DCS World Upgrade/Patch Dissappointment For more than 10 years now (beginning with "Flanker") I have been a die hard user of the lockon & DCS flight sim product line. So much so that over the years I have purchased multiple copies of their programmes as an act of "support" for the product. So you might understand just how snubbed and rejected ... no Dis-Regarded I feel when I read that DCS plan for patching/upgrading their current customers to the "DCS World format" is absolutely their LAST PRIORITY. Treating their core customer base with such disdain is both callus and insulting. The change of format to the "DCS World" model is a truely massive step change in the business model for DCS simulators, providing them with the opportunity to totally overtake the otherwise lack luster alternatives in flight simulation. If this move works well, DCS can march boldly into a very bright future, securly holding the No1 position as producer of mainstream flight sims for the not so general public. I am saddened that DCS have acted in a way that suggests that they as a company have little regard for the generally very loyal customers that have in no small way contributed to their successfull rise to prominance. PS please forgive the poor grammer and spelling but at this moment I Am ONE SEETHING ANGRY OGRE.

Go Rock ... Go CONGRATULATIONS Virtual Horsmen:pilotfly: Your determined efforts are truly appreciated by all of us that have flown in DCS for any length of time, even the most "Die Hard" combat jockey loves the formation display stuff so keep at it and know that there are lots of us cheering you guys on.... Salute. PS; our guys are loving the P51D beta.... and have already dabbled with tight formation flights.... check out these pics http://dl.dropbox.com/u/72346042/Shrek-Sqn%20P51Beta.rar

A Very enjoyable read, making me drool with anticipation. I look foreward to having MORE.

HAVE the DEVELOPERS ABANDONED their FORUM? So then if your not a geek, and not up to speed with the latest fashion in forum etiquet What must a TROG like me do to get a service from the ppl that have sold me this simulator? Its as stable as an unset jelly, crashing all over the place and produces graphic bugs that defy fixing & still no one seems to be even slightly concerned. I dont even see acknowledgement from DEVS that there are bugs, let alone that they might just be working on them.

Thanks for your note PeterP, your right, Neanderthals like me find all this "geeky" stuff a total nightmare..... I will go spend several hours assembling requested information and try to "stay sane". Until then I would point out that this glytch/bug appears in both ATI & NVidea cards as BIGNEWY uses ATI and I use NVidea & we have both had this appear. Also it is equally visible in both Black Shark2 & DCS Warthog. In experimentation I have noticed that; 1;-It is only effecting cloud that is at a range of approx 2-4k (using cloud shadow as a guide) and never those at longer or shorter ranges. 2;-It can be seen from any direction but seems visible only when viewed within 15-20deg angle below .BIGNEWY has simply removed all clouds from his missions rather than put up with the crap. I however remain hopefull :-)) S! MY Gear! Has anyone seen this graphic effect before? This has so far eluded my inexpert attempts to fix..... Grateful thanks in advance to any one who would recognise the cause of this bug. Ogre Strange Cloud Track.rar

I take your point and would not dissagree that there are many aircraft that could be added to the distingushed list in the DCS/ED/Flying Legends stable, how about the Harrier or .... well the list IS long. The point here is to take this as a POSITIVE thing every aircraft added to the flight line is going to be a GEM and the P51 addition will harm nothing so why not welcome this legendry warbird.
-
Just plain OUTSTANDING! I hope the build and publication go well, I am looking forward to flying that one.
-
NEXT DCS AIRCRAFT AV8b HARRIER I have stumbled across a "POLL" somewhere here but cant find it again (hate forums chaos)in the listing. The intersting thing to me is that a very unique and capable aircraft was not included in that list so I did not post a preference. I believe that the AV8b Harrier "jump Jet" would fill a particular need for a FARP capable V-TOL aircraft from the Western Nations. While offering a very uniquely capable aircraft .... The WORLDS ONLY production V/STOL fixed wing combat aircraft. I invite your comment and observations. If you would like to see a taste of what you might expect from such an aircraft in the DCS sim then download the VIDEO DEMO Here http://www.serik.dk/grizzly/_Probe_+HD720p.zip

Out of Curiousity -- Chaffs Anyone?
OGREMAN replied to Luigi Gorgonzola's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The KA50 has NO means of knowing you are under fire from a radar guided weapon..... there is NO POINT in carrying CHAFF ..... Stick with flares... at least they can be deployed in a useful way. -
Same problem but I use a different funcction Dito with Titos malfunction, except that on my keybinds I have the scroll function for external camera movements that are now not available.

