  1. Both look great, will be keeping an eye on both. That said its going to have to work hard to get me off Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO ;) J.
  2. Good news all round. TM have emailed me back, very quickly to say that I can order a replacement Pinky Switch, to be replaced by me rather than send it off. All I need do is send my details and Serial Number. Very good support I thought. J.
  3. Chhers MTF. hardly use pinky but a pain to lose it too so I will give them a shout. J.
  4. All, My pinky switch just waves about in the wind. I think its taken a knock maybe. Anyone know where I could get a replacement part? Thanks in advance, J.
  5. Will do. Thinking about a FEZ Panda II now too. Its much cheaper and very good too. Also .NET so very programmable. J.
  6. I really like these. Good work Hellfire. To be honest the reason I like them is though theyre A10C specific you could make a load of them for each sim and just swap them round based on what youre flying at the time. Also the fact that theyre self contained is very attractive to me. Great work and I may well try to copy some of that myself as its been what Ive been looking for (modular panels interchangeable depending on sim) all over the place. Rgds, Jase
  7. I do a little bit of Arduino development. As such I was buying some new gear - specifically an Arduino unit that's compatible with the Google at Home project and my new Samsung Google Nexus Phone. I came across this: http://www.coolcomponents.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23_81_136&products_id=820 It looks great. C# and the .NET development environment, comes with all sorts of input and output options and one assumes, as per Arduino, can communicate with a PC. It could be worth a look for those who are interested in this sort of stuff, I've already asked for one from She Who Must Be Obeyed (AKA The Fun Monitor) for Christmas. Jase. p.s. I have no affiliation to either the developers of FEZ or http://www.CoolComponents.co.uk in case any takes this to be spam, just in case :)
  8. 42" TV as front screen. Bloody hell Avlolga are you mad. lol. The main needs to be bigger than the helios screen. Plus how do I fit 42" in front of me. It'll take all the wall space!
  9. Thanks Guys. I have a spare 42" Pioneer HD TV but cant get it working comfortably at a decent resolution as its 4 or 5 years old and doesn't seem to support many decent resolutions above using the VGA Input.. I am looking at big screens too but I'm slightly concerned about eye strain and using a TV style monitor. Anyone got any good recommendations not above £500? J.
  10. Hi all, Having just , moved house and now having a proper converted garage as the office I thought I would try a 1st attempt at a pit. Even with the guidance here I still don't think I have the skills to build a proper A10c Pit. That said I want it to be multi-purpose and need it to be useful for stuff other than Flight Simming so Im very happy with it as it is for the moment. So here it is. Its in dire need of a bigger monitor (looking at 27" screens at the moment and will be getting one after Christmas, Then I can use the current Dell 22" as a 2nd monitor for gauges. Anyway enough of the wordage, onto the pics.
