@Flappie though Ig go straight to the man who knows on this one... It appears im going to have consideraby more time and my hands over the next few days or weeks than I thought I had a 6 o'clock this morning..... Is there a way to download the stable then roll it back to 2.7.6 without 2.7.6 ever having been a part of it. I have lost my original install by stupidily moving it onto a on SSD during my pc upgrade which has now fubar'd iself (I may have helped it a little by standing on it). If there is I can go from the start on both OB and Stable, map by map, module by module perhaps then conbination of such perhaps

but, in truth, if you follow the tread through Its pretty clear there are very few who can a) do as requested and b) remain focussed on the actual issue without wandering off into lilly la la land. Myself included.

@Taz1004 , once again thank you. Necro-ing an old post but with the Hind now taking up my time these little tweaks make all the difference down low. No more shadow flicker in sync with the rota!!

In fairness, Limaro did as asked and Flappie has shoved in a report. I know flappie isnt a dev but I cant recall any thread where an ED dev joins in. I personally think its better that way as I want devs to dev not scroll though endless guff in a thread. BIGNEWY has taken part in a limited manner, largly to say say the thread was useless which, in terms of the original purpose it was at that stage.Personally, I never realy expect direct interaction and would be unsure what purpose it would serve. If the devs have an ask I assume BIGNEWY will apss it on in his role as a mod.

After 7 years I still dont get the control profiles
Boosterdog replied to Boosterdog's topic in New User Briefing Room
Thank you Dranconus! Its a litle clearer now. Looking at my config folder It appears that I now have two luas for everything after I re populated the controls fro the hind (all with different IDs). Would I be correct in thinking this is likely down to a new windows install renaming my devices IDs or is this a DCS thing? -
Olds and dumb I know but I dont understand the purpose of the diff.lua that is stored in my Inputuserprofiles folder and the luas stored in the input folder under each A/C. Moreover I have no idea where and to what I should save any conges that I make. If Im starting over I use the lua for each controller from the input folder but DCS directs me to the inputuserfiles folder as if the siles in there are the ones required. If I save a new change Ive been saving it in the IUP folder as a diff.lua. So...er.....help?

Wishlist for the next helicopter after AH64D
Boosterdog replied to dr.barber's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Maybe but without the core improvements the helo experience down low will remain 2nd rate at best, unplayable at worse and not something Id personally drop another £80 quid on right now. Id also change "liked to see" to more or less essential at this current time. -
Hello, Ive installed a new MSI tomahawk MB and Ryzen 5600X. The thing is (now)running stock save for the XMP profile for the RAM which is Gskill Trident Neo double ranked B dye whatnot certified to run on the MB. After a first frustrating night of devices randomly switching off and audio crackling and popping Ive upgraded to the bios that purportedly fixes both issues. Whilst the disconnecting devices seem more stable the audio remains shocking. After one of two minutes in game the crackles and pops begin with distorted audio and a constant buzz. I can reset the audio and it works fine for a period then does the same. Ive tried the headphones in another PC and all is fine. If I switch the audio to the TV via its HDMI, all is fine. It appears to be a USB thing (ive tried different ports) Im relucant to RMA at this point and can likely find alternative solutions is there remains an issue (and the devices stay connected) but Im wondering if anyone else had the same issue and if they have succesfully solved it. The PSU is a new 850 watt unit and all the hardware monitoring shows it working fine.

