Upuaut's Bell-47G/H-13 Sioux for DCS World - Teaser
cosmicdoubloon replied to Eight Ball's topic in Screenshots and Videos
I'm having an issue with the mod, its all installed and I can set it to 'player' in the mission editor, but when I launch the mission I'm in the F2 view and can't get in the Helo using Alt+J. If I try Alt+J the helo all that happens is a blip in the audio (where I guess its trying to put me in the cockpit), then nothing. I have the huey installed and running, any ideas what's happening? -
the pallets that they were mounted on were monstrously heavy as well, the 6 pallets combined makes up the other 2000lbs of that 8000lbs figure.

Regarding the whole bullseye thing, I don't think it should be made too complicated (the whole chopping and changing location) unless the locations used are like you say easily identifiable areas such as the friendly FARPs or major cities like Tuapse. For me, it comes down to if you want to keep OC as a training/noob friendly server. Complete beginners probably won't be able to get their head around the system (although I'd wager they would stay in the safe zone anyway) so I think there should be an option for both the 'bullseye method' and the 'BRA from your own aircraft method'. Or maybe it uses the same methodology that DCS AWACS uses: for 'Picture' BRA is given from Bulls, for 'Bogey Dope' its from your own plane. In follow up to that last point, regarding the whole 'balance' idea to help protect strikers and legacy planes maybe they should get the more immediately useful 'BRA from your plane' from AWACS whilst modern fighters can only use the Bulls reference which increases their workload slightly and means they still have to work to find their target, instead of just pointing their nose in the direction AWACS called and turning the radar on. ooh now there's something we've not flown in for a while! I've already bought popcorn ready for the forum carnage of people complaining it isn't clear skies and no wind  also, now that the viggen has been given a tonne of fixes and is a useable module again will we see a return of the 'Open Fleet' Objective, or maybe a new 'Naval Convoy' objective? I was thinking this naval convoy could work in a similar manner to the DAC in terms of pathing and respawns and would consist of: 2 or 3 Molynia corvette 4 or 5 cargo ships 1 or 2 destroyers/frigate escort (Rezky for SA-8 OSA defence, Neustrashimy for SA-15 TOR defence, longer range and more powerful than the Rezky) This would be ideal for Viggens, SU-25Ts, the more ballsy A-10 pilots, and I'm sure we'd see a 6-ship WW2 plane attack from 50ft off the deck sneaking in from under the radar from the crazy veterans  but it would also serve an important feature: by making use of the vast black sea as playable area it helps to spread all the players out, which stops the current funnelling of fighters and strikers down the coast. Thoughts? As always keep up the good work Mirknir, it's nice to see we've not been forgotten, even as your real life work keeps you busy!

**Heatblur Development Update - Q1 2017**
cosmicdoubloon replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Great stuff cobra :) I've got a couple of questions regarding the fabled 'Jester' AI. First off how's it all coming along? I notice you've been quite hush hush about it but with the F-14 coming this year (hopefully!) I would guess lots of people are wondering whats the state of it. For multiplayer how will the AI work with the hop in- hop out nature of MP multicrew? For example how will it work with a RIO jumps in mid flight (or fight!), and likewise how will the AI deal with taking over from a human RIO that leaves mid flight? Keep up the good work, really looking forward to this module! Easily my most anticipated module of all the aircraft confirmed in development! -
Not sure what you mean, the F5 can access the AWACS: see below the frequency. you need T24, because T = 1.
-
If you mean simple radio the server is already running it. Check the mission brief for IP and frequencies :)

