BECAUSE RUNWAYS ARE FOR BEAUTY QUEENS! BLACKSHARKDEN squadron is proud to offer to the DCS community a new public server exclusively dedicated to rotary wings operations: HELO WORLD Our developers have been capitalizing on our 7 years of operations to build what we believe will be the best DCS helicopter experience that no other public servers we tested so far can meet (yes, that's bold but we really think we can do it). The HELO WORLD public server is offering you the BLACKSHARKDEN experience less the milsim aspects or the need to become a member. It does stick though to its three founding principles: a FIXED WING FREE environment, NO Players Vs Players and encouraging COOPERATIVE missions. We value the roles of ALL the DCS helicopters and give them meaningful tasks that will influence the outcome of the battle. Exclusive and improved scripts unlock all the potential for rotary wings operations in DCS. In this server, you will be able to perform the following tasks: Close air support (Troops in contact) Sector control (capture areas while fighting against vastly improved AI) FARP activation (Mi-8, UH-1H and UH-60L are heroes too. Provide the required logistics to support the ongoing battle) Oil Rig assault Maritime security and VBSS (Visit, Board, Search, Seizure) Anti submarine warfare (on selected helicopter types only) Counter Insurgency Operations (COIN) (work in progress) At BLACKSHARKDEN, we also made sure to address some of the other servers pain points: a clear and responsive documentation about how to use the different server's functionalities, a dedicated space on our Discord server for support and meeting our pilots, a pretty solid pro hosted server in Canada giving great response times whether you are in US or EU, a real time heatmap access to see who is flying and where without the need to connect to the server. The HELO WORLD Public server can be found on the DCS server list at "Helo World by [BSD] BlackSharkDen" and runs on the Syria Map. Auto kick and auto ban are enabled for team killing (make sure you understand the server rules available on our Discord Server). All DCS helicopters are available plus the UH-60L Mod (not mandatory to join the server). Although we took away some of the milsim aspects we are applying to our missions at BLACKSHARKDEN, it doesn't mean that HELO WORLD is suitable for complete beginners in RW operations. There are some good challenges. As such, we cannot encourage you enough to join our BSD Discord Server and get all the info and links you will need to fully enjoy this public server. MAKE SURE TO JOIN OUR DISCORD SERVER TO GET THE INFO AND SUPPORT TO FLY ON THIS SERVER!

If you are a DCS Chopper Pilot looking for a place to develop and share your flying and combat skills, you should definitively check out Black Shark Den, the largest rotary wing ONLY squadron for DCS in the North America and European regions. We are offering the most structured training for helicopters, based on the US Army ATM (Aircrew Training Manuals) and are actually proud of having several active helicopter pilots both military and civilian in our instructors rank who provided their best insights. We have also talented mission designers, modders and scripters who are providing most of what is badly missing in DCS for helicopters operations to our missions. Each region (EU and US) is structured in platoons with specific training and roles: - A Utility Platoon (UH or lift) with UH-1H and Mi-8 - An Attack Platoon (AH) with Ka-50, Mi-24 and Ah-64 - A Observation platoon (OH or scout) with SA-342 (EU only), AH-64 and (soon) OH-58D Our missions are designed with helicopters operations first. We are not flying fixed wing. None. (unless we are having events with other friendly fixed wing squadrons :)). If you are still not convinced, come and say hi on our BSD Discord channel. You are always welcome.

This little package contains a Bell Longranger L3 type helicopter model with some liveries. This is only AI and has only some basic animations, PBR textures and no damage model or weapons. It also has some model and texture fixes to be made, but it takes forever and so I thought I might as well release it before waiting another 6 months...I made this for myself to gain/improve some skills in 3D modelling, texturing and lua scripting, and because I like to get more civil Helicopter OPs into DCS. Tested with DCS 2.7.8. UPDATES: current version: 0.1 - liveries pack provided by @Urbi (not available anymore) - liveries pack provided by @crazyeddie (separate link see "ADDONS") DOWNLOAD: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7yt7rbqgol495ei/Bell_206-L3 AI.zip?dl=0 INSTALL: Unzip the package. 1. Copy the content of "Liveries" into your "Saved Games/DCS/Liveries" folder. 2. Copy the content of "tech" into your "Saved Games/DCS/Mods/tech" folder The package includes a basic livery template. ADDONS: - @crazyeddie provides a beautiful new liveries package, download here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/n82g1x6485p3hjg/crazyeddies_Bell 206 Liveries.zip?dl=0 CREDITS: This mod was inspired through the work from Upuat, EightBall, Nibbylot and Damientrix. I used some snippets of lua-scripts from each of these authors and modified them for this project, as I did prior to my HH-60 mod. The 3D model of the helicopter was downloaded from GrabCad and it is allowed to be used for royalty free usage and distribution. The author of the original CAD model is Mr. John Fall, and I am grateful he allows this model to be used for free and appreciate his beautiful CAD work. I made a lot of changes to the original model though, and had to import it into my 3D environment with a number of tedious conversions. Finally, thanks to Urbi and Crazyeddie who reworked textures and provided additional (and enhanced) liveries. Anyway, I hope you like it. Have CIVIL fun!