So- final verdict Overall there is very little difference for my £800. Fortunatley I have managed expectations and this build is a step towards a better GPU whilst donating a still decent rig for my lad to do his schoolwork on as well as play his optimised AAA games. That its come into this world at the time of a particularily cranky 2.7.7 OB hasnt helped and loosing 20 fps from the 2.7.6 Stable has possibly taken away from many instances where a little more CPU agility may have resulted in a better experience. Sadly I stupily updated the stable then deleted it. Anyhow - here are the take aways - the whole rig runs 20 degree cooler than my OC'd 6600K. By my calculation this means the last remaining polar bear will be able to stand on the last remaing sliver of ice for 0.0000000000006 seconds more than he dared hoped before. The cooler case helped my GPU temps and allowed me to retain a whole 2 extra fps in DCS as its boost clock stayed at 2050 over the previous average of around the 2000 mark. The more challenging missions do run a little smoother but are still far from great experiences. Something Im particualy annoyed with the latest OB for as I think they would have run much better with the new processor reducing the occasions lows had the fps reduction not have happened and more those lows and almost permanet feature. The best all core PBO curve I obtained was an offset of -20 and, given I've now deveolped an intermitted glitch with the perviously solid warthog throttle disconnecting I feel it may be lower than that. The change does provide a noticable uplift in other sims. A few extra frames are apparent but the overall increase in smoothness in heavy scenes where the old rig struggled a little is satisfying to observe. The glowing ram is oddly entertaining but, on balance not woth £800 on its own The general operation of windows doesnt feel any more agile than on my previous "optimised" (hacked) rig. So............should I have bought a 2080ti or 3070 instead? For me Im happy I did the CPU first even if its all a bit "jam tomorrow" as it awaits a suitable GPU. It gives me time to settle into getting it running well and fault find the glitching peripherals before that glorious day. But probably yes, a GPU upgrade, abeit another £300 more after adding the PSU and case, would have likely yeilded more instant gratification and a good few more, much needed frames per second.

Sorry Sir. I am a stupid arse at times. You didnt deserve such a rude response and your point is obviously valid. Its been that way since I was strugling to get LOMAC past 25 pfs whilst maxing out Pacific Fighters - I somehow fugured modern jets neded more computing power.. I really hope ED understand the position some of us are in. I think they do. The current market just isnt ameinable to a power it out and hope for the best solution. In other news, and given some of the comments about the issue possibly being outside of DCS, Ive spent the day watching the 390GB of a fresh full fat Beta install download on my new puta. Different processor from a different house (5600X), a brand new unmolested Win10 pro install on a brand new 980pro M2 being pushed along with a brand new RM850X PSU. Save for 4 FPS, 2 of which I know have come from the cooler running 1080 in its new case there is no difference. Nada. Zilch. I didnt expect a boost given Im still tied to the 1080 but the issue of dropped fps has now affected me on two different rigs which I suppose goes some way to providing an alibi to windows, external software now absent on the new rig and the CPU/chipset. I regret ugrading then deleting the 2.7.6 Stable as this was running a full 15- 20 fps ahead of the OB and it would have been nice to see if the new CPU would have helped to reduce the syrian and pacific stutters given the fps would have been comfortably above the 60 in all my test scenarios. Ah well.

Yes it would. The thread was started by a non VR player, has many posts reporting loss from non VR players and the issue affects non VR players. Maybe take of your headset long enough to read through it before posting such garbage.
-
There is loss in 2D if you meant specifically 2D players. But its us lower spec vsync dependant potato pushers who seem to be suffering most obviously. Again those with bigger specs may be oblivious to any marginal loss that fails to impact on their specific settings.

What type of chair for rudder pedals?
Boosterdog replied to MonsterZero's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I dont have the luxury of a spare room to sim so mine has to be portable and packaway. For 5 years an old camping chair from Aldi (£6) did surprisingly well. Stupidly I threw it out in one of my "never simming again phases". Now Ive upgraded to a deluxe camping chair with lower arms for ease of access to the throttle but it looked smaller in the picture and I feel like Ronnie Corbert. Never had an issue with the £6 one for comfort, access of stability (even when whamming the crosswinds). -
I experience this is ony when I clutz the collective or get the module into an overmax situation of my own making. Power and Torque prediction, weights and conditions.

The existence of a probelm for some has been demonstrated and reproduced by a DCS ground crew member. ED states however that the problem cannot be pinpointed. This irregularity in gaining and loosing fp has also been expereince by those of us who have continued to tried different things which supports EDs position. So whilst there is evidence, there is no solution at this time, hence some of us are continuing (perhaps pointlessly) to find a smoking gun. You are right ED should fix this. Im hopefully they will if they can get to the bottom of it but im equally doubtful it will fully return to the 2.7.6 performance. Again - its was meant in jest as a title to sum up the the loss we are all at as to the reason behindthe loss and the random nature of it.

