clean install of GPU drivers and that did the trick.
  19. As above. Tried repair, deleted shaders, renamed saved games on 2.5. Crash in VR and on monitor. Anti virus off. I note that that abomination, windows update did its thing this AM. Log enc. dcs.log-20180421-154418.zip
  20. Yes this does happen, usually when a few ground units are operating. Typical scenario - extract 6 infantry from hot LZ. First couple jog ok, next three run in slow motion and last one makes the effort to move, then stops with port arms.
  21. 2.5 ob. Oculus Rift. Normandy and Caucasus, sun about 30 degrees above horizon or lower. Water effects on high. Water goes completely transparent. At first I thought the tide was out and I was looking at a mottled, muddy seabed. Then I dipped a bit low in the hog and splash. I took out the Huey to closely observe this new phenomenon. Radar alt showing 2ft asl, but texture looking about 10ft lower. Then I noticed the huey shadow, floating a good 10ft above terrain texture. Very odd. Something in 2.5 is screwing with water texture opacity. Sometimes its like very dark blue ink, other times it vanishes.
  22. Yes mura is a big problem at night. In VR it seems like my cockpit (most noticeable in Hog) is full of smoke. This is quite a new development. I now restrict my night flights to dawn and dusk now because of this.
  23. Christen Eagle optionally fitted with sidewinders, 2.75" rockets and a belly mounted AMRAAM. That should upset a few people on multiplayer. "Devastator Blasterbot FA18 was shot down by Bashful Unicorn Christen Eagle".
  24. Confirmed. No problem with robo recall, apollo 11 ect. It seems to be confined to in cockpit DCS. Need someone to eject after landing and shutting down to try replicate my findings and see if everyone is the same.......