Updated March 19, 2022: What is RotorOps? RotorOps is a mission generator and gameplay script for DCS: World. At its heart is a game type called Conflict, which requires helicopter operations to win battles on the ground. This is a fun territory capture game that promotes focus on individual 'conflict zones'. At the core of the RotorOps script are AI enhancements that provide a dynamic ground war by causing automatic conflicts between ground forces and a progression of the front line. Key Features: Unique helicopter-focused gameplay Mission Generator windows app Over 100 built-in voiceovers (or for use in mission customization via trigger actions). Splash Damage 2 script for more realistic explosions that no longer require direct hits. CTLD troop and logistics transport automatically integrated and enhanced with sound effects. Play the role of the attacking or defending force. Single-player and multiplayer slot creation. Demo Missions RotorOps: Aleppo Under Siege https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3320079/ Rota Landing (Mr. Nobody) https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3320186/ RotorOps: Conflict Conflict is a game type in which attacking forces must clear Conflict Zones of defending ground forces. Once a zone is cleared, the next zone is activated and ground vehicles will move to the next Conflict Zone automatically. Dynamic Roles A RotorOps conflict mission has opportunities for a variety of roles and tasks. There's no need to artificially select these roles, as the mission is fully dynamic. Transport Logistics: CTLD logistics crates are available from your starting base or staging zone. The logistics area has several logistics containers, that can themselves be moved to a new area via DCS inbuilt sling loading. If you can get one of these containers to a new area safely, it becomes a CTLD logistics zone for spawning crates to build ground units and air defenses. CAS: The attacking side starts with ground units that move progressively through enemy conflict zones, seeking out enemy units within each zone. Protecting these ground forces is essential for establishing forward bases for rearming, troop pickup, and winning the battle Troop Transport: Never before has infantry been so important in DCS! Pick up troops from the staging area or a cleared conflict zone and deliver them to the active conflict zone. They will move through the zone until no enemies remain (or until they are killed). Very useful for flushing out enemy infantry and vehicles in densely forested or urban areas. JTAC units can mark important targets with smoke and laser. Ground Attack: Destroy enemy vehicles and infantry to ensure the survival of our own ground units. Clearing conflict zones of enemy units is essential for establishing forward bases for rearming and refueling. All enemy ground units must be destroyed to win the battle! Fixed-wing CAP/CAS: Enemy attack helicopters and planes are optional in the generator. Add slots in the mission generator for fixed-wing flights to provide cover for our helicopters and ground units. For a unique challenge, try Defense mode in a fixed-wing ground attack role...enemies are nearly always in motion. Mission Generator and Customization The mission generator works by automatically placing units and trigger actions into a map template with defined airports and trigger zones. Missions produced by the generator are easy to modify and understand. For example, units can be moved, and player flights can be added without issue. Use the result of the mission generator for quick plays, or build on it for something epic. Trigger actions are set up, labeled, and commented so that you can understand how things work and add your own actions. An additional library of voiceover files is provided for your own use. Easily add your own templates for friendly/enemy ground units directly in the DCS mission editor. Create your own scenarios for the RotorOps mission generator, using the DCS mission editor. Developers We welcome contributors to this new project! Please get in touch on Discord with new ideas or pickup/create an issue in this repo. I saw a post come up in my google searches but it is private and does not let me view. Apologies if this has been asked already but: I haven't changed a single thing in DCS, this problem has simply appeared from one day to the next. Trying to fly my Mi8 today and the trim no longer exists! You hear it click, you can even see the button press on the virtual joystick, but the cyclic simply does not trim. The pedals do trim but the stick returns to centre In the 'CTRL+ENTER axis screen' I have tried changing to 'instant trim' in the specials menu but to no avail. Am I being a bit stupid here?