  11. Pilot named as Flt Lt Sean Cunningham. RIP Red 5. May you always have Tail Winds and Blue Skies. Lest we forget.
  12. Anyone who has ever climbed into a bang-seat (and I've climbed into a few) has the utmost respect for the equipment and is ultra careful as far as arming and dis-arming the seat. They aren't however faultless and there are plenty of stories involving ejections within limits that have resulted in injury, paralysis and worse death. The Mk10 in the Hawk is a zero/zero seat. As such even on dispersal ejections "should" be survivable. Should being the operative word. Going to the Tucano wont help much and would have been potentially worse. The Tucano Mk8 seat (unless its been replaced by the Mk10 since my days) is a Zero/70 seat. It requires 70 kts airspeed to function. Banging out on the dispersal would therefore be near suicidal in itself. The best thing to do here is not speculate, allow AAIB to do their job and wait to see what the cause was. From the pictures it looks like he or she (lets not forget there is a female Red in the team) was strapped in and that the detonator cord has gone, the canopy with it and the rail that the seat rides clear of the aircraft on is extended. That hints, but doesn't guarantee that it was a command eject from the front seat and that the back seat was probably un-occupied, at least un-armed. Beyond that no-one knows more other than those at the site at the time and the AAIB as far as the investigation goes so far. Anyone who knee-jerks into shutting the team down is an idiot. We all when we signed up knew the risks, yet we accepted them anyway. Granted most of us expected the ultimate sacrifice to come accompanied with a hail of bullets. No-one signed up to die in peacetime, but it happens. That doesn't belittle the loss to the team, the RAF or the wider aviation community. The fact that it happens so close to the weekend that we remember the fallen only makes it more poignant. The season has taken quite a hit this year both Military and in the Warbird communities and one assumes that it'll have reverberations around the community for some time. Lets all just hope that this is the last one for a long time and that any decisions made are sensible, full fact, informed ones. We have buried enough friends this year, lets hope this one is the last, even though we know it could and quite probably wont be. Lets not forget either the translation on the badge we all wore, its not "Per Ardua Ad Astra" for nothing. RIP. Lest we forget.
  13. Hi Jedi, stunning set-up. You say its based on Barnes-Akers (SP?), as such do you have permission to release a set up plans for it? Or give some guidance on dimensions and build? I only ask because I'm about to move house and will finally have the space to build something like it and have been very inspired by your work.
  14. I think the Boba Fett idea has been doing the rounds since he 1st appeared in The Empire Strikes Back. First it was a film, then it was going to be a TV series (around the same time as the Indiana Jones TV Series came out) and then it was going to be a cartoon-ish CGI one (like The Clone Wars). I'd love to see a Boba Fett movie come out, but please lord let someone who can write at it. George Lucas is a movie god, but he cant write dialogue for sh!t (as Harrison Ford famously said on the set of Star Wars).
  15. It was Gulf War 1. 1991. F15E dropped a GBU (cant remember which one) took out a helo (cant remember which on). Read William Smallwoods book (Strike Eagle: Flying the F15E in the Gulf), its in there. Try his Warthog Book too, that's very good and has been recommended reading here for a while.
  16. Succulus, Well what can I say about what I've played so far (3 weeks into what should be a 4 week Beta). 1. How much fresh content? - I don't know, its a beta the content is the content at the moment, the further content we will have to see I think. 2. How stable are the servers? - Very for the Beta, when they get overloaded on day 1 of release, lets see shall we. 3. How much exploration can you do? - Plenty, its an MMO. Open areas are on some planets, some planets (Nar Shaddaa and Coruscant) are city planets so its a cityscape style exploration, 4. How much Diversity? - Its an MMO, some unsurprising grind, some great combat and some pretty good PvP so far, Jedi on Sith fights look cool too, 5. Bugs, Bots and Cheaters? - I don't know. Its going to be as susceptible to that as any other MMO I'd wager. 6. Yes I think its good enough, to initially grab one as an MMO (especially if youre a Star Wars fan). Is it good enough for longevity? Hard to tell, I haven't stayed with or returned to many MMO's to be honest with the exception of Star Wars Galaxies, which was initially brilliant and EVE which is massively complex but can be very rewarding given some time. One thing I can say for it is that its excellently produced so far, voice acting alone is amazing given that every quest is voice acted, not a grind through the text. That alone will have it stand out immediately for some. It was enough in Age of Conan to draw plenty people in, well it was until you got out into the wider world (beyond the training island of Tortage) where everything reverted back to text quests. I haven't tried much space combat as yet, but it looks ok to me so far. Not sim level and not a patch on X-Wing or Tie Fighter, yet. maybe that will come with time. The space battles in Star Wars Galaxies weren't exactly great themselves. This is just my humble opinion, and Im not a game producer employee or marketing guy, and I'm sure it'll get praised and flamed as much as anything. I love the DCS series too but its not perfect and plenty people have plenty bad to say about it. Personally if someone created a MMO that included Sim level flight (like DCS), Sim level ground combat (like ArmA) and Sim level Command and Control in a persistent world then I'd be hooked straight away. I'm sure most of us here would. I don't see it coming soon though.