Fantastic images there Gee! I must get around to getting a viggen story up on here... That screenshot of Junglie and I at the tanker with the mirage in the background is one of my favorite DCS screenies ever, that's desktop background material right there! :D It's just worth noting that you can see that a lot of our payload is missing and this was a mid-mission top up, I think the experiment of moving the tankers closer to the conflict zone was a resounding success, it's not unusual to see a player or two at each of the tankers now instead of ejecting for more AMRAAMs, and quite often in the chat you see players requesting cover whilst they're refuelling and it seems to be promoting teamwork and communication between players  I even had an incident of unusual courtesy where two mirages stopped refuelling to let a VERY thirsty SU33 of mine grab just enough fuel to divert to a carrier :) The ReGenesis is looking fantastic so far Mirknir  Infiltrator AI eh? Looks like the first T800s are penetrating rebel lines ;) If you ever need volunteers for a private feature test and/or stress test of new skynet bits, you know where your crazy veterans are! :pilotfly: You can guarantee we would be scrambling over each other to get in and help out  Its going to be fantastic when this sees the light of day :) I guess the question now is what will we see first: Razbam's Harrier, ED's F18, Leatherneck's F14, or Mirknir's ReGenesis

Hi Mirknir, Just a heads up, now that the MiG-29A and S have had their model updates they now all have the default camo which is the Russian one, which is an issue for the blufor planes. However the Ukrainian MiG-29 has received new camos for both the A and the S and Kazakhstan now has livery for the MiG-29A and they're distinctly different from the Russian ones, so maybe on the next update the blufor MiGs could have their liveries changed so that they are different from Redfors? I also think the German ones have a german skin so they're fine :)

You heard it here first people! Time to make Open Conflict Great again. I'm going to build the best server, an amazing server, and I'll make the 104th pay for it! :megalol: In all seriousness I always try to donate monthly, and usually it's between £10-£20 (depending how poor I am that month :p ) but the amount is totally up to you :) I have the mantra of little and often and that way it keeps Mirknir's server money pot topped up for the long run :)
-
Yes you are absolutely correct, I couldn't ascertain which one of you it was so decided to shotgun instead but it was sloppy on my end, be assured that the bans have been dealt with  We're all glad you're enjoying Mirknir's server, its easily one of the best servers out there right now in my opinion! There's a reason its always packed ;) The issue with this is that Open Conflict is at heart a training server designed to be beginner friendly. This is why you cannot physically get to the opposite team's airfields because you will be destroyed by scripted flak so that people can practice in peace. You will receive a message when you enter this safe zone and a limited amount of time before being taken out by the flak to turn around. The issue is that this system is not so effective at stopping missiles which is where my original issue came from. The safe zones are for practice and are meant to be impenetrable for the other team, the conflict zone is for fighting, and the duel zones are for private dogfighting training. :pilotfly: Hope this clears things up :)

Haha I don't think that's 100% fair in this situation, the guys weren't trolling otherwise I would've deliberately kicked them. I thought they were being unsporting but they were fighting well so meant to put into spectator with a verbal warning not to encroach the safe zone but brain farted and didn't change the command from kick to spectate
-
One of you was shot down practically over the top of geleznik earlier in the sortie whilst engaging people who were on the blue side at the border. Plus the prowling on the border was unsporting but you were flying well which is why I only wanted to put you back at the airfield. all the bans are lifted so don't worry, and I apologise again! All of this said multiplayer disputes are not meant to be on this thread so before an admin steps in and start deleting posts If you'd like further clarification or questions just drop me a pm :)
-
Hi pistola/panthir That was me, The ban was done by mistake and the ban is already expired. Sorry about that! I meant to put you in spectator because you were (possibly inadvertently) shooting people down before they were in the conflict zone. I used the wrong command however, but it's all sorted now you have access to the server as normal
-
Oh don't you worry, I have things in the pipeline... ;)
-
Really excited for this plane :) I know after what happened with the MiG-23 this might be a sore subject but has the MiG-19 now been officially authorized by ED? I'm looking forward to this in a few years but would hate to see it shot down like the 23

Hey Mirknir, lots of people have been whining about the F-16s 'spamraaming' in the server and reddit/facebook and I was thinking maybe the loadout for them could be modified? Maybe instead of the current setup of 4x120C + 2xAIM-9 it could be changed to 2x120B, 2xAIM-7, 2xAIM-9. This winds in their capability a little bit without borking them and makes fighting them more interesting because you gotta ascertain what they've fired at you with so you can defend accordingly :)

