Operation Desert Thunder Campaign for the JF-17 Thunder
JonathanRL replied to JonathanRL's topic in JF-17 Thunder
If you chose to put it under the JF-17 Tab, you will not need to replace it after every update. It may however create errors for users of the Steam version as their software considers it to be unlicensed DLC. But I agree it looks better. I am kinda hopeful that the Campaign manager will be updated so Campaigns will be sorted by Aircraft even if they are third party. -
Operation Desert Thunder The year is 2017. Tensions have been brewing between the Republic of Hormuz and the Free State of Bastak for several years regarding natural gas deposits found off the island of Qesm. So far, any attempt by the international community to mediate the dispute has been rebuffed by both parties who claim the Island as their own; Hormuz because it is within their borders and Bastak due to the many of Bastak heritage who live on the Island. Sponsored by the Russian Federation and People's Republic of China, Kuban Security has been enlisted to bolster the air force of Hormuz with their JF-17 Thunders. It is hoped that this move will stabilize the situation and calm the ambitions of both the Free State of Bastak and the local insurrection by the Prophets Faithful. You are THUNDER LEAD, a veteran flight leader in Kuban Security. You and your colleagues are now the Hormuz only modern air force assets and the nations last defence against the forces that seek to disrupt peace and balance in the region. Key Features: Fly the JF-17 Thunder over the Persian Gulf as part of the PMC Kuban Security and their deployment to boost the air force of the Russian Federation ally of Hormuz. Perform ten missions such as combat air patrol, close air support, low level attack and deployment of precision munitions against a large variety of targets. Aid your allies against both a local insurgency and the unknown agenda of the western-alligned state of Bastak and their F-16C Vipers! Fly together with a friend in the additional Co-Op Campaign! As far as I can see, not implemented in the live open beta version. So a 2.7 feature I suppose?
-
Sorry for getting to this one late but I did take a look at it. The waypoints themselves are fine; however the use of of Time on Target makes the Viggens fly very slow. Coupled with the Runway Attack seemingly not working as intended, they will follow this period of slow speed with sharp manoeuvrers. This may cause them to end up in the water tough during the five times I ran it, I could not reproduce the bug. Since I expect 2.7 to cause further headaches, I have scheduled a check through as well as toggling the clouds for the Campaign when it is released. Will include a fix then.

Lots of Suitable roads. My Squadron has been using road bases in the past two campaigns, both on PG and Caucasus. Either way, I do want the option to just spawn the aircraft on the ground next to a road. Esp for the Viggen.
-
Perfect thing to be added in 2.7 honestly.
-
I know. This is why it is a request for the feature to be added into the mission editor.

After using the "Spawn Illumination Bomb" script in a mission yesterday, I must say I would love to have a similar script for other ordinance - primarily air to ground for obvious reasons. This would allow more flexibility in missions where we want the specific effects of a weapon or simulate coastal battery fire for example. Another good example would be if you would like to have a specific effect rather than just explosion. Create Bomb in Zone: ALT: (Altitude the bomb will be spawned) ZONE: (Target Zone) Create Missile in Zone: ALT: (Altitude the missile will be spawned) LAUNCH ZONE: (From where the missile is launched. Missile range is still taken into account) ZONE: (Target Zone) Missile Target Tracking: (Missile will track ground targets in the target zone if clicked)

What AI Only Aircraft would you like to see for DCS World?

What AI Only Aircraft would you like to see for DCS World?
JonathanRL replied to JonathanRL's topic in DCS Core Wish List
This is my bad. I had intended to add a limit to only name three aircraft but I realised I forgot to add that part of the post... -
So that people do not just copy-and-paste the entire library of the worlds combat aircraft, what aircraft would you like to see in DCS in the "AI Only" category for mission creators to use in their creations? My list is fairly simple: 1: Tu 16 Badger Since we have a carrier and a Tomcat, not having the Badger would be strange, esp not as it can be used in so many ways - as a level bomber, as a recon plane, as a ASM Carrier and so on. 2: Hawker Hunter One of the worlds most common aircraft and a good fit for almost any environment. Would make good opposition for the MIG 19; especially in the role of a fighter bomber. 3: MiG 17F Fresco Also a very common plane that would fit everywhere from Nevada to Syria to the Gulf. While the MiG 15 can fill in for it, the 17 would be a good fit for the 1950s to 1970s battlespace.

I would agree with SorelRos tactics. * Keep your flight in a loose formation. * When the fighters break to engage your flight, order your flight to engage them. * Go for the bombers yourself. Your main purpose here is to make yourself bait for the MiGs. * Since the F-5s can take the MiGs head on, the MiGs will lose one or two airplanes in that fight. At least one other will turn to engage you. Keep your fuel tanks and just push your speed to max and the MiGs will be hard pressed to catch up. The rest of the F-5s will clean them up. The only thing that can sabotage this tactic is that sometimes, a pair of SU 24s break alongside the MIGs, drawing fire. I can only assume this is a bug.

I had the same problem. In this case, it means "go low and evade" and to be honest, it is contrary to how I usually evade SAMs - the best way usually being trying to drain energy. During first play through, I wondered if I was really expected to engage a bunch of SAMs with only guns and travel pods. Also, do not end Mission 1 until you stand completely still with wheels chocked on Krymsk. Learned that one the hard way.

So far, so good

I made "The Scandinavian Front 2" mod. Its still up on CombatAce but discontinued
-
As a Campaign creator, I would love to use this as a tool in my Campaigns.

As the author of the PDFs in question, they where more an exercise for me in terms of marketing writing than anything else. That is why there exist unrealistic time estimates. Last time I made a project close to that size, it took me around five years and had a team at my back to help. Since Northstar mentions SF2 he may very well be aware of it. That said, I would absolutely love more AI Units in the Cold War timeframe if we cannot get the modules themselves and the arsenal of Soviet Bombers are on the top of my wishlist.

Any word on price?

I am trying to set down a road base for my Co-Op Campaign, yet the ground power does not seem to work for any aircraft but my own. I can use ground power and air just fine but whenever another player try it, they get "out of supply". The Road Base is static objects + invisible farp. What am I missing so that my squadmates can also use ground power at the base? EDIT: Okey, so lesson learned. DO NOT put down Vehicles as Static Objects. They have to be vehicles.

As a Campaign Creator, I vote "yes" on this.