I have the same issue and I regularly fly BS1 now BS2 for 3or more hours a day.... fact is the trimmer in BS2 behaves much less predictably and often radicaly different from the identicle setting in BS1. In all likelyhood its not your techneque or hardware its the upgrade version has totally different behaviour.
-
BlackShark2 what happened to the trim & AutoHover? Absolutely love Black Shark2 .... BUT! (why must there always be a BUT?) 1)The trimmer reaction is now severely adverse.... I normally use in BS1 the "auto centre" setting in options as off and when attempting to trim for a particular airspeed BS2 with the same setting selected now reacts by an extreme dive at the ground that is outside of the range of the stick (un correctable) resulting in certain crash..... 2)The auto hover is now frequently overwhelmed by even minor winds making it a liability... the result is that I now have to "augment" the auto hover with manual added correction or simply use manual hovering. Attempting to re-trim while in auto hover to correct for slight drift will compound the drift correction error. To summarise ... while its great that the key bindings/settings allow BS2 to work as BS1 there is definately something wrong with the trim and hover functions.

With all the hustle and bustle that comes with a new development in our treasured combat flight sim ...... perhaps a word of thanks and a moment to say what we love about these products. I absolutely love the dynamic shading. THANK YOU I absolutely love the great responses in AI THANK YOU Totally WoW'ed by the dynamic weather, the beautiful soundscape and enhanced lighting effects. Last but not least .... I absolutely love the modeling and realistic physics detail that this simulation has acheaved. So to all the ED-DCS development team and helpers (paid and unpaid) I offer my sincere and unreserved thanks for a JOB WELL DONE. Salute! PS! This Junior Member has been flying this genre's simulations since "FLANKER" & hold that they have been and remain the best there is in combat flight simulation.

Even with the great leap forward in ME & AI functions there seems to be an absence of deployable objects that allow mission builders to apply the "human scale" static objects that can greatly add immersion to ground level scenes that may be central to say a ground attack mission. Examples of this would be Ground Crew People in a selection of appropriate poses... marshaling-lifting & carrying. Irregular stand of trees that can be placed to soften the built environment, perhaps 1 of natural forrest and 1 of urban garden type. Mixed Groups of civillians (all gender all ages) walking(for the city) or sitting/kneeling poses for such things as hostage situations. These are just a shortlist of the most obvious examples that could be made to greatly improve the "look" of any central scene in a mission. I for one, would happily trade the strange collection of "SHEDS" to replace them with more useful objects such as those above. In the wider area of deployable mission objects, I would give blood to have a single helipad and a double helipad option for a FARP. such an option would dramaticly increase to more realistic options the deployment options for "operational helipads".

Thanks nomdeplume for your help, I did the re-start thing without success and then opted to re-install the driver software for TrackIR. That seems to have cured the issue..... what bothers me is I dont see how the driver software could have become so corrupted so quickly. Scary, I just hope that this is not a taste of things to come ie constant renewal of the driver software.

Black Shark 2 Controller & TrackIR Problem Immediately after BS2 install my TrackIR (bound to DCS A10C profile) functioned flawlessly. then after a re-start, the BS2 refused to respond to TrakIR. Investigation revealed that the TrackIR was working perfectly but somehow the BS controller dialog had lost all reference to the TrackIR bindings, not even a TrackIR headed collumb. "TOTAL BLANK". Q! How do I restore the dialog for TrackIR in BS2 controller interface? Just in case this problem is related to an install issue, BS2 installed into "C:\FLIGHT SIM\DCS Black Shark 2\bin\Launcher.exe" TrackIR installed to Default C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\\\ Rig is:Win7 home premium +svc pack1 64bit, CPU Intel Core i7-2600K @3.4 x 3.4GHz Internal Drive Seagate 1Tb 1700 Drive RAM 8.00 GB HOTAS Saitek X52 Pro Post Script: SOLUTION FOUND! I have Re-Installed Drivers for the TrackIR and the issue has resolved; Noted that the TrackIR allocates the "Black Shark" default and NOT DCS A10c as the default binding for DCS BS2. Thank you to if you offered help.