None of the targets have any strategic priority to one side winning the mission or not because the mission is pretty sandboxy. That being said, some targets are more tactically important than others. Example being the main Tuapse base and the SAM bases. Taking these out reduce the defenses for the opposing team and make life easier for your pilots on the coast. However as you would expect these objectives are heavily defended and best left to the dedicated CAS aircraft, although long range GBU drops are useful if you have an A10 to lase :) The lighter objectives such as the convoy, oil rigs, listening posts and infantry incursions (watch out for the Stingers!) are better suited to bomb/rocket equipped Mirages but take on anything you like, nothing is impossible with enough grit ;)
-
It's only an autoban and lasts for a short time (like 10-15 minutes) at which point you can rejoin :) If one of the admins is on and they see what happened they can often undo the temporary ban too so if it's genuinely an accident don't worry :)
-
Hey Oldfox, welcome to the OC club :) Like cravgar said there's a OC teamspeak where lots of people hang out, info is on page 1 of this thread and also in the briefing in the mission. In terms of rules/habits, things are pretty lenient. There's lots of ground targets to attack and no overall objective outside of 'kill as much as you can before the reset!' which is great because, despite the best efforts of an entire squadron, its basically impossible to kill everything. For A-A there's AI CAP which patrol the conflict zone for you to engage, and of course any and all players that enter the conflict zone so go nuts :) The only 'rules' really are don't taxiway takeoff unless you're 110% clear theres no one who could potentially get in the way, try not to teamkill (the protected zones automatically destroy any friendly fire missiles launched to help this) and don't rearm/refuel on the runways so others can takeoff and land. Otherwise its just a general 'don't be a d*ck' and the rest is up to you :) If you're ever not sure about anything either pop a message on here or if you're in the server, look out for the WarDog squadron (players marked with a {WD} before their name). We're Mirknir's 'Crazy veterans' and are some of the most frequent and experienced flyers for the OC server and we are all happy to help. Most of us have the M2K so grab us if you need a hand. Some of us are also server admins so we can help with trolls etc :) Hope you enjoy the server, there's a reason it's considered one of the best DCS servers out there right now and nearly always full ;)

Hi guys, Now that all three variant of the Mig-29 have the been upgraded to the gorgeous model, has anything been said about when additional skins and liveries will come out for them? As ugly as the old model was, some of the russian/ukranian skins were rather pretty (especially the camo ones with the teeth on the nose) and it would be nice to be able to take out proper liveries instead of putting a Ukrainian mig-29 into a mission and it having the default new Russian skin. I believe the MiG-29G has all its skin variants which in my opinion seems odd as it is probably (unfortunately!) the least used MiG-29, having fewer weapon options than its russian counterparts and NATO style measurements on the HUD etc. Many thanks!