Hello, I'm not sure if this is a bug or if it's theoretically possible, but it happens often enough for me to question it. I tried searching for previous threads regarding this, but couldn't find something with the exact issues either. Please feel free to move/close/point this thread to an existing one if one does exist. From a theoretical standpoint, helicopter rotor discs have 3 modes of flight: 1: Normal flight (air travels down through the rotor disc) 2: Autorotation (air travels up through the rotor disc) 3: Vortex ring state (air travels down through the disc, and is then recycled around the rotor tips and back through the top towards the bottom) I'm a huge believe in practicing full-down autorotations, thus I use DCS as a good platform to play around with. I am a real pilot (only ~100 hours however), so I'm not an industry veteran, and I'm well open for suggestions, corrections, and others' experiences. The issue at hand essentially seems to be the ability to enter VRS while the engine is idle or off, and the aircraft is already in a state of autorotation. To replicate this, set up at around 2000ft AGL, drop the engine to idle, and enter a direct vertical descent autorotation. Once in a stable auto at 0 knots airspeed, and 1500-2500FPM descent, firmly pull the collective to max pitch. What I would expect to happen is my descent rate being reduced, until the rotor RPM decays enough. What happens instead is a rapid increase in descent rate (Unexpected), along with the rotor bleeding off RPM(Expected). As I understand it and as the industry has been teaching, the following factors must be present to enter vortex ring state: 1: Descent rate of greater than 300FPM (This factor varies widely based on aircraft, rotor loading, etc. The FAA just uses 300FPM as a safe number) 2: Airspeed less than Effective Translational Lift 3: Between 20-100% engine power (essentially some power that's keeping the rotor spinning rather than RPM decaying) I have two ideas as to what could possibly be happening: 1: The firm pull on the collective is enough for the aircraft to enter VRS briefly as if it were still under power 2: The flight model doesn't have this simulated properly I'm at about a 50/50 split between my two theories, and I'm open to what others may have to say. I've done autos in an R44 at ~20 knots with no flare, and the rotor RPM decays immediately and arrests the descent. I'm able to replicate this in DCS as well, and I'm 99% sure it can be attributed with there being enough airspeed to be in ETL. So the only effect I'm questioning at this point is the ability to enter VRS at 0 airspeed. I know the DCS Huey flight model has been particularly prone to VRS in the past as well, based on some other forum posts I was reading. Again, feel free to question, critique, correct, or share your experiences, I've been meaning to ask this for a while and finally had some time to do it.

Which of these helicopters would you like to be considered as the next module to be developed? I've put in the list modules with only attack capacity or poor transport capacity. I'm curious to know what you think. Or maybe you feel more the need of a beautiful transport helicopter?

Does anyone see the potential in cargo/heavy-lift helicopters? I’ve heard that ED is planning to/is currently making a cargo plane. So, I figured, with cargo-running being a somewhat boring way of flying, cargo helicopters would be much more interesting. While you’re still hauling cargo, you also have the interesting and fun challenge of wrangling a powerful helicopter. Of course, cargo planes can carry significantly heavier loads and they do have a place in DCS, with the maps being massive. However, for smaller loads, cargo helicopters would be significantly more interesting and incentivizing to fly. For example, a CH-54 Tarhe or CH-53E Super Stallion could never dream of carrying as much weight as merely a C-130, but in a sim, they would be vastly more interesting. You need to slow to a hover, skillfully hold the hover, and hook up to whatever heavy load you’re lifting. Also, you can do it wherever you want! I think that in addition to the C-130 (if it is indeed becoming a module), we should also get a heavy-lift helicopter for smaller, but more interesting missions. Here’s a list of super cool and very fitting aircraft for the job: CH53E Super Stallion CH47 Chinook CH54 Tarhe (“Sky Crane”) Mi-6 (downside: large, 5-6 man crew) Mi-26 (downside: large, 5-6 man crew) Helicopters that are interesting and worthy, but not good as the NEXT helicopter: UH-60 AH-1 The Tarhe, Chinook, and Stallion are all great options, and I’d argue better options than the Mil duo. With a small crew while still packing huge lifting muscles, they’d be ideal for the job! Especially the Tarhe with it’s 10,000lbs Daisy Cutter LZ-clearing bomb and huge muscles! @NineLine Sorry to bother you, buuuut…
