Yeah the common customer in those Sim centers are usually regular folks who want to think they're getting the sim experience but actually just want a step above arcade flight shooters IMO.

Looks good! Like the use of custom built and off the shelf items. As for where things need to be, unless you're aiming for 100% accuracy set-up falls on what works for you not us.
Even on my old Infocus proj. with 1024x768 res I obtained a crystal clear picture. So long as you stay away from the cheap models (Walmart anyone?) you should be OK. Obviously you are ok but for those sitting on the fence......
Yeah, best results are always in a darkened room! I can run mine with some small light interference like ambient light from the blinds being closed or a low wattage table lamp. For bright days I have black out curtains!