This is really great to hear  A lot of people who experience performance problems on the server is due simply to the sheer number of units and objects on the map. Being able to keep the map more empty by default and having objectives spawn on the fly will greatly increase performance across the board. I think this is a really cool idea. We were chatting about this type of concept in the teamspeak the other night and it would be a great type of mission which gives the non-attack helos and props/trainers a good purpose. Also ties in to my Recon idea from a few weeks ago if you can remember it, example: There's a convoy with multiple unarmed trucks in it. One contains a VIP/friendly POWs/Kittens and the others are decoys. There's no way to tell without either A. killing the defences and then landing and deploying troops (idea being the 'decoys' would have a combination of soldiers/RPGs/MANPADs inside, when someone lands to get the VIP kittens the enemy troops would come out the trucks and a secondary infantry fight could ensue. Proximity to the convoy would rule out the mega HE weapons, forcing BRRRRRRRT or other light weapons to be employed) OR B. doing recon on the convoy and establishing the VIP truck that way, allowing you to lay waste to the rest of the convoy without the need for a secondary fight. It could also allow for 'dynamic' balancing. If fighters are heavily stacked on one team then new SAM bases or additional AI CAP could be spawned to ensure you don't get total dominance from one side. These could then be despawned as required once the teams even out. As we come up with more ideas I'll make additional posts :) Okay so in terms of invisible aircraft my thoughts are as follows: Medic helicopters should ALWAYS be invisible to enemy awacs. They're choosing not to fight and it adds a layer of protection. Also (I don't know if this is something possible to code but brainstorming here) is there a way to detect when someone has locked an aircraft? I know Tacview knows when one player has locked another ready for missile launch so if that detection can be modelled using the coding then maybe a warning can be given to the locking plane when they lock a medic helo informing them it's a medic and there's repercussions to shooting him down (won't necessarily stop them but its another measure) Any plane outside the conflict zone regardless of type should be invisible. Exception being the a plane leaving the conflict zone still shows on awacs for maybe 2 minutes so that you can't abuse running in and out of the zone to engage people whilst being invisible. Also a plane firing on a legitimate target from outside the zone loses their invisibility. I'm not sure where I stand on the trainers and props. On one hand they have no RWR, no radar, poor/no defence against fighters (exception possibly for the hawk, has the AIM-9M which is the equal best short range a-a missile in the game, tied with the R73) and so should have a layer of protection. On the other they can be capable ground pounders and fighters if they get the jump on someone. Maybe instead of being invisible, there could be a priority system on the AWACS. Example, if there is a blue SU-27 and a blue L39 in the conflict zone and a red fighter calls for a bogey dope, the AWACS will not tell him about the L39 until the SU27 is removed from the zone, even if the L39 is closer. If there is just the L39 in the zone, then AWACS will report it. This way they are not invisible, but AWACS will guide fighters to the higher threat presented by opposing fighters over the trainers and props. I feel that flying nap of the earth should result in a reduced AWACS detection, but I'm not sure how that could be modelled... I like the idea of weaker planes having better AWACS. Planes like the Mig-21, F-5 and even early non-datalink Mig-29 were historically guided all the way to a target from takeoff by either AWACS or a GCI, therefore a similar function would be good in OC. I'm not sure how you'd implement this though... maybe using either chat commands or the F10 menu you could put AWACS into 'intercept mode' for those planes and it gives regular accurate updates on the nearest enemy's position, as well as specific info such as type of aircraft (maybe not super specific, perhaps the category - example: 'ASF' - F15/SU27, 'Fighter' - Mig-29/mirage, 'Light fighter' - Mig-21/F-5, 'attacker' - SU-25/A10/Viggen. I don't think helos, trainers and props should be applicable in this 'intercept mode'. Whereas I think normal AWACS would be request only (through radio menu or chat command) the intercept mode sends information every 1 minute/ 2 minutes etc automatically to guide the fighter in, the counter of this being that the closer he gets to the target the quicker the information becomes out of date so he has to start relying on his radar or eyes once close. The other way of doing the AWACS is to make the modern fighter version a weaker one, like an all seeing RWR. So instead of giving a BRA, it says ' 2 bandits within 20 miles, NE and E, Medium and High. 1 bandit within 10 miles, NE, Low' or something similar so that they know the general direction, altitude and distance of the enemy but will have to use their radars to do the heavy work. 'Low' could be 0-5000ft, 'Medium' could be 5001-15000ft, and 'High' 15001ft+. The AWACS should only give information on request using chat commands or the radio menu. Lots of text so sorry for that! but just floating ideas out there for others to disagree/modify/improve/comment on. I think these are all great ideas you have Mirknir, we just gotta figure out how to implement them all AND keep everything balanced.
-
Mi-8 has medic skins too, a few countries have search and rescue skins which are often bright colours or civilian markings
-
I think Mirknir has explained before, but because the update is the beta it creates more problems than it solves to update the server. When 1.5.6 becomes stable then OC will follow, and we can finally zip through the conflict zone in the viggen :)
-
I believe you can also set the GBU code using the kneeboard in the cockpit, but the code and all other settings (chaff/flare use, rocket ripple settings etc) must be set whilst the plane is totally powered down, no batteries or external power/air and once started up can't be changed until the next total shutdown
-
It used to be in the standard russian format, but the forum was inundated with requests to make it the US format. I wonder if it is possible to put 2 awacs on a team on different frequencies and tune into the one you want...