Id stick to it. A quick look ariound the net doesnt bring anything especially encouraging. From what I can glean 256Mb is the driver default, reducing it may have limited benefits for faster cpus and increasing may have limited benefits for slower cpus....in theory....dependent upon the drives.....and if its a tuesday ....etc. . It goes back to the enable/disable cache debate I think which proved a rather pointless rabbit hole for me. It seems to be more about load time stutter too. Not overall fps. Either way, the more I really look at NPC the more I feel leaving the majority of it alone works best. For me Disable Gamma correction for less AA on fences, Prefer max power, Allow LOD bias, Texure filtering AA optimisation off, Texture filter quality Performance, Texure filtering optimisation On ,everything else to set to use application setting. Any of the setting are "niths" of an improvment, if at all. The loss we an collectivley experienceing is well over that. This is no crtisism to anyone setting it however. I just think its very system dependent and more of a fine polish than a grindstone. .

Older driver perhaps. i have it on the latest ones
-
I can confirm the same from my experience albeit not as scientifically. Be it shadows, view distances, textures. All goes as expected, with progressive reductions in performance as the quality increases. Where is this shader cache? Ill give it a bash (once the new install of DCS has downloaded....so 2027 or thereabouts with my connection)

Yup sorry for the confusion - "I got some frames (not all) back after creating a new saved games file and ....oh....theyve suddenly gone again for no reason " would probably be better.

Post a little update for any who may follow: In the end I went over and above what I had intended and added a case and new Corsair RM850X to the build. Build Experience The Lancool 2015 case is a big step up from my 2004 Lanboy and looks nice, has decent features, good airflow and prduces a clean build. Downsides are few but it is a little rough in places (coarse screws, very mirnor sharp punch throughs on the perforated psu block cover but its minor. The MSI Z570 tomahawk board seems ok although I did notice more flex in this board that my old Asus Z170 pro gaming so id be reculant at doing too much prodding and poking once its installed in the case. The Artic Esports Due cooler is vague having come from the coolermaster 212 Evo. Firstly it doesnt cover the whole chip (apparently it just doesnt) which made me nervous and applying the MX5 unsatisfactorally messy on first attempt. Secondly there is really no clear instruction on how tight "tight" is. Various sources state thumb tight whilst the artic site shows the use of a screw driver. In the end, and having the measuring tools avaiilable I worked out that tightening the screws fully up the the stops on the risers supplied was probably the best and effectively guarded agains crushing the chip whilst providing an even "squish" of the paste. The fitting of the fans, for a noob, was agains at first a little vague but a few mins trial and error sorted it. The Gskill RAM worked. And it changes colour a lot. Its RAM, bloody expensive RAM, but still RAM (Yawn). It does its XMP advertised without issue as I would expect from a B die product. Corsair RM850X - all the reviews say it good and I guess it is. Booting I had hoped to keep the old PC running as a back up until I was sure the new one worked however the Tomahawk came with a preinstalled chip from AWD-IT (for a good bundle price) and although the bios is all up to date the minor drawback was that the board went VGA error (regardless of CMOS resets)and wouldnt boot into bios until I installed the GTX1080. Once installed however it booted fine. As per usual the internet was sodding useless at helping me with the issue so Im just happy it was a simple fix. I can only assume it was reslutant from the tests run prior to shipping but this IS an MSI board so who knows. Windows install - I hate windows. It ignores my requests to be left the F alone like my son does and treats me like one of those vacuous internet nomark bloggers with its assumptions about what I want... Optimisation - I looked through various guides but, frankly, all had something that made me go "hmmm" be it turning off the firewall, enabling game mode and GPU scheduling or or running large batch files with uncertain consequences. So I kept it to the minimum for now. Power, drivers and Afteburner. Getting back to DCS - I has prepared, really I had. And i'd rehearsed. But it all went to rat shit and in the end, with the exception of some saved controller files, I am reinstalling everything from scratch to ensure its all as fresh as possible (latest TIR drivers.......from 2005...lazy c....s). Thankfully what I had saved did save me some time in working out what went where when it came to relocating profiles for the TIR and TARGET software although an idiotic and bad tempered "delete" managed to lose every password I had carefully curated. Anyhow - thats the experience so far which has been selfishly typed up in order to occupy myself whilst the 232GB OB update occurs (@7.1mb/s). Ill post the experience with DCS later (I dont expect miracles - the build is really only laying the foundations for a new GPU)

THIS^^ should actually now be the title for this thread!

Youve mde changes to reduce the impact of a performance drop. Thats not getting it back to normal. Its just compesating.