  17. Its Star Wars will be an initial draw for a lot of people. Why did I buy A10c when it was in Beta? Its DCS. Sometimes the provenance of a product is good enough for an initial purchase (I don't see Apple complaining that their products are near enough sold out before release based on that provenance). I think it will survive based on the fact that its a good MMO, yes it could do with some extra's and some wont like the cartoony graphics (cant say WoW is photo-realistic though can we). It has great voice acting, a good character/class based storyline and has that "Star Wars" feel to it too. I read the post E3 reviews and some were concerned about its longevity and actually didn't think it that good. I think some reviewers however are pre-disposed to expecting too much or some sort of high expectation. Anyone who played WoW at release and has played recently will tell you its 2 different products. I'm not coming at this from a newbie MMO player either, I have played EVE, AoC, STO, WoW, Warhammer, Star Wars Galaxies (my favourite until you could choose to be a Jedi, not be as I was one of those who worked their way there!) So I think I can say I'm also giving a relatively informed opinion. I agree that it must stand on its own 2 feet, but to say the Star Wars connection isn't a factor is folly IMHO.
  18. Im currently in on the Beta Test and can say its great. Yes its got some of the usual MMO grind, and the graphics are a bit cartoonish (I like that though) but its Star Wars :) Its quite good. Im only a level 22 Bounty Hunter at the moment but its been a cracking ride so far. Only on it till end of July though then I guess I'll be waiting for the proper full release like everyone else.
  19. Was a Skyraider and P51D Big beautiful Doll that hit each other (in fact it looks like the Raider hit the P51D but thats just semanics. Rob Davies MBE jumped from the P51D and landed battered and bruised and apparently had a sense of humour failure. Cant blame him, he owned the P51D after all. Goodbye about £2mil worth of warbird. It looks pretty wrecked, maybe even written off too given that it dived nose first into the deck after Rob bailed out. The Skyraider landed with a large section of the starboard wing tip missing (to about half way up the aileron). So a good result personnel wise, not so good P51D wise. A funny aside is that Rob used to own the Skyraider that hit him. Damn shame.
  20. Fixed with a full re-install.
  21. All, Since the 1.1.08 update I have a Warning: Missing textures on the loading screen just before you jump into the cockpit. I also have the same issue with all pop-ups (the press pause one) and on the menu bar when you got to an external view. Is this a known issue? The Warning screen has an Orange Background with sort of yellowish grid lines on it. Thanks, Jase.
  22. Just had a half hour to play around. 1st impressions are amazing. I'm loving Cockpit Shadows, the extra level if Immersion is palpable. I'm going to be back into A10C now for the 1st time since I discovered ROF a few months ago. FPS somehow seems better too even though I've put HDR on, everything is set at high and Cockpit shadows is on :) Thanks ED.
  23. Had it. Dumped it. Bought the Warthog. Haven't looked back. It was bloody awful in my opinion, but you spends your money and you takes your chances. Also like BigDog says don't expect much help from Logitech, in this case they were less worse than useless.
  24. Mine snapped a few weeks back. I dropped it for the umpteenth time. If cats always land on their feet, headsets with TIR always land on the TIR. Its the law. I'm not even sure a cast iron one would suffice to be honest given that my headsets (even when provided a hook or two) seem to end up on the floor. So, mines Super-glued at the 1st joint in a good position and I'm hoping that the clip that clips it to the headset doesn't go next (even though its come open without dropping quite a few times. J.
  25. Flim, I'd be interested. I think its a great piece of kit and not scared of doing the electronics... Yet! Do you have PCB designs too that could be used for the PCB for the switches? What would be the price? I guess its USD so do you know what the postage to the UK would be? Thanks in Advance, Jase.
