On second thought we don't want to see you sexually assaulting a circular saw! Power tool always wins! Saw guide for the win...... -
Looking very nice Ragtop, if you want I can send you my monitor size, its about 2-3" narrower (50.8 - 76.2mm) than what's required to fit in between the MFD edges but perfect on the vertical front. Most monitors that are bigger are too tall to fit behind the panel. That said I'm going to re-do my front panel layout to make it work. If you do place a monitor behind the panel you might raise the landing gear/arming panels so you have room for switches and wires behind them. Thats what I plan for (have to make compromises somewhere!

How To - Assigning toggle switches to DCS using Helios.
HitchHikingFlatlander replied to Ragtop's topic in Home Cockpits
Well it just so happens that the framing stage is on hold at the moment for pit construction. And the electronics side of the build can't be started until I build the matrix anyways. Gadroc you are simply awesome for doing this! -
Ask some of my buddies I spent the first few years on my pit project just thinking and saying what I wanted to do, when I finally started I did something completely different! As for a removable panel, why not try something similar to what I did (naturally I'm biased lol), check it out here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=77961&page=4 My panel build is mostly on that page. I used double sided tape to fix the panel to the screen but get some velcro tape and you can mix and match a few different panels with ease. I had velcro tape why didn't I use that................. something to change!

Very cool of you Ragtop! I think Strix is saying he likes you! Gadroc - I might be able to answer this myself but does HELIOS work with boards such as the X-Keys 128 USB encoder? I have one of Cat_101's Matrix boards to go along with mine and to be honest hadn't thought about interfacing yet until now. That project is still waiting to get started on my workbench! -

Tip for using a saw, MK1 Eyeball always beats a laser and for straight cuts use a straight piece of wood or metal as a saw guide. To do that measure from the blade to outside edge of saw deck then clamp down your saw guide at that distance from where your cut mark is. If your going to creat holes in a front panel buy a cheap hole saw kit (that will fit your drill chuck) or get an adjustable hole saw (found online). In any case you a great stock of supplies to get started with and a great community with smart members (not me) to give you tips and point you in the right direction. Good luck, I always enjoy watching simpit builds and the differing approaches! EDIT/WARNING: If you do a great job building and build too quickly you're shooting yourself in the foot for later projects around the house. Wife will say if you built that so well/quick you can make me X or Y or Z........ LOL -
Anybody got A-10C cockpit dimensions?

Dimebugs drawings aren't good enough? I haven't seen anything with that detail around. Maybe you'll get lucky though. -
Dimebug Free stencil A-10C cocpkit project

Wow looks outstanding! Great job! Damn that pesky keyboard and the fact there is no where to put it! -
I know, I didn't have the KA-50 down pat, but at least I understood much of its operation. The A10 feels like an Ivy League school while the Shark is High School.

Very very nice! I wish I could make something look that good but I'm stuck with my pencil, drafting rulers and trusty jigsaw. Keep it up.

You didn't kick a kid out to "commandeer" a room did you now? LOL Looking good!

Looking great Ragtop. That seat looks like a good fit/choice. -
Nice work! You'll love the extra immersion gained when you set up HELIOS. Its a definite game changer.

Warthog Manuals In Kindle Format? (MOBI)
HitchHikingFlatlander replied to HitchHikingFlatlander's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
^Yes exactly. You're both right though I always assumed it was a Acrobat created file not a Word document so that would explain why the conversion tools screw up in areas. -
I think you mentioned you lived in So Cal some time ago. Be interested to see what the CNC shop says. I guess if it's local it would be a better solution to go with this shop you mention.
-
You say that as if I should be able to read your mind...... no offense. I'll ask my buddy the next time I see him. He's a riding friend of mine and I might not see him for a couple weeks or so, FYI. Been working out of town.

Warthog Manuals In Kindle Format? (MOBI)
HitchHikingFlatlander replied to HitchHikingFlatlander's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
^What a hacker! LOL Fleshpiston - I tried your converted file and its not bad. The only issue is that each page is seen as a an image within the Kindle reader. With images in the Kindle app you have to touch them to zoom in and out and then close the image out to move onto the next page. That said it's still similar to the PDF conversion I tried or using a PDF viewer on the phone. I'm going to look into what kind of software is needed to edit and create a .MOBI format doc for Kindle and then possibly make my own guides for the topics I'm most interested in. Additionally I'll keep trying PDF to .MOBI conversion programs but I imagine they all work the same way more or less. Thanks everyone for keeping up the help, ideas and suggestions! -
That panel looks good Strix nice work!

HitchHikingFlatlander replied to HitchHikingFlatlander's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yes sorry I could have been a little better with the thread title in explaining that........ Didn't mean to sound like an @ss in my last post either..... There are plenty of PDF readers for iphone but like I mention they all require a lot of zooming and side scrolling due to the small screen, my Ipad money was spent on the Warthog HOTAS. I'll give your conversion a try and let you know. Thanks for the effort, BTW which conversion tool did you use? -
LOL Yeah Ragtop the old B&D stuff is top notch while their new products are garbage more or less. I agree though you don't need a fancy set of tools to build this stuff. Just patience and the will to build!

I live south of Stockton and have a friend who works in a machine shop but doesn't own it and I'm not sure how large or small an operation it is. They did allow him to build his BMX bike on his own time/cost. What do you want built? That would be a good starting point in asking for help.