Not entirely TRUE pilotasso ..... take a looK at OUTERRA Terrain generating engine spectacularly good global terrain that due to the fact that it runs almost entirely in the graphics card leaves the CPU free to run SIM Flight etc.

AB...SO...LUTELY, BLOODY SPECTACULAR IDEA The prospect of finally having a wide range of aircraft types to fly and do battle in the same environment is MORE THAN WELCOME. It would mark a (long overdue) move to the conditions that gave LOCK ON its ledgendry player appeal, longevity and status. I have long held the view that disconnected study sims (no matter how good) effectively break up the combat flight sim community into ever smaller groups, simply not a good idea in an already specialised small market. Flight sim Nirvana ..... ONE ENVIRONMENT ... wide range of "plug in" aircraft types. I hope this very tentative suggestion comes to fruition.

Yeee Haa.... A New beast of a machine is on the way and I cant wait to run the Black Shark 2 on it..... be still my beating heart

My Simulator Heaven! Outerra terrain and DCS Aircraft & game modeling.... drool. IMHO the worst aspect of flight sims today is that we all turn a blind eye to those ridiculus terrain graphics, its like we have simply gone into denial about how truly bad/un-natural they look, and here we all are seemingly afraid to admit that we want better. The argument that producing a new sim is somehow throwing away all that previous development is silly, I can still buy Flanker,Flaming Clffs,LOMAC, MSF and use them, they did not dissapear just because a new sim became available.
-
Re Read the comment .... it was an expression of hope, not an accusation.
-
Nice Sobek, thanks for that .... very open minded and enlightened view. I do hope that level of consideration is not the norm in flight sim developer circles .... or we are all doomed to "fly in aspic" never see a truely natural looking flight environment.

The NEW ULTIMATE SIM ENVIRONMENT Hello Gents, For all those flight simmers who get frustrated by the "pc plastic" world graphics that is common in todays generation of flight sims, I would like to draw your attention to what I belief is the next big thing in not only flight sim, but all serious simulations. Procedural graphics engines are where its at for the future flight sims. With procedural graphics you can say goodbye to the world of POP UP everything.... no more ... entire landscapes poping into existance or objects changing their appearance with dramatic suddeness. With procedural graphic generation like that of Outerra, if an object is large enough to be represented (ie one pixel) it is always visible and the only thing that would fade out its detail is naturally applied atmospheric light scattering, mist or other weather conditions. And if that is not enough to get flight simmers thumping the table for change, how about these tasty trinkets of information... The graphics engine in Outerra is GPU driven, leaving the CPU free to manage the modeling of the SIMULATION DETAILS and not the terrain. The terrrain represented and avilable encompases the whole of planet earth and its detailed down to as little as 20cm resolution. (no more limited land areas to cramp your game, you can choose to fly anywhere). The graphic detail and quality of the visuals is without comparrison in any simulator. The true texture and detail of rock & mountain surfaces are faithfully reproduce in true 3D instead of those wallpaper images draped, warped & streched over obvious geometric meshes. The Outerra terrain generating engine is now within a very few months of being available to Developers and casual users, check it out here http://outerra.com/ "There must be a down side" I hear you say, well yes there is a problem. The code and even the basic structure of todays flight sims is not directly compatible with a proceedural terrain engine like Outerra. Existing flight sims would have to be re-written in new code and that means a lot of work. But wait a minute! when FSX,MSFS,DCS and all the others put out their "latest offering" its often not backward compatible anyway and they are constantly re arranging the terrain graphics in an attempt to improve that aspect of their simulation. So why would they not take the plunge and commit to leaving the present generation of flight sims in their wake? It seems to me that the "down side" is that a developer would have to do some rewrite work ..... GO check out the link and its graphics, then I will be interested to hear if you think that such a commitment would be worth it.
